It's rather bittersweet not to see the Dannies in the South Region Top 10. I know that they don't have much of a chance to get the automatic bid after losing to Trinity in the SCAC, but I was kind of hoping we'd have the chance to squelch their playoff hopes  :) I know it's too soon to start talking about Bell as Bash has two games left, but I would like to see their region rank improve only to knock them out of the playoffs and of course keep the Bell.

BashJB49

yeah, no chance for AQ as they lost to Millsaps as well.

Not to mention beating another regionally ranked team would serve to enhance Wabash's seeding.  But from the looks of the South region, a 3-loss DePauw team has no prayer of being in the top 10, so Wabash will have to be happy with their two wins over regionally ranked teams (which as it stands now is more wins over regionally ranked teams than anybody else in the North region!).

Big game for Wheaton at IWU the last game of the season.

The question is that if all of these teams win out, (Capital excluded) will these rankings stay as they are?  I don't know all of the dynamics of how these rankings are put together.

That's a good question.  I know that there are regional advisory/evaluation committees.  My assumption is that the members of these committees put the regional rankings together.  I don't know if it is a subjective vote or if they are using the other selection criteria to rank the teams.  Glancing at the championship handbook I don't see any specifics on how the regional rankings are put together.

It looks like they use pretty much the same criteria for Regional Rankings as they do for Pool C selections.  At least that's what I gathered from Pat's informative "Playoff Primer" on the home page.

If all the teams (Capital exempted) win out and these rankings hold, will the NCAA still shuffle the teams to ease in travel schedules?

They only do that to avoid conference teams meeting in the first round or teams traveling more than 500 miles, really.

BB16 can help me here, but Wabash has platooned on the D-Line in the recent past.  I think in '03 Wabash was running Blair Hammer, Kennon, Lange, Tamarco White, Reggie Foley(?), and a couple of others in and out on nearly every down.  It was really pretty cool...that's a pretty amazing who's who of Wabash D-linemen now that I think about it.  I digress...the point is that it can work if you've got interchangeable parts.  By the time you get to the fourth quarter of games, your DL will be fresh and will control the game.  The fourth quarter of the '03 Bell game was owned by the Wabash defensive line for exactly this reason.

Wabash always runs ALL of its defense in and out. Much like their WR and RBs.

Looking at the regional rankings, it definitely looks like a Wooster / Wabash second round, with the winner having a one way ticket to Alliance.

Please, Capital, pull the upset!!!

I think you mean Wheaton, Smeds?

Of the teams in the current North Regional Rankings, all the teams fall within the 500 mile limit.  I believe Mount is the farthest East and IWU is the farthest West. (489 miles)  I have to believe that even if Witt wins out, it will be very difficult for them and they are going to be challenged for a "C" by some very good teams from the East or West that may be put into the North, which then may change the mix a bit because of the distance rule.

Does Witt have a chance?

When you add the MIAA and IBC Pool A teams.  Witt is essentially #10.  But the NCAA isn't restricted to taking 8 from each region.

Wheaton, you're right. Ack! I've been traveling today and that turns my brain to mush. Er...more mush.

But I am sure the Scot fans would approve of some year a Wooster / Wabash second round playoff game!

As for Witt - slim and none and slim's leaving town.
