If not, then I think the fans should be able to drink booze in the stands to take the edge off.... ;D

The best part of hanging out with the Pep Band guys (I have NO musical talent) was sneaking the booze into Hollett by hiding it inside of the sousaphone.

What is this "Pep Band" you are referring to?  I seem to vaguely recall this concept from years past.

I can't speak for anything regarding the Pep Band that happened after the 1998 season.  ;)

Nor I after '92, but I can tell you their absence was noticeable at the Franklin game.

Not like it was a big game or anything.

May just have to pull out the ole sax and fly solo at Homecoming.

Yeah...the Pep Band got an F- at the Franklin game.  I can't for the life of me figure out why Wabash should be sans band at any non fall break home game.  Here's hoping the student body can find 4-5 guys with instruments to at least give it a go on Saturday.

roadtrip

This is directed at wally_wabash because of his gourmet blogs of the past..but I would be glad if anyone can help....I'm heading to Cville for homecoming and I'm still looking for a "steakhouse" in the area. I sort of remember somebody saying that there was a steakhouse down a couple of exits west on I74 but I'm not sure...I've dined at several places in Cville in the last year (can't remember a bad one) but still can't find that big ol artery cloggin side of beef. I have a son and a couple of his frat brothers who need nourishment....

The Beef House. Almost in Illinois, but it's good stuff. It's the Indiana 63 Exit.

What's the status of the New Ross Steakhouse?  Used to be fairly 'rustic' but a good value.

wally_wabash

Yeah, the Beef House in Covington is righteous.  It's a ways down the road, but if you're looking to get completely silly on a chunk of beef, that's the place to do it.  There are also some good steak joints up in Lafayette, but I would recommend steering clear of the greater Lafayette area this weekend...it gets insane here when Notre Dame comes to town.  As far as in-town dining goes, I'd have to defer to some of our posters who have resided in C'ville more recently than I have.  I think are more places to go now than there were when I was in school.  I'll send up a flare to some of my people and see what comes back with a positive recommendation.

Roadtrip,

I started to reply but I "QUIT."   ;D  Ouch, just messing with you.

A few places off the path for you:  Try Country Affair (sp?) - take 32W (about 5-6 miles) past Yountsville, on your left.  You can also hit the New Ross Steakhouse - take 136 E (15-20 minute drive) towards Brownsburg.  It is a little pub/tavern but good steaks.  If you want to go a bit further...you could load up at The Beef House in Covington (50 min drive on 74 W) or hit Boulder Creek Dining Co. (35 min drive on 74 E) in Brownsburg.  All would be good grub just depends on how far you want to drive and what you are looking for.

Just an observation... Pynenburg could be defensive player of the week pretty much every week. He is very, very good.  Just like Sutton could have been offensive POW every week when he played.  Mr. Sutton once told a bunch of us after a game in the fall of 2006 when he was helping coach at Wooster while finishing up his degree that going to Wooster would probably always be "the time of my life." D3 is a good way to go.

Nike,

Thanks for posting that about Adi, I agree and had thought that last night when looking at the NCAC stats and reading the POW award winners.  He is off the charts with 47 tackles in 3 games.  When its all said and done, he could finish his career the all time tackle guy (400+ tackles), the most tackles for loss, and I think he may have a shot at sacks (FirstDown might know  ;)).  Like Sutton was, Adi is one of those guys you can watch every single play, and you wouldn't be disappointed.  He may be a better person then player.  I am not sure if he still does but he used to run kickoffs back in practice vs. the KO team for extra conditioning.

For in town C-ville dining I would rather have a grill and a choice cut over Applebee's and the Creekside Lodge

The weekly update on the Woo/Witt game is upbeat in the intro and points out some positives in the "this and that" at the bottom.......

Players like Sutton and Adi always make me wonder if it is more the players or coaches that make teams great. As good as Sutton was, Wooster only won 1 NCAC championship in his three years there, in 2004. Would Wooster be a contender this year if they had Adi and a healthy Huff? Don't know.
I will never forget when  Wooster played Carthage at Papp that year in the d3 playoffs. I am pretty sure that we held Carthage to something like 60 yards of total offense, did not allow them an offensive touchdown, but still lost 14-7 on a kick off return and an interception returned for a touchdown. Schaffer had a concussion early in the game, but was allowed to continue to play. He got beat up the whole game and understandably had a terrible game. And Sutton never really got lose for much of anything.  My point is would better coaching have won that game for Wooster? Because Carthage played Mt. Union the following week and gave them a heck of a battle before losing.  And the running back that Wooster had held to maybe 25 yards rushing the week before in the loss to Carthage had over 150 yards against Mt. Union. And my guys and I kept wondering what Sutton might have done against Mt. Union and why weren't we playing the Mt.?
I am sure many of the Wooster folks remember that game. And as I finish rambling on, the thing I remember most is what jerks the Carthage fans were. Not all, but a lot of them. Drunk and cursing and taunting the whole game, leaning over the rail that is directly behind the Wooster team bench, yelling at Wooster players. And then they won! They were awful. Wished we had separate stands that day like Selby Field.

I don't know how many of the seven Wooster turnovers you can put on Schmitz...there does reach a point where the players have to execute or at the very least protect the ball.  You'll be hard pressed to win any game when you turn the ball over seven times no matter how stellar the defense plays.  That game featured two pretty fierce defenses (Carthage was +30 on turnover margin in 2004...+30!!!) and the offenses were going to be hard pressed to put many points on the board.

CC always says big games are always decided by special teams and turnovers...few games prove that point like this one.
