nike......

Are you only a Woo fan once in a while....like in 2004???? You know, I have been at every game too......most of them disappointing primarily because I hate to see anyone, coach or player, not rise to their potential. I can also be very specific about areas we need improvement, rather than vague sweeping comments. BUT, I am never a fair weather fan and I am capable of congratulating those who are having a good season....even if they are on another team.....BUT there is a difference between that and being willing to basically sell your team down the river when things aren't going well. No true fan would ever do that. AND there's a difference between honest congratulations and just plain nauseating prose!  >:(
Did not mean to offend. Wabash people have always treated my family and I well over the years and I have the utmost respect for their football program under Creighton and the school in general.  Recently became aquainted with people inside the school who have only validated my impressions.  But Saturday you will see two programs as different as night and day currently. If game is within 3 or 4 touchdowns, it will be because Creighton pulls starters early.
Have not seen Wooster play tough for 4 quarters all year.  Including Hiram.  They simply are not that good this year.  I thought they were more talented than they are during two a days. Penalties, same pass routes, just a look of overall confusion on offense and defense at times has persisted all year.  Highlight of the season so far was Shepperd's  34 yard scamper against OWU on Homecoming, a school in a similiar situation regarding their football program according to parents of players I talked to.
Don't think  have sold Woo down the river. Give, write letters of recommendations regarding admissions for kids, not just athletes and see as many football games and some basketball games as I can. Barnes and Schmitz are both class acts.  And next year hope to be watching a couple relatives playing instead of friend's kids.  I just love the school. Funny, cause I couldn't get in.  But right now football is not much fun, but I'll be there  just about always with my guys and/or my wife.  Home and away.  Except when games like Wabash-Witt come along every few years.
For what it is worth, have heard the new president is full of enthusiasm about potential of all aspects of the college.  Obviously already a great school.  That could mean change.  For the good.
Would I like to see Wooster win Saturday? Absolutely!   Do I think they have a chance?  No.  Just do not think they have that kind of game in them from what I have seen this year.
Thanks for jogging my memory. Had forgotten about Kearney and Schmitz awards in 2004.  Proudest possesions,  kept in a safe(not really), are yellow t shirts that proclaim Wooster 2004 NCAC champs in football.  But I still have nightmares about Carthage.
No more talk about Wabash.  Until they are scheduled for a trip to to Alliance.  Working on my tickets now.

As usual, I have nothing to add to this fine analysis of NCAC football.

However, I did want to point out that I thoroughly enjoyed the awful Culture Club reference and the equally as Karate Kid mention.

Keep up the great work.

Sigh, that was Kung Fu! Not the Karate Kid...David Carradine, et. al...

I'm old...remember...

Ah, my bad...Kung Fu, Karate Kid...I got my 80s movies now repeatedly on TBS confused.

But give me credit for the the Culture Club...I did know that...of course, I did graduate from Earlham.

QuoteWith a chance to clinch the AQ and a share of the NCAC championship, you can be sure that Wabash's collective head will be in the right place.  You won't find the LGs looking ahead to Denison like you may have seen Cap looking ahead to Mount Union.
What were the teams ScotLass mentions looking forward to.... ?

I was actually responding to your own post regarding the Cap/Ott situation.  Capital unthinkably loses to Otterbein with #1 Mount Union immediately on the horizon.  This kind of thing happens frequently...Oklahoma and Texas both lost to inferior teams the week before the Red River Shootout.  LSU loses to Kentucky the week after Florida and the week before Auburn.  The talking heads call these kinds of games "trap games".  Wabash gets Denison the week after the Wooster trip and as such isn't in a trap game situation is the point I was making.

Were you at Allegheny?
No, I was not, but understand  that the Scots played a fairly  spirited game.
Will be there Saturday. Eating a Coach Tarnow chicken sandwich at the Shack before the game.

smedindy

If Wooster was before DePauw, that would be a trap game.

Wally,
I understood you were responding to my question.  I was asking you about Scotlass's "additional upsets".

Thanks for the education on trap games though, gee, I did not know that.

Even if Cap was looking ahead,  they may have "looked" their way right out of the playoffs. I was at that game and I want to say Otterbein played a great game, led from beginning to end. Cap was outplayed.

wally_wabash

Of course upsets happen.  Nothing is guaranteed in football as the games that have been pointed out prove.  But you can't expect me or any other Wabash fan to say that the Wooster game is scary because App St. beat Michigan or Stanfrod beat USC.  Upsets are the exception, not the rule.  That would be like somebody saying that they're afraid to fly because they read about a plane crash in the news...could your plane crash into a lake on your next trip?  Sure could.  Is it likely?  Of course not.

Just to be safe, I'll drive to Wooster this weekend.   ;)

But what exactly does you driving to Wooster have to do with the Little Giants winning the game? ;D

About as much as Stanford has to do with the Scots winning the game.   :D

I love charts and graphs. Things got stepped up a notch away at Gheny… we let it get away. We are at our house this week, with our fans, our pipers, and our band. I fully expect Wabash to be very tough. Just to be safe, I’ll be driving to Wooster too…..I’d hate to be a Stanford fan that didn’t make it. So many variables on any given day, ya just never know.

GO SCOTS!!!!!

I expect nothing less than Wooster's best shot.  Winning on the road in college football is hard...Saturday won't be any different.

And I really think that the Stanford comparisons are a bit much...if there was a line on this game, it sure as heck wouldn't have Wooster as 40-point dogs.  If Wooster were to win, it would be an upset, yes, but not anywhere near the scale of Stanford or App St.  Give yourselves a little more credit than that.   ;)

The App State, Stanford remarks were made in response to a different context wally, not in response to more intelligent conversation.... ;)

ScotLass,

Your stats could not possibly be correct-Woo could not possibly compare to the Bash - Just kidding!

Could it actually be a game?

I can feel the Karma leaving, oh the pain,  oh life is so bad, I am losing Karma on Post Patterns  ;D  .....and other people think they have problems.

ScotLass

medicine man,

Just wanted to compare apples to apples and look at the possibilites. On the whole, Woo has clearly not been comparable to Wabash this season. However, they have been improving some over the course of the season. They stepped things up a few notches at Gheny. Do they have the ability to step it up more....yes. Do they have the ability to play tough this weekend....yes. But the team that played Gheny needs to show up and make no mistakes. If the team that played Hiram shows up, it will be a very very long day.
