QuoteI have a question about the field turf. Don't the track and field guys use the football field for throwing events? Is it okay to jam javelins or hammers in the field turf? Or are they going to have to move those events?

Great question.  I quess they can move it to the mall.    :D

Maybe they can use plastic javelins with velcro on the tips or pad the hammers with styrofoam.

Or they could recruit people like me - my varsity letter was as 'javelin and shot catcher'. ;)

seriously, who keeps giving me negative Karma... What if I had a complex about my karma, you guys would be driving me to the edge...
But on a serious note, what does this field turf cost?
and could someone explain the soccer/ football practice field... basically splitting mud hollow in half and field turfing the whole thing... both running north south?

Will someone give me an amen on not having soccer lines in Little Giant Stadium?

Do you mean to say soccer is on inferior footing to football at Wabash? If so, you have lost the soccer vote!

Unfortunately, all sports are inferior to football at Wabash.

I'm going to second the soccer lines thing. One of the nice things about an all-male college is the lack of volleyball lines on the hoops court.

Oh, pshaw. You need a court or a field with about 20 skidillion lines on it. I think it builds good eyesight.

Wabco,

I thought the following:  The current baseball field will be the new soccer stadium.  The current soccer field will be a big chunk of the new field turf practice field (football & IM's).  I have heard 2 things:  1)  2 - 60 yard fields side by side.  2)  a 100-yard field.  I think there will be an area left with natural grass too.  Wabco - anything on the VIP seating section idea & any chance for the elevator you have mentioned.  I was just wondering what the home side stadium improvements would be.  Any insight?

BashBro - nice!  Go back to Vegas and "get it back" we need it.   ;D

Soccer on field turf?

It will certainly create a definite home pitch advantage, as it will increase the speed of the ball relative to what the kids are used to on natural grass.

Have you taken up curling already, Smeds? I once saw part of the World Championships in Duluth and as a spectator sport it ranks with watching paint dry. Hardest part is keeping all the straw off the rink from the brooms. BTW "rink" refers to the 4 guys that constitute a team- I forgot what they call the ice. ;)

Sentiments like this are a good way to raise karma.   :)

Football fields and soccer fields shouldn't share lines.  There's enough space for everybody to have their own dedicated field.  As far as cost goes...no worries there.  If there are things Wabash needs and/or wants, the sons of Wabash will pull together and make it happen.  That's how we roll.   ;)

True, but quite a few schools now have field turf for soccer (including women's NC Wheaton, though they won it on grass).

In my 59 years I have curled twice.  It is really cool to do, but as a spectator sport - uh, no.

On the other hand, how can bowling possibly be a ratings winner? ???

Hey I just read the Front Page of D3.com and about BSC coach Joey Jones making 150K!  That sure is alot for a D3 Coach, right? That question got me thinking, "what do our NCAC HC's and Assistants make? My guess is that NONE of them touch 150k.  I think the good Headers (Wabash, Witt, AC, OWU, Oberlin) must make about 75k-95k and the other (Denison, Kenyon, COW, Hiram, EC) make about 65-85k. I would quess the OC and DC make 35-55k.  Maybe I'm way to low, what do you guys think?

I don't have the answer to your question, but since there are a number of state schools in Div-III (e.g. the U-W schools) their salaries should be a matter of public record.
