Thanx Wally for the heads-up on the webcast.  Buthow did they get the "reels" out of order?  Now they're showing the middle of 3Q again after showing before the start.

Yeah, that was annoying.  It's about back to where the game jumped into the way back machine though.  The repeat of the third quarter gave me a chance to toss in the whites, so it wasn't a total loss.   :)

I just caught the last 5 minutes of the Wabash - Witt game rebroadcast.  One word: fantastic!

Witt #21 McKinley made a great defensive play to meet Sobecki at the same time as the handoff to force the fumble.  Of course, his exuberance also resulted in the earlier personal foul penalty on the onside kick.  (Hey WittFan, that's not a complaint . . . the penalty was called, I happen to agree that it was a justified call.  I can't comment on the other plays, since I haven't seen them.)

A lot of comment has been made about the pass to Vanover, but it also looked like the long pass to #1 Williams right after the fumble came this close to being a touchdown - maybe the slightest amount of contact that got him off balance.  Whew!

Even if CWRU would get a 5 seed (not sure Franklin wouldn't be higher) I doubt that your 4-5 matchup would take place.  I can't see the NCAC having CWRU bus by MUC, Cap, or even Franklin to get to Wabash.

Oh, I was just thinking logically! Silly me.

I think if CWRU has one loss they are #6. An unbeaten Case, with Wabash still undefeated and Capital with one loss, is #5.

Of course, I post this and chaos will ensue! (Oh, please!)

Smed, don't forget that there is also a tendency to reward undefeated teams.  Last year CMU hosted a first round game.  I would not be too surprised if a 10-0 Wabash and a 10-0 CWRU were seeded #3 and #4 ahead of a 9-1 Capital.  Of course, last year 9-1 Capital was seeded #2 ahead of 10-0 #3 Concordia (Wisconsin), but as much as anything that fit geographically with seedings that sent North Central to Concordia and Mt. St. Joseph to Capital.

I also think a one loss CWRU may not get a Pool B bid and would have to sweat out a Pool C bid together with a one loss Mt. St. Joseph.  Methinks the CWRU / Wash U game will be huge for the playoff chances for many teams, not just the actual participants.

If you want chaos, just send Capital to the East region  :D ;)

BashJB49 - Welcome.   I agree, I may be a little early to label this line that good.  But they are scary big and aside from Hilts, they are young and will all be back.  Lets hope the continue to develop.

Bashbrother: Somehow I completely forgot about Hilts anchoring the left side.  He'll at least be selected to the 2nd team this year.  You're right, the others are young and will continue to improve, especially under Coach Gilbert's tutelage.

Oops of course I meant NCAA not NCAC.

I'd guess the Wabash faithful wouldn't relish a first round rematch with Franklin.

"We executed every phase of our game plan in the first quarter," Hollway said. "It was about as perfect as you can get ... we graded out at 100 percent in every phase of our offense

Mike Hollway called Saturday's first quarter "the best 15 minutes of offensive football we've played for a while."

Our second scoring drive was reminiscent of our play in the 90s," Hollway said of the series which took 7:03 off the clock. "We made the plays we needed to make to keep the drive alive ... all while keeping the ball out of Denison's hands."

Bishops had to win versus the Big Red....now, is there enough in the tank to pull another Wittenberg upset....

Are you kidding?  The last two games vs. Franklin have been classics.  I'd love to see a rubber match.

Just watched Sobecki's HB pass to Guerrero.  I still can't believe that ball ever got to Gabe.  Great catch.

Some more Witt/Wabash thoughts after watching the game again last night...

- McKinley is going to be a very very good player.  But he's got to learn to play under control.  He cost his team pretty big with penalties: roughing the passer (gave Wabash a first down instead of what would have been a fourth down on the result of the play), pass interference (on a third down...the penalty set up 1st and goal for Wabash on Wabash's final scoring drive), and the unsportsmanlike foul on the onside kick (which was just a silly, silly foul after watching the replay).  His hit on Russell on the sideline was close...I personally wouldn't have called it a foul, but I've certainly seen late hit fouls called for less.  Those are all pretty big penalties and penalties that could have been avoided.

- I stand by what I said about Huffman and his accuracy.  He started the game 4-4, then cooled way off (17-35 the rest of the way....50% completions don't cut it).  Particularly alarming were the number of short passes into the flats that he over/underthrew.  These short passes are starting to take the place of 1st down running plays and missing on these throws really, really hurts a drive.  That having been said, his ball to Vanover was the best pass thrown by either qb (or rb) all day.

- This was a very intense game.  Big big hitting on both sides and kids were making great plays all over the place.  This series has become must-see for any small college football fan.

It was a really good pass, too.  It had to be because Witt had Gabe double covered and Evan put the ball on the end line which was the only place that ball could have gone and not been picked off.

With all due respect to Huffman and his last toss--which was stellar--the post Hudson hit for Bash's first score goes up there as one of the best thrown deep balls at a post-Knott Wabash. Catch wasn't half-bad either.

16,
