So, would Brock Spack come back to Crawfordsville, or is that too substantial a step down from d-coordinator of a big ten school?

The guys I knew at Wabash that were coached by Spack loved the guy!

I don't think it's negativity at all. It's two things:

A. Respect for CC

Thank goodness somebody gets it. Can't win with some Wabash fans.

Before names just start flying...I think you have to take a step back and think what CC has done with this program and go from there.  I'd hope the profile would be something like the following:

- 35-40+/- year old (not PC...sorry HR folks)
- PROGRAM guy who gets the "whole" picture along with WINS & losses
- strong recruiter who can recruit with tough academic requirements coupled with a school that is all male
- someone with charisma who can impact the Wabash community - not just the players (note:  see CC's Chapel - Monon Bell talk 2006) - a leader, a motivator, a salesman
- a proven winner who will not accept anything less with his program then championships
- and a phenom ping pong player  ;D

Whoever it is, they don't have to do it CC's way, but I think BIG picture, CC has set the bar pretty high and has demonstrated what a person in that position can do - IMPACT.

As a PS ... I believe the vote make up on the D III page simply continues what I have perceived over time as a sort of negative prejudice there toward Wabash.  It will be interesting to see how ... with the material in house and an elete 8 finish ... how far down the preseason poll next year will place us.  Good thing it is essentially meaningless.  The .500 balony is just that.

There is NO proof of this. they wouldn't even be mentioned if there was a prejudice. Wabash doens't get treated any differently than any other team from my perspective.

Brock is a DI coordinator being groomed for a DI job....not a chance.

He has been a D1 ccordinator for a long time. I wonder why he hasn't become a head coach yet? He was at Eastern, Wyoming and purdue as a coordinator. I would think he would have gotten his chance by now.

Lynch came to Greencastle from a Div I program.

Gee, do you think he might be waiting for the right opportunity? H'es been widely viwed as the successor to Tiller at Purdue which, of course is his alma mater. My point is whether he gets that job or another one, Wabash is not going to be in the mix.

They had a good year with Lynch, but for the long term, I'm not so sure that was the best move.  If Wabash is going to look at FBS coordinators, I'd hope they'd use extreme caution and make sure that we don't get into a one year and out situation.  That would be a real quick way to undo everything that's been done in the last seven years.

I think Purdue is getting close to needing a reinvention...the novelty of simply making bowl games is starting to wear off.  Tiller is something like 2-8 in bowl games and the locals aren't particularly jazzed about the Motor City Bowl.  If they make a move in the near future (I think they will), I'm not convinced that they'll follow the Tiller tree.

Former Carolina Tarheel Coach John Bunting (Super Bowl as player) has stated he would like the opportunity to coach at the D3 level. #16-He's to old!!

That's interesting...a guy who's had a chance at the big time, didn't pan out and wants to coach at a lower level....it's working out alright for Mike DuBose and Millsaps.  I'd be ok with something like this as long as the guy understands that the first game of the season actually counts.   :)

John Bunting has coached at the D-III level, just for those who don't know. He coached at Rowan before K.C. Keeler.

You are right on all counts, including making a clean break in the post-Tiller era. Tiller has done some great things for Purdue, but that ugly bowl record is just one thing detractors can point to as an indication of a program that is in decline.

I haven't been that impressed with Spack. Many seasons Purdue has had issues on defense.

Ypsi - yep, the MIAC, not MIAA.
