Defense Sparkles?  (Wabash website headline) is a little strong.

I think "Augie solid in first start, defense bends but doesn't break in Wabash victory" is more accurate.

We did do a fantastic job of keeping Millikin out of the endzone, but we can't give up 400 + yards passing yards in a game and expect to play into December.  I am sure we'll get things figured out and continue to improve.  Millikin had some big talented receivers and their Qb's were getting it to them, but still we ring 400 on people they don't do it on us  ;)

Adi is a beast.  Kraft and Deig seemed to be everywhere as well.

Augie did a great job and will continue to gain more confidence.

I don't suspect #4 was on the sidelines was he?

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

I didn't see Dustin on the sideline Saturday...not unexpected given that he had surgery the day before.  Here's hoping he can make the trip this coming weekend.

He and the team might be better served by his staying home and spending the time in rehab - if he is aspiring to return to play this season. A day trip from Crawfordsville to Delaware and return, including warmups and the game, must be at least a 12-17 hour proposition, depending on whether one leaves and returns with the team or leaves later and returns earlier separate from the team and depending how one feeds himself. Of course, the team may make the trip an overnighter - in which case the time away from rehab would be much greater should he accompany the team.

I just think of schools like Texas, Alabama, USC, Notre Dame, Michigan, or Nebraska. They don't tinker with their unis. When was the last time any of those schools changed their unis?

Wabash has made some change just about every year in the last 3 years. I wish we'd just go back to that classic look and stick with it.

Strongly agreed on all counts.  The new unis are awful.  The words on the pants are a disaster.  The red/red unis are really awful.

I also think most of the fan gear in the bookstore is pretty awful, although it seems to be slightly better this fall than in seasons past.  Maybe the campus needs a fashion consultant?  :)

Interesting note:
Wittenberg - Winningest Football Program in NCAA D3 History
633 All-Time Victories - .657 All-Time Winning Percentage - 114 Seasons

Saint John's - Winningest Football Program All-Time in D3
537 All-Time Victories - .704 All-Time Winning Percentage - 96 Seasons

* I referenced both media guides for this information..........

What gets me is, how do the Johnnies average almost 8,000 a game in Central Minnesota? Enrollement is 1886 - Clemens Stadium is 7482...By comparison, Selby is 9100 capacity with 1945 students and with a larger metro area....

Minneapolis / St. Paul / St. Cloud is 3.5 million. Ranked #13.

Columbus / Marion / Chillicothe is 1.9 million. Ranked #24.

Per the Combined Statistical Areas of the US Census.

Keep in mind too that Minnesota only has one DI school. That leaves a lot of football fans to support DII and DIII programs. I had an opportunity to go to SJU to watch Marietta play their first game. I didn't enjoy the Pios getting killed but I did enjoy the atmosphere there. It had a DI feel to it. I'm glad Jr. and I got to experience it. The fans were very hospitable and humble.

My guess is your info on Wittenburg's # of wins is to low... seeing how they won their 600th game in the late 90's!

aueagle

smedindy: I think your numbers are skewed-just a tad....while your "Per Combined Statistical" may be accurate...the true scenario would put Collegeville/St Cloud at 62,623 (59,107 & 3,516...2000 Census Data) vs Delaware/Columbus at 763,203 (30,000 & 733,203....2006 Data)....I've thrown out Marion, Chillicothe & Minneapolis-Saint Paul because, geographically, they just don't equate. For instance, Minn-St. Paul is 77 miles away. Added,  Median Income in Minnesota is $52,024...in St. Cloud (the closest  city) is a mere $39,293. I just don't think the average "Viking" is going to drive over an hour from St. Cloud (close) or the Twin Cities (over an hour)  to grab a dog and coke to watch the Johnnies (though, it appears some do). Your right in that Minn-St Paul sits at 3.5 million (2006 Data). Maybe the "Viking" sees Johnnie football as the Minor League Sports Value Package that he can't get with the Golden Gophers or Purple People Eaters, I don't know. smed...Do your cheat on your taxes? I do...I mean, I massage the numbers....
kcreds: I've got the '07 Witt media guide in my office...inside front is where I got the info....
Tonight: I crunch Bash/Bishop data....This is THE week....GO BISHOPS

......I mean short. not kcreds....by the way....over 7.764 at the Pios/Johnnie game..check out the game phots at the Johnnie sports site...very nice....

smedindy

Aueagle - Many do. It's reasonable for them to go there. What's 77 miles?

It's much like Wabash - the Johnnies alums are usually in Minnesota and think nothing of spending a Saturday in Collegeville.

From the 2007 NCAA Record Book (which features a nice photo of Dustin Huff on the cover)...

Witt has 663 victories entering this season.  664 through Saturday's games.

Wabash is #7 on the all time wins list with 577 through Saturday's games.

Delaware is fringe Columbus...competing with the Buckeyes for attention on Saturday afternoons is a tall order.  I've been to several games out in Ohio and you'll find as much Buckeye gear at an OWU/Witt/Denison game as you will home team gear.  The exception being Wooster, where where Scot fans always come strong with home team gear.  While St. Johns isn't too far from Minneapolis, football isn't quite the religion out there that it is in Ohio and the Gophers stink.  If I've got the option of watching the Gophers get beat by Florida Atlantic in an atmosphere-less, sterile dome or I can go watch a perennially successful team with a legendary coach play outside in great weather and in a great setting...the choice is pretty easy really.

I think the issue with the Gophers is the Metrodome, really. Minnesotans like to be outside. Football seems to be second to hockey around these parts (unless the Twins are doing well). They have decent coverage of D-3 in the papers in Minnesota. (Not perfect, decent...)

They had 3,300 at the St. Thomas / Gustavus game Saturday. Not a bad crowd, really.

I thought the Gophers were building an on-campus/outside stadium....Gagliardi is a true Hall Of Famer....ya gotta respect his way....No Pads...No Hitting (at practice)...No Cuts...and don't call me Coach, just John please... at SJU

I actually almost went to Gustavus Adolphus.  A physics professor there tracked me down on my visit...turns out he was a Wabash alum and wanted to chat with me about my recent visit to Wabash.  That pretty much sealed the deal.  GA is a good school and a nice campus...if you can stand the brutal cold winter.   :)
