Quote from: Joe Wally on December 21, 2007, 10:34:13 AMHey, the life of an alumnus is not complete without the constant drum beat of correspondence from the alma mater's regarding the latest capital campaign.

You know, I never get any of that stuff from the school I got my law degree from. I guess that confirms my suspicions it was a diploma mill.   ;)

Really tough loss for Wabash.  I truly hope Neathery decides to stay on and keep the continuity going.

If he decides to move on as well is there anyone that has any knowledge as to who Wabash may look to?

Would the coach at Franklin have any desire in the Wabash job.  I know he has built a pretty good program at Franklin.  I do think it would be a step up although a small one.  Wabash is in a more established conference with regards to football.  Plus he does have ties to the conference being that he coached at Wittenberg.  Any thoughts?

I'll tell the Bell you said that next time I'm through the Neal Fieldhouse. :)

It's in the fieldhouse?  I thought for sure they'd have transported it to a bunker 2 miles below sea level by now.

Thanks for the tip...where'd I put that blowtorch...

I take a day away from checking the message board and this happens...WOW.

Seriously, I wish Coach C all the best.  Besides being a top notch football coach, he is a role model for all of us.  Wabash will miss him.

But, as many have said, life goes on.  I am confident that the Administration is well aware of the significance of the position when it comes to admissions and alumni relations.  Coach N is an outstanding candidate and I think it was the right move to offer him the position.  If he goes with Coach C, it will be a disappointment, but understandable.

If the search is expanded, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it will be someone with whom any of us are familiar with.  How many of us had heard of Coach C before he was hired?

Best wishes to everyone this Holiday season.

Drake a doormat??

They had an interim coach this year, but the coach before had a record of 125-63-2. Not a doormat by any means or measure!!!!! They were 10-2 in 2004 (and won the PFL title) and 9-2 in 2006.

If they go outside Wabash connected people I suggest they find a Mount Alum schooled by LK.  Maybe someone like ONU or Heidelberg hired recently.  They take care of the important stuff (academics etc. first then football.  Football is important but only when everything else is taken care of.

Hmmm, maybe Vince Kehres is available.  ;)

That thought certainly crossed my mind.

Assuming Neathery follows CC to Drake, what about somebody like Derek Moyers - good success at Cascade, goes to Pike and takes team to state championship game in his first year, pretty young guy to whom players can relate, knows the talent in Central Indiana.

WabashCPA,

Are you freaking kidding me??  Chris Creighton swapped for Derek Moyers?  Nothing against Coach Moyers but you think that would be a good hire?  Is he your brother or something?  He was the head coach at CASCADE H.S............ Indiana Class 2A school in Hendricks County - CASCADE H.S...........and then has 1 great year at 5A Pike but c'mon.  They were such a powerhouse that they sent their stud QB to Ferris State!  Plus he is a Hanover grad, why didn't they hire him?  I don't think there is any doubt that Wabash could get a guy on a much higher level.

Apparently the press conference has been moved to tomorrow at 2 P.M.  Bad weather was stated as the reason.  Maybe he's having second thoughts?  :)

NN is the pivotal figure here.  If he stays, we need a stud Offensive Coordinator.  If NN leaves...yikes...we need a D-coordinator & an Offensive Coordinator.

Yeah, I'd be very seriously shocked if Wabash went poking around at local lower-division high schools for a replacement here.  I think the Wabash job right now is going to have some prerequisites, one of which is some college coaching experience with sustained success.  And I don't think Wabash will have trouble finding interested candidates who fit that bill.  No need to take a flier on an unproven high school coach here....the risk/reward just isn't worth it at this particular point in the program's history.
