Quoteyea.....it is pretty much a total joke.   Next they'll be bringing Kelvin Sampson on the hill for making inappropriate phone calls to recruits..... or Bill Belichek for illegal taping. (spinning this back to football  )

I think our government has a few more important things to handle......

It is funny you said this, I heard earlier this week that Congress was going to look into the Patriot's illegal taping.  Did anyone else hear this?  Congress is getting completely out of control.  Just a bunch of athlete want to be's.

This actually happened yesterday, but it was hard to hear about over the Clemens hearing.  The Commish (D3 in the house!) met with Senator Sour Grapes (Arlen Specter) to talk about the video taping incedents.  He's mainly concerned that the Pats cheated the Philly Eagles (his constituency) out of the Super Bowl a couple of years ago.  He's not looking into this as a serious crime against Americans so much as he's looking into it because he's a bad loser.

Pretty lengthy piece on the Goddell/Specter dustup on SportsCenter this morning - Arlen hasn't been quite coherent ever since the chemo treatments addled his synapses.

Regarding Sampson/IU - makes one long for Coach Knight to come out of retirement.  Cue Jim Nabors - "Back home again..."  ;D

Really? The bafoon didn't do crap for IU from the early 90's on...other than embarrass the school and the state on repeated occasions. The only thing more embarrassing are the hayseeds calling into sports radio suggesting that this is a good idea...IU basketball has become a joke on multiple levels and for more reasons than Kelvin Sampson.

I guess you can take the coach out of Oklahoma but you can't take the Oklahoma out of the coach. I'm surprised it took this long for Sampson to get IU into trouble. No one that comes out of OU is honest or on the level.

back to Goddell and Specter... I haven't heard anyone talk about the gambling aspect of everything. I can't really articulate why it seems important to me, but with all the millions of dollars bet on every game in the NFL... I think the NFL must prove that some of its teams don't have an unfair advantage.

I still don't know how the signal stealing amounts to much more than a waste of time... but did you hear they are working on a rule change that will put radio communication in the defensive helmets. They are running into  problems deciding who should have them because of substitutions and what not.

The Pats are pissed because this means they will have to schedule more failures in their own headsets... just to cheat the other team

Bad idea for Indiana to go for Sampson in the first place. He was a walking car wreck waiting to happen.

Sorry you missed the "grin" icon, DPUFan - future facetiousness will be subdued and punchlines will be left to Eric Crawford (Louisville Courier Journal).

I'm no Knight apologist, though there are some admirable traits, once the detritus is shoved aside and one stays clear of "friendly fire."  Buffoonery?  Absolutely!  It's tough for a prima donna to surrender a throne to snot-nosed adolescents, overzealous zebras, or ivory-towered academes.  Embarassment is admission that he dated your sister-in-law in high school, or was the first to sign a seven year-old's autograph book, before Lucas or Havilchek, after the 1960 Hoops Championship at a Rotary Club meeting when in polite company.

A Knight comeback?  H*ll no - grab the fly rod, meet up with Conn, and head for the mountains!

Spoken like a true Longhorn.   :)

Knight to IU...not happening.  That bridge wasn't just burned, it was nuked.   Say what you will about his later years at the institution, the one thing he never did was violate NCAA rules.  This business with Sampson, I think, is far more damaging and embarassing for the institution than Bob Knight flinging chairs around or browbeating reporters.

Here in Minnesota people are pleased with Tubby, but vexed about the Gophers' hockey. They're currently 7th in the WCHA and have a losing record and may not make the WCHA Final Five tourney. Yipes!

....It's great to hear about the student/athlete at Wabash. Their trip to Botswana is a breath of fresh air in our SportCenter soundbites. For a young man like JT Moore to say, "Get out & help somebody else" is awesome. "Pretty cool stuff"..bashbro? Sounds like the right stuff too. Those men will have my prayers on the mission. If Coach Raeburn didn't fully understand the character at Wabash....this trip will make it clear.

But weren't the bridges he burned with an old administration?  Haven't the people that forced him out moved on?  I don't think it's as much of a long shot as some may think, because it would also help fuel Knight's ego, along the lines of "I knew you needed me all along."  Plus, that campus was (if I remember right) pretty split on the Knight issue, so I'm sure he'd have his fair share of supporters.

This is true, but it is my understanding that the current president has close ties to Myles Brand and it would be extremely unlikely that he would undo what Brand did.  Also, it's likely that IU is going to be sanctioned and on some kind of probation for the next couple of years so the job probably isn't as attractive as it would be otherwise.

BTW, Gameday is in Bloomington this morning.  The sign of the day so far reads: "Sampson Likes the 3-Way".  Great stuff.

QuoteNEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A lawsuit filed Friday by a former St. Louis Rams player and others seeks millions of dollars in damages from the alleged taping of Rams practices by the New England Patriots before the 2002 Super Bowl.

The Patriots won the game 20-17 in the Superdome.

The $100 million suit, filed on behalf of former Rams player Willie Gary in U.S. District Court in New Orleans, names the Patriots, team owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick.

How far is this going to go?  I think Wally said it, sour grapes.  I think there is more taping than is let on, the Patriots just got caught.  I'm not a Patriots fan, quite the opposite.  When is enough, enough?  As always.
