Don't forget that for pool C you are competing nationally, not just against North region teams.  So far my hunch is that there are too many 1-loss pool C candidates for any 2-loss team to have much of a chance, but the carnage ain't necessarily over yet!

Not really. It will be quite intriguing!

Alfred, in the east dropped their 2nd game today also.  They were/are being concidered a Strong Pool C Team.

What a crazy year....how about the cluster over in the MIAA?  Hope, Olivet, and Alma are all 5-1 (and all likely to win their final game).  Olivet beat Hope, Hope beat Alma, Alma beat Olivet.  Go figure that one out.

All right people.....speak now or forever hold your peace.... ;D There have been zero posts here since 1 a.m. yesterday. The Bash boys are busy on the 114th Monon Bell thread, Sooooo......here's the opportunity for everyone who says they hog the NCAC board to take over.... :o I've held up my end this season.....where the *ell is everyone? There's games to be played this weekend:

Woo hosts Kenyon with an opportunity to keep our positive momentum going.
OWU will you give Case their only loss?
Are the Puppies gonna hold Witt to a more more respectable score than Woo did?
Gheny/Oberlin, will RV Carroll be enough to win this one?
Earlham coming off a beating to face the Big Red and Barnes.

Discussion? Or no more whining..... ;)

Don't think I don't have one eye (alright, maybe half of one eye) trained on what's happening around the NCAC this week.   ;)

There's still a lot to be decided (OPOY anybody?) and this weekend's games are important.

I'll speak on the Witt front.  I don't think the Puppies will be able to hold Witt in check at all.  Not at home, not on senior day, and not with all the positive energy surrounding Witt athletics as a whole right now (this is shaping up to be a great weekend for Witt athletics).  I would expect to see a lot of Witt's bench take the field this week in trying to see exactly what this team has in store for next year (because, barring more miracle losses this weekend that would get Witt a Pool C, this is it for them).

I think the game of the weekend could be Wooster/Kenyon or Allegheny/Oberlin.  All middle of the pack teams that want to end their seasons on the best possible note.  Should make for a fun weekend.

How about the LL (Liberty League) 4 teams at 5-1 and two will win this week and two will loose this week (RPI @ Union; Hobart @ Rochester).  Good luck figuring that one out.  I think Rochester could get the AutoBid with 3 loses.

The final week is always crazy.

I agree on the Gheny/Oberlin game. But Kenyon is far from a middle of the pack team. They are 1-5 in conference and 2-7 overall. They've played a much lighter schedule than Woo both in and out of conference. Their only wins have been against Grinnell and Hiram. I never underestimate an opponent but if Woo doesn't win this on senior day at Papp pretty handily, then they have slipped way back into the doldrums seen earlier in the season......I've got to give them more credit then that.

On the OPOY front.   I believe the player needs to be nominated by the school to be considered for this award.  I don't believe CC (or Brent H.) will nominate #14.  At least that has kind of been his personality while at Wabash when it comes to his QB's.... plus Hudson has a ton of improvement ahead of him.  Plenty of time for awards and accolades.

Although. personally, I believe Hudson would/should receive strong consideration.  Taking over a Nationally ranked team and doing what he has done as a Soph is truly impressive.

Either RV or Sanchez will get the nod.

short

What a crazy year!  Wooster falls to 0-4 to start the year but bounces back to finish the year with some real momentum heading into next season.  Kenyon stops nobody on defense but has one of the best Offences in the NCAC with the Best Offensive Player.  Oberlin and its RV run wild on the NCAC and sets a new school record for total Offense in a season (not yet but hopeful after this weekend).  Wabash and OWU lose their QB's and find Great new QB's.  Witt rides its Horse Vanover to a 2nd place finish.  Allegheny defense punishes opposing Offenses (very good D-Line). Denison and Earlham find young Freshmen Offensive weapons in Crawford and Foremen (newcomer of the year anyone ;-).  Hiram appear to be getting better and a win this weekend would surely show that.  Who am I kidding; a few scores and holding Witt under 50 will show that!  Wabash wins the NCAC this year, and with Hudson back they look to be the frontrunners to win it again next year they just need to find another Adi (good luck with that one).

BashBacker#16

I hope Sanchez has been removed form POY honors.  I also can't see RV Carroll winning it with NCAC wins vs. Denison, Kenyon, Earlham, & Hiram.  Then, being a non-factor in 2 blowout losses to Wabash (45-14) and Witt (38-14)!  It just doesn't add up.

Wabash QB - Matt Hudson - he has been HUGE any way you look at it
Wabash WR - Mike Russell - would not be surprised at all (3 straight 100+ efforts)
Wittenberg RB - Andy Vanover

Hudson may have sealed it Saturday.

wally_wabash

In most years I would agree with you here bashbro, but this isn't most years.  There aren't any other really standout candidates this year.  Carroll is having a nice season, but to what end?  Unless they win on Saturday, Oberlin will finish 4-3 with zero wins against the traditional upper half of the NCAC which will put them right in the middle of the pack and ahead of lower half of the league which is exactly where they were predicted to finish.  Nothing special has happened here.

Sanchez...Kenyon is regressing.  Sanchez has a 15:11 TD to INT ratio which is not good.  His team is 2-7.  His numbers are good (again, good but not mind boggling)....unless we're talking about an A-Rod with the Rangers kind of deal where the numbers are so overwhelming that there is no other choice, I don't think you can give this kind of award to a team in the cellar.

Hudson on the other hand is on the cusp of breaking, nay, shattering single season NCAC records for completion percentage and PER.  He's having all-time NCAC seasons in two categories...Sanchez and Carroll are having seasons that we've seen before.  Hudson steered this ship to a perfect 7-0 in NCAC play and it wasn't just that he didn't screw things up, he came up big and made big plays particularly in the Witt game which is when I would have expected inexperience to possibly get him.  I honestly think that if Hudson were a junior or senior, this debate wouldn't be happening.  The biggest strike against Hudson right now is that he's a sophomore, and underclassmen almost never get these awards from the NCAC.

Don't see how it can be anyone other than Hudson and Pynenberg.  Almost 75% completion rate.  My son would say "that is sick".  And Pynenberg, nothing needs to be said.
Who is in the backfield?
Feel like Shepperd came on during the season and should have a good shot at 1st team based on numbers.
Also, OWU people, what is the deal with Hymes for next year and Boff and Fisher?
Interesting situation there.

aueagle

Great question nike.....Hymes played one game and is a Sr...Boff (Jr) plays when Fisher (Frosh) needs a rest. Will Hymes get a medical and be able to play in 2008? Beats me....that's a NCAC/NCAA question or somebody else that know's. Maybe after graduating he might say, "I am outta here." I like Boff alot, because of his arm...but Fisher fits better in the "H" offense because he is a runner. If Boff is smart...he stay patient...Bishop QB's get beat-up.
Case Western game....Coach Debelijak has done a great job in Cleveland. He has a great connection to the Northeast Ohio HS coaches...and his recruiting has shown off. Spartans average 38 pts /game...CWRU "D" holds 'em to 13.7pts. On paper, Bishops don't stand a chance in Cleveland....we'll see.
