Doing my weekly random searches on Youtube, check out this highlight clip of UW-W's LB A.J. Raebel.  I would think and hope he makes it in to an NFL camp.  I didn't realize he ran this well.  Love the 1st hit on this...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-_x0jeo8TY&feature=related

Congrats to Wabash assistant Coach Jake Gilbert for being named Defensive Coordinator.    In addition, Josh Heig will serve as Quarterbacks coach - he played for Coach Raeburn at Coe and has most recently been on the staff at Lake Forest.  Spring ball starts March 16.

The "first hit" on the reel destroyed UW LaCrosse"s season. UWLX was riding high with a big non-conference win in Texas ( Hardin-Simmons, I think) and was punishing UWW, Beaver was on the bench with cramps, and it sounded grim. Raebel's hit on the LX QB finished him for the game as well as the next 2. With no way to control the UWW comeback with possession time, Whitewater ran off 3 4th quarter touchdowns and the season was theirs.
Congratulations to Coach Jake and welcome aboard to Josh Heig. Interesting that Gilbert was a standout defensive lineman at Wabash, coached the O line during his career under CC, and now returns to the defense as co-ordinator.
Wabash Always Fights as shown last night at Wooster. What a tremendous performance!

QuoteI'm impressed that wally has kept so much karma for so long!

It's amazing what a little medication will do. ;D

Pat,

Nice article, and thanks on the 21 athletes of Wabash.  I know myself it is hard to find things that are more important than sports.  What these 21 young men are doing, is.  As always.

Interesting update, Old Wabash.  Sad to see Aaron's migration, west, especially after his recent compilation of 'Bash Highlights, but bigger and better awaits, hopefully.  Toffler effect aside, it will be entertaining to witness end results of regime change.

I'm glad to see that Coach Raeburn finally has his staff in order. Now they can go about the business of plotting the course of the team for the upcoming season. I have only followed Wabash since last year and I was very disappointed when CC decided to leave. However, these things happen and I am now super excited about this season. It is going to be a long spring and summer, waiting to see the product on the field.

I believe the product on the field for next year will be good.  It looks like Raeburn has filled out his coaching staff well.  This fall's team will be a Creighton recruited team with Raeburn coaching twists.  Next year will probably be the same ... but we will feel this interregnum in recruiting if we do not get the standard stellar class and there are untoward injuries this fall and it will become more important beginning the year after.

I hope this lost time is picked up ... alternatively we need a relatively injury free enviornment this fall along with great game results ... resulting in  outstanding recruiting thereafter.

But I believe we will be fine on the field this coming year.

sorry to be off subject here, but I was doing some online research and came across the name Aaron Lafitte... I wasn't around the message boards when he played at Wabash, but I was wondering why he left.
He was a terror back in 2003 and then he just vanished off the map... Wondering why he left wabash

Aaron lafitte was injured (a foot or ankle) either in early camp or in the Wheaton scrimmage in 2004. He missed 2 games and was ineffective when he came back. He aggravated the injury in midseason and missed another game.
Brent Harris, when I spoke to him about it, said Lafitte had never been injured in his life and had difficulty adjusting to or accepting what had happened or what he had to do. I know I was at the Bell game in '04 and he just wasn't moving with the speed and panache that I had come to expect. Other than throwing a halfback pass to Harbaugh for a touchdown he was a non-factor. When he left the field, either with the offense of when replaced he just walked to the bench, slowly, and kept to himself.
Brent said he left before the second semester and transfered to Arizona State. There was talk he intended to walk on at ASU, but I don't know if anything came of it. Perhaps some poster from the SW or one of the encyclopedias can provide further details. I would like to know-he was a special talent.
Oddly enough, the slack in the running attack in the '04 game was provided by Austin Gorrell, a freshman. He decided he wanted to play in his home town, or hang with his high school buddies or some such and transfered to Franklin. He played a couple of decent games against the LGs at wide receiver, not being able to budge Franklin's all-world tailback.

Aaron Lafitte played in the spring game for Arizona State in 2005 and was their leading rusher. But he didn't make the roster the next fall. I have no idea what happened after that. It's a shame. He was a beast.

Thanks, Li'l Giant. I knew our Texican on the board, being closer, would have the stuff. I agree it was a shame. Anyone know if the same is going to apply to CP Porter? One rumor had it that he had not returned for the 2d semester, but there does not appear to be an official (or semi-official) statement: ( Wally Wabash, the semi-underground source)

He wouldn't have been eligible to play in fall of 2005. I believe that the NCAA's rules force a player to sit out a season if they transfer from a place like D3 to a bigger-school division (yes, I intentionally avoided the "higher-lower" phrasing  ;) ). At the D1 level, with roster space being at a premium, he could have just been full time on the practice squad.

If he had trouble, as someone said earlier, with handling a season with an injury, maybe sitting out a full year ultimately stole the last of his football fire?

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.
