Right LGH - When Neathery went to Drake we need to look for the best person to lead the team. I think many programs get sidetracked because they want to stay 'in the family'.

Just remember, Bo Schembechler was on Woody Hayes' staff at OSU before he went to Michigan.

Here is my Short List of People Wabash should go after

1. Mike Leonard (Franklin) has IN recruiting/coaching/playing ties
2. Chris Wiesehan (OL Syracuse) he is a Wabash Man
3. Jim Collins (Capital) proven he can beat Wittenburg, would probably like to get alway from Mount Union
4. Greg Debeljak (Case) coming off an 11-1 year with his only loss to Wabash
5. Eric Koehler (Wartburg) 16-4 in his 1st 2 season as a HC has IN recruiting/Coaching/Playing ties
6. Mike Sirianni (W&J) has done a great job, is young, and a D3 guy!
7. Brain Ward (McPherson) Strong Wabash tied under CC and a GREAT Recruiter
8. Jim Zebrowski (OC UW Whitewater) Has been a Head Coach at Lakeland with a 24-4 record in League Play
9. Pedro Arruza (Randy- Mac) Played at Wheaton coach at Wash U so has mid-west ties
10. B.J. Hammer (Whitter) a little too young but a Wabash Man

Greg Debeljak would be a great hire.  I doubt he'll leave Cleveland, but he gets a ton out of his student-athletes and is a guy who understands his players.  He would do extremely well there.

That's a good list...it would be hard to be upset with pretty much anybody on that list.

I believe Jim Collins is headed to Saginaw Valley State.

Pedro Arruza would be a geat hire for wabash. he is cut from a pretty good cloth. played for JR Bishop and Mike Swider at Wheaton. Coached with Larry Kinbom at WashU. He is a great leader and motivator and knows his stuff. would be an impact guy but young on experience. very similar to a CC hire from Ottowa.

My sources tell me that CP Porter has left the Wabash program. Is that correct?

Something to be aware of regarding Coach Leonard, he GA'd under Nick Mourouzis at DePauw in the mid 80's.  I think he's still fairly close with Chief, if I recall correctly.

Although, at the same time, he's a Hanover alum who also coached under Wayne Perry.  He then crossed the Victory Bell lines to be the head guy at Franklin.  So there's that.

He's a monster recruiter...he connected Wabash to the southwest (Arizona) and if I remember correctly he did a lot of his in-state recruiting in southern Indiana which has netted some pretty key players (Russell and Lange to name a couple).

(Ward)

He also brought a kid from Evansville that wore #3.  Was a big influence in turning him away from the "Greendingle Darkside".  Anyone that can take top recruits away from Depauw deserves a look.  Arizona/Texas pipeline also served us well.

Now that Collins will be in the GLIAC, he gets to butt-heads with D2 power Grand Valley State. Getting away from MUC - he just traded up to an equal or bigger problem with the Lakers.

Now the "bigger" programs are tapping into our D3 guys....a true testament in the quality that is in D3.

I wonder if recruits will favor OWU now that there has been coaching changes at Bash & Cap...MMmmmmm.......

I think that's going to depend on the timing and quality of the hires at both schools. They are both better programs than they were before their recently departed coaches. It's important for both to keep that going or the recruits will start to turn elsewhere.

Granted in D3, many top student athletes make their college choice for many reasons other than Football, but wouldn't you think that Mount Union's dominance would, over time, hurt the recruiting of "Top" athletes for the other schools in the OAC?  Knowing that you likely have no chance of winning the conference from Day 1.

Thoughts anyone?

Any thoughts on how the departures of Coaches Creighton and Neatherly will affect recruiting at Wabash? Or already is affecting it? Especially with those quality players who have Wabash on their short list...

With as much chatter as there has been about this it seems like this has been going on forever, but let's keep in mind that all of this has gone down in the last week...and a holiday week at that.  I don't know how much recruiting happens during Christmas.  As of right now, I'd say that it's pretty negligible.  Obviously kids are going to hold, particularly those that were drawn to CC himself more than the school (although I think CC did an outstanding job of selling the College as the experience kids should come for and not so much to play football for him specifically).

If you want to promote division 3 sports, do a google search for pontiac game changing performance and vote for the only d3 play that will likely be seen there for a long time.  We only have a few days left and Appalachain State is currently in the lead.

A vote for Trinity is a vote for d3football.
