Any chance Hudson and Pynenberg split the ballot? I know that was an impressive list of offensive talent mentioned earlier ...

Well, Adi can't win the offensive POY award.

The NCAC passes around it's weekly awards in a rotation system, it seems. Perhaps they're thinking the Wabash QB is a 'system' QB? Hard to say. We do seem to grow good ones like corn grows near Mace.

Gotcha -- explains why they're all offensive players. ;)

I would have thought it would be appropriate to have co-POYs on the offensive side.

As far as the "system" QB thing I think that's an interesting thought. It kind of reminds me of what has happened down here at Texas Tech. Every year a new QB steps in and puts up great numbers for them and it's gotten to the point where they get totally disregarded. I guess the real test would be what happens when Hudson puts up these same type of numbers over a 10 game span next year.

I think this was a great opportunity for the conference to award a quality athlete from one of the middle to bottom half teams in the conference.

Oberlin did finish in third place outright in the conference this year (5-2 in NCAC games).  That, ahem, actually makes them one of the top teams in the conference.

I think TT qb's would get more attention if their team didn't go 7-5 every year.  It's easy to be disregarded as a "system" qb when the system doesn't win championships (I liken Leach's offense to Arsenault's system at Grinnell...it's spiffy and sets records and catches the attention of people, but it doesn't win consistently).  Hudson may be a "system" qb, but he's a winner.  And let's give CC some credit.  I don't think that you could plug in any shlub behind the center and make this offense work.  CC recruits and trains really good quarterbacks.  These kids would be successful at most schools (see 2005 Gagliardi finalist Mitch Tanney...originally recruited and enrolled at Wabash, transferred to Monmouth and went on to have a couple of great seasons there).

Not saying that anyone is some 'schlub' - it's just a matter of perception. Anyway, I bet the vote was verrrry close, you know. I can't imagine Carroll winning in a landslide. Could it be close to a Flordia '00 vote??

Oberlin may have finished 5-2 in conference play, but they also did not have the opportunity to dace all the big dogs of the conference, Which is always going to be a problem as long as the conference rotates who plays who, We saw it the past few years with Kenyon finishing near the top of the conference and I remember all the Wabash guys being very upset that Kenyon could get the automatic bid to the playoffs. As much as I would love to say we should have everyone play everyone in the conference ( OAC style) I don't like the idea because it takes away from the non conference games which I think really make the top teams in our conference more playoff ready, bash played a very tough non conference, Wooster and gheny play tough non conference, witt does the same, and all of these teams have intentions of competing for the NCAC crown every year.

In the meantime, Congrats to RV, good luck to the Bash, reppin the NCAC  in the playoffs, take care of Case.

Also to Witts Porter on first team Kicker, he had a good year!

Did not see Carroll play,  I must admit, but looked at the scores and stats and who played who and saw Hudson play a couple times.  Think everything pointed to Hudson.  Unless stats are overwelming, like if Carroll had run for 2000 yards like Sutton did, seems like winning should trump just about everything else. Will look forward to seeing him play next year.
Still scratching my head regarding Vanover over Shepperd. Looked at rushing yardage and tds and receiving. Maybe more wins mattered there.

Bayernfan,
I don't know of any Wabash activities tonight or even tomorrow morning. I'm sure there will be individual tailgate stuff going on...but the college has no information about an "official" Wabash tailgate. I hope there are a lot of Wabash people there...but...with the students on Thanksgiving break, the weather going to be chilly with a 10-20 mph wind...and a very long trip...I have no idea what kind of crowd will be there tomorrow. I'm planning on going...and I sent a letter to all the Fort Wayne, IN alums to see if anyone wanted to ride along...but...no response as of yet. However, the day is young.
Go Wabash, Beat CWRU.

I think you're going to see a pretty good Wabash crowd tomorrow, 78.  I know of a lot of folks who are making the trip to Cleveland.

High winds concern me a bit, but I think the wind factor will be a push as both teams like to throw it around.  From what I can gather Cleveland avoided major snow yesterday, so it should be a clean track.

I hope the winds are not going to be much of a factor. There are a few things that will help.    First of all, the field is almost surrounded by fairly tall buildings of some kind.  The North end is the only real open section.  The field sits almost perfectly North/South.

Secondly, all that I am seeing is for a 15 mph wind from the SW at game time on the weather sites I use.   If it stays at 15 or below, I think it'll be just fine.

Wally,
I hope you're right about the Wabash following. It'll be fun no matter what.
Are you going to be there, Wally?

wally_wabash

Wouldn't miss it.  My crew and I are headed to Columbus in a couple of hours, and then we'll be headed for Cleveland early tomorrow morning.  I can speak for the whole gang when I say that we're fired up for tomorrow.
