I think it IS worth watching, and 8,000 a game isn't so bad.

8,000 per game isn't bad, but today's professional sports leagues aren't about butts in seats, they're about butts on couches watching games on television.  Ticket sales are a good indicator of general fan interest, but the real money comes from television contracts and advertising and unfortunately the WNBA just isn't as aesthetically pleasing to the casual sports fan as almost anything else.  The NBA (smartly) schedules its WNBA season in the middle of the summer where the only thing it's really competing with is the dog days of Major League Baseball, and people still don't watch.  So why is the league still around?  I've read some articles today about this (and not just Simmons ranting about how terrible it is), and despite the WNBA being a total money drain, it has had the ancillary effect of increasing the female viewership of the NBA by quite a bit.  In 2006, the NBA charted a double digit increase over the previous year in the number of females aged 18-34 (that's the key demographic for television marketers) who watched the NBA playoffs on television.  That, probably more than anything else, is why the WNBA has survived for 10 years despite being a money pit...it's getting the key female demographic to start watching the NBA.

Any reason that there are only 9 finalists listed on Case's website??????????  Seems to be a noticeable omission!

Sorry for the threadjack as well, but I must respond. The product is not the problem. The NBA was almost dead in the 70's and early 80's. No one went to the games. No one. Before revenue sharing the NFL had issues with some franchises, and MLB even threatened to unjustly pull the plug on some teams.

The purity is not from an above-the-rim aspect - my childhood memories were full of the old ABA Pacers playing an enjoyable fast-paced game and Darnell Hillman's monster slams. The issue is FUNDAMENTALS. Making crisp passes to set up the jams, playing good defense, hitting the mid-range jumper. That's the issue I have. I think the coaches of elite athletes do not teach fundamentals at an early age.

Most of the WNBA's detractors are mean-spirited, focusing on the looks of the athletes and the implied sexuality.

BB16 - sorry if you can't deal with something outside of the box here. I thought Wabash men enjoyed discussion and thought provoking arguments and were not beholden to rigid formalities...let 'others' speak to me as well.

That's funny...this can't be just coincidence, right?  What are the odds?

That's pretty funny.

They may have left him off their list.... they won't be able to keep him off the field on Saturday.  ;)

I presume that will be rectified--at least after Saturday.  That site has its fair share of unintended ommissions, I wouldn't be so sure it was intentional.  But then again...

BTW - I'm not going into the MIAC board to stump for Adi. Not with Kofoed also on the ballot.

I assure you Adi does not need to be on your website....as he will be ALL OVER YOUR FIELD!!!

Congrats to CC and all the coaches on his award....also to each of the players receiving awards....With a ten team conference these are great accomplishments

ADL70

It should be a great game with each defense led by a Gagliardi Trophy finalist and each offense by a talented sophomore QB.

Page has been updated. Anyone who is not aware of Adi's talents surely doesn't know D3 football. That is not the CASE here, they would never do anything like omit a player because he plays on opposing team. That would be childish and we are not children here are we.

This game will be a very good one ( i voted it as most exciting on D3 home page).... Good Luck to all who play this weekend in D3 playoffs.

WOO: Nice finish winning their last two games. Both the D + O lines improved as the year went on, that is a good sign for next season. Wide-outs again were not as productive as the tight ends, with Miska and Schrock both graduating, it will be interesting to see how the passing game looks next year. Shep will be solid as long as the O-line continues to improve and add that to QBs mobility and the O should be competitive. With Geffert graduating, the D-backs will be pressed to improve next year.

I have already posted this list but let's see what doesn't fit here....Tony Sutton, All American...Jake Knott, All American...Tristan Murray, All American....Casey Donaldson, All American..............RV CARROLL.  Think about that list for a minute.  In addition, the most valid point anyone made on this is the question; if Dustin Huff would have put up the same numbers that Matt Hudson put up, would he have been the Offensive Player of the Year???  Hell yes he would have!  The credibility of this award just took a huge hit in my opinion.

We've been saying all along that the biggest strike against Hudson for the 2007 Gregory Award is that he's a sophomore.  That, it turns out, is too much of an obstacle to overcome.

Congrats to all the award winners!

I would have thought that the fact that he only started seven games was as big an obstacle or a bigger one than his age.
