How about - Kevin Donley / St. Francis.   He has built a top NAIA program up in Fort Wayne.  Been there awhile and may not be interested in leaving.  91-19 in 9 years is not too shabby.

He can coach football and recruit. I remember CC's staff had to adjust to NCAA rules from the NAIA and I wonder if Donley would want to deal with that change. That program is one of the elite's in the NAIA now and he may not want to move.

It's like hiring Larry Brown to coach the Colts. Does not compute. I hope this is just someone throwing out alumni names and isn't actually serious.

Unless, in either a cost cutting move or to replicate the DPU/Matt Walker model, we are going to hire him as both the Head Football Coach and Head Basketball Coach! :D

The comparison to Larry Brown might be a bit exteme, since Hacklin actually has football experience and is currently in a position where his emphasis (from what I'm told) is football. I've met Hacklin only once, so I don't know what he thinks of football at heart.

The people who were throwing out his name were speculating/hoping/encouraging/etc. Isn't that pretty much what's being done with the host of other names that have been mentioned so far? And, re: Hacklin, my suspicion that I've been hearing him a lot in the past week has a lot to do with his ability to recruit -- and recruit very well to a place like Wabash -- which is a shining point.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Walker has been more successful in his dual role than I thought he would be - and so I need to give him credit. This year's DPU team could have won the SCAC with a healthy Marks. And until Wabash beats DPU in baseball again, I'm not going to say a word about that sport...

Come on smeds, injuries aren't an excuse.  Injuries happen to everybody.  Great teams overcome them and still accomplish goals.

It would be better if we had an example of a team overcoming a catastrophic injury to a vital player and still winning a conference title. Has that happened recently?

Huff going down could have been catastrophic.   The thing is that on good football teams, with talented depth and great coaching, the impact is never as great.

That would be zero.

What he has done is walk into a very difficult situation and do things that few people thought he could or would. He is recruiting exceptionally well...last year's class probably one of the best in school history (certainly in recent memory)...three fresman played significant minutes on the DL and freshmen and sophomores were key contributors on both sides of the ball. And it's still early, but I'm hearing that
this year's recruiting class should continue the trend. He also has the Monon Bell after an 8-2 sophomore season. So I would say things are working out...certainly headed in the right direction. :)

I am biting my tongue quite a bit these days but did someone really mention Joe Hacklin??????  Seriously?  As in the AD at Marian College???  Wow.

BashBro - no thanks on Donley.

LGalum - some of those guys are excellent coaches, if a program is way down, it takes time to get it turned around.  Leonard, Ward, Hammer, Aruzza...all of those guys have done a great job turning a losing program in to a winning one.  Ward was an amazing recruiter for sure.  I also have faith that Bash will be aggressive and go after the next head coach and entice them to ensure their interest.  I have no idea about Leonard but the fact he just re-upped with Franklin wouldn't eliminate him.  Again, I hope Wabash does what we have to do to get the right guy.

Joe Hacklin...wow................................?
