I never donate to my alma mater's general fund. Anything I have to give goes to athletics (or perhaps the campus radio station, if it ever asked).

QuoteThe school only accepts donations to the general fund. Talk about a competitive disadvantage in recruiting and in trying to run a top-flight athletic department. COW stands to lose big-time if this policy remains.

You know what, I did a study using VSE reports and there is very little money earmarked for Athletics in the NCAC. Most all of the money goes to day to day operations or the endowment, which is the preferred way to support the school, IMHO.

More unrestricted donations + more endowment dollars for financial aid and buildings = more opportunities to grow the athletics budget.

I will always give solely to annual fund or scholarships. The two large gifts for the Allen Athletics Center were actually earmarked as "undesignated" at the request of the donor.

SmedIndy, This concept sounds a lot like Reaganomics of the 1980's, Trickle Down, aka VooDoo Economics :-\..

Interesting note from the Weekly Wabash press release.

It seems that Augie has a family member that is a frosh free safety for Earlham.  Both from the same Indiana town, probably know each other with a last name like that. Don't ya think?

Lets hope that Augie doesn't throw a pick to Augie. ;D

I'm going to guess that comparing Smed to Reagan isn't going to please him.  :D

A VSE (Voluntary Support of Education) is a survey sent out annually to colleges and universities by the Council for Aid to Education. It shows the amount of financial gifts given to schools and what they might be earmarked for. It gives some more details, but that's it in a nutshell.

Smedindy,
What is a VSE report?

You didn't get the memo about the new VSE reports?

Sorry, ScotLass. The picture appears quite small on my screen.  ???

Li'L Giant -  Do you have a library of images at the ready?

Your "safety dance" pic from this weekend was the best.

Lil Giant, I would never purposely offend a Wabash poster  ;D

However if it is true that Wooster is using Reaganomics as the basis for budget allocations, perhaps the AD can get the athletics Dept. reclassified as "Star Wars Research". Maybe a more covert approach to raising money might be in order? Where is Oliver North when you really need him?? There have to be some Contras left somewhere! ;) 8)

Nike, chilly,Scotlass, Woo CAN get by Witt if they've done their homework. O-line at center and right is pretty weak. Had punt, FG and EP blocked there already. Tight coverage on receivers nixes passing plan. Stop tailback. They only go to FB as last resort. Coaches have a potentially very good team but seem to have done a 180 over past several years plans. They are using  alot of young guys to get by now and build experience for next couple years. I've seen most practices, most of summer camp, all of last years JV games, of course varsity games. They seem to have benched players who saw alot of time last year and showed a lot of promise as varsity contributors. Any body gets hurt and they are in for a hum since they do very little subbing. Rumors of many defections for next year.
