A college coach needs to be given 4 to 5 years before you can really judge their program.  ND didn't give Willingham enough time, he should have be given until the end of this season.  Now lets give Weiss a couple more years and see how his recruits pan out before he is declared a failure.

Would be interesting to hear what Brady Quinn would say about the differences in the two coaches, although he is too classy to do that.  But Ty recruited him, not Charlie.
Think that this season was a failure for sure, after all we are talking about  Notre Dame, but will ND folks give him that kind of time?  With his big fat contract, maybe so.

Notre Dame's Sagarin rating was 87th, nestled between Florida Atlantic and Houston. Eight 1-AA teams have higher ratings than that.

Their Massey rating is 77th in D-1 using both MOV and the BCS way without MOV. Without MOV, that puts them between Bowling Green and Wyoming. With MOV, that's between East Carolina and Houston.

In the overall Massey rating (rating all teams) they are 89th without MOV and 93rd using MOV.

For the record, I have never been a ND fan, I just find it strange that a team can get so bad so quickly.  As a football fan I remain puzzled.   I looked at their last couple of years of recruiting through the eyes of Scout.com

Recent Rankings of ND Recruiting classes

2002 - 13th
2003 - 5th
2004 - 30th
2005 - 27th
2006 - 5th
2007 - 11th

We may be seeing the 2004/2005 crops showing.  Who knows.   These recruiting rankings can only be used as a general guideline to project future success.   Injuries, academics, transfers, trouble with the law etc... can blow a recruiting class up.

How crazy are these stats & facts on Mount Union:

>- roster has 186 players
> - 4 guys wear #32, 4 guys wear #34!!!!!!  Most number assignments have at least 2 guys
> - they have punted 6 times all season in 14 games!
> - they have given up 5 points per game
> - they average 52 points per game
> - opposing teams average .7 yards per rush
> - they give up 24 yards rushing per game
> - they are 98 for 99 in PATs
> - in 14 games, they have given up 6 points in the first quarter
> - Mount has rushed for 57 TDs on the season, opponents have 3

CRAZY!

That is pretty scary........

Definition of dominance.   Those 186 are mostly, if not all, quality.  Thus is the reason they reload.  Even with the number of seniors graduating this year... they will most likely be scary good next year as well.

I would seriously love to see Mount Union play the local I-AA school (Texas State). I think they'd beat the snot out of them.

I don't put much stock into recruiting class rankings....I think those are largely designed to sell preview magazines in July.  Why not inflate ND's recruiting class ranking and get their enormous, national fanbase pumped up enough to spend $15 on an Athlon magazine?  That's just good business.  You don't have to watch a lot of Notre Dame football to see that right now they just don't have very good players.  They've been overwhelmed in pretty much every big game that they've played in recent history...the lone exception is when they got beat by the Leinart/Bush push a couple of years ago.  But I think that was a case of ND playing over their heads than an indication that they were as good as USC (or teams of similar overall athletic ability).

I don't sign on to the idea that Weis has ruined ND football...I think he's got to be given some time (one recruiting cycle) to see just how good he can be at this college thing.  And he'll get it thanks to the 10-year extension he got after his first year.  It's just too pricy right now (even for ND) to buy him out just yet.

Wow that's really sweet. If Mount had that, I'd never get anything done :D As it is, I spend too much time watching streams from other schools.

Thanks for the link. +K

Mount Union has 2200 students. About half are male. So almost 17% are on the football roster? Amazing!
So is there no way Whitewater can win Saturday?  It does not seem that many on here even think it will be a close game.  I am guessing four touchdwns or more will be the difference.   I hope I am wrong.

Congrats to #40.

What a player...what a person.   It is going to suck not having him prowling the middle next year.

Not prowling the middle? How about the entire field?  ;)

Mount averages 54 first downs per game?  :o  I thought most of their TD drives required no more than one first down, maybe two first downs at the most.  ???  Oh, I see, that's only the first quarter . . . then it's just ball control to run out the clock.  :-\

MUC averages just under 26 first downs per game.  Which is still disgusting.
