He was pretty good at tipping passes too, as I recall! :)

Funk has to be #1 in my book - then Wiesehan. Of course, I'm an old guy.

Wiesehan wore #1 as well.

WOO - In this weeks updates on Woo's homepage, it mentions the fantastic finishes that have happened at Papp stadium over the last few years. My favorite is the Allegheny game of last year. Any others that stand out?

Swearingen caught a 43-yard touchdown on a Hail Mary pass as time expired, giving Wooster a thrilling 27-21 victory over Allegheny. The win keeps the Fighting Scots in the hunt for the NCAC title. Swearingen had also given Wooster a 14-13 lead on a touchdown reception early in the third quarter and ended up with a team-high 69 receiving yards.

I'd also like to mention a couple of names from a long way back...three to be specific...TonyAltivilla was awesome. Scott Boone...and Ed Jones...three awesome receivers from yesteryear. They don't have the numbers that current recievers do as Wabash ran the ball much more and much more effectively back then. But...they were studs in their day.

GREAT Wabash BAR TRIVIA...Traditional jersey #1 has gone from Casper to Bronaugh to Clifton to Summers to Walker to Russell.  Who's next?

Interesting question and one that just reminded me of how many receivers graduate off this team this year.

...back to the Wabash/Witt rivalry...just think how many of Fincham's losses are to CC since 2002.  4 losses since 2002...('02 x 2, '03, and '05) amounting to 16.7% of the losses on his overall record.  Witt has not won at Hollett since CC's arrival.  Current tally...Chris Creighton 4, Joe Fincham 4.  CC has only won once in Springfield.  So 3 (27.3%) of CC's Wabash losses (13) are to Witt.  Those numbers are significant on both records.  Statistical information provided by 19

Who would win in Ping Pong?

WAF78...#7 Tony Altavilla...to this day the "slowest, best WR to ever play at Wabash."  I still tell him that too, not sure if he broke 5.0 in the 40 but a stud receiver.  Attended Wabash from NJ with never before seeing the campus prior to reporting for camp.  Scott Boone...hmm, may have some stories there  ;D...my college baseball coach...finished career with 11 letters in 3 sports, only sport he didn't letter in was football since he didn't play as a Frosh (clearing throat sound...Coach Petty).  Once held IN high school state record for stolen bases with something crazy like 54 swipes.

Anyone past when I graduated is 'recent' in my eyes!

Just to sort of wrap things up on the scheduling issue, this is an explanation I received from a member of the Wittenberg staff:

"Go on the NCAC web site and check out the football schedules that are posted there through 2009. We schedule our Homecoming and Family Weekends around the schedule that the NCAC comes up with, not the other way around. Wittenberg's athletic department, just like Wabash and every other NCAC school, has nothing to do with the conference football schedule. Fall break is an academic occurrence and our athletic department cannot control when it happens or why..."

Getting ready for a great game on Saturday - go Tigers!

Battle of the One & Fours at Selby...Big Red played Allegheny tough (14-0 loss)....
Could be a good game....the loser looks at the basement of the NCAC...the winner gets the middle of the pack.....Kick-off at 2pm...
My hats off to the Yeoman...2-0 in conference play...sure they beat-up the Puppies, but, they beat the Big Red by 7.....a measuring stick for the OWU game.
Go Bishops

I noticed that the lead article on the home page was about homecoming at McMurry...which was a great article. I do believe that if Mr. McMillan would like to see a totally unique homecoming of a completely different nature...he ought to come to a Wabash homecoming. Just as having the name "Indians" is not PC...Wabash's homecoming is probably the most NOT PC thing I've seen in a long time. Go Wabash.

Just curious: Does anyone refer to Wabash guys as Cavemen anymore? Maybe it's a moniker that today's Wabash guys wouldn't like to have?

AU -

I would have to think that the Bishops have the edge in this one.  Do you think Boff improved his position as #1 guy last Saturday?  I was surprised  to see that Fisher seemed to struggled as much as he did.  Both throwing and running?

Bash Folks -   Has anyone heard if the Little Giants will suit up in their all red (scarlet) battle gear this weekend?

This gets my vote as the understatement of the year.

I don't know...I hope not.  I'm not a fan of the monochrome red-on-red look.  Give me the red jerseys, white pants, and red socks.

Bash,
Yeah...I'm with Wally on that...I hope they go with the traditional red and white...like they did at homecoming. The "red suit" look is not one I prefer..but I'm sure someone has to justify getting those red game pants...lol.

Homecoming is just a "different take" on time-honored tradition - and thoroughly appreciated for creativity, and cynical context.

Do wish the LGs would return to the white britches - the "reds" are reminescent of death row candidates in the English penal system.   Moniker is "what it is."  ;)

Wally,

thats what I thought when my alma mater went to all blue at home...we looked like smurfs out there.  But after some tinkering the colors don't look bad now....but still, where did the movement come from for teams to be similar colored pants/jerseys??
