You guy's are killing me. A week into spring football at Wabash and no inside info on what's been happening? My inside source is as tight lipped as can be,(probably a good thing!) but I expect some of you "insiders" to let us know what's happening?

Per NCAC rules, the team can't really practice against itself...the offense can practice as a unit and the defense can practice together as a unit, but they can't practice against one another.  Ergo, it's hard to say who's looking good and who isn't during the spring.  Even I can look pretty good when nobody is trying to tackle me.   :)

short: Thanks for putting the Bishops up there at #10. That '01 team had 4 players with All-American honors....a very special team. One of my favorites, was RB Matt Capone. Tough kid, who left everything on the field. The bummer of that season was the drubbing the Bishops took from Wittenberg....39-14.
2008...OWU does NOT play Wabash & Denison...2009 too...
If the Bishops are going to contend...this might work to the advantage.

I would have really enjoyed watching a Wabash/OWU game in 2001.  Those were both good teams and I think it would have been an outstanding game.  It was unfortunate that those teams weren't on one another's schedule when Wabash came into the NCAC.

I assume 7 on 7 is ok?

I'm afraid not.  Per the NCAC's spring practice rules, the offense and defense can only line up against "air".  No contact of any kind or anything that is meant to simulate game competition is allowed.  NCAC schools are lucky to even be allowed to use a football in these spring practices.  The conference's stance is essentially that they despise the spring practice period for football, but grudingly go along with it as they recognize that it puts their teams at a competitve disadvantage amongst other NCAA schools that are using that time to practice.

It isn't ideal, but it's better than not having the spring practice period which is/was a very real possiblity given the conference's stance on nontradtional seasons.

Weak. Of course, when we have NCAC presidents pushing for the creation of the "we want to suck" division, that's not a surprise.

Outstanding news on the front page about the end of the D-IV discussion...for now anyway.  This seems like something that is going to pop up from time to time, but I'm glad to see the topic tabled for the foreseeable future.

wally: You're right...that 2001 game would have been outstanding...
This is what I see with my RED & BLACK glasses on....

OWU: 16 starters back...Solid/Big Backfield w/QB Mike Jonesco, RBs; Chad Smith, J. Osborne & Capone.."D" Veteran group...was 2nd in NCAC...

WABASH: CC era begins..Power "O" w/QB Jake Knott...Top D3 receivers in Casper & Short..LG "D"...alot of Jr/Soph's...LB Nathan Boullais is BIG hitter....

NCAC 2000 - Bishpos (4-3) tie for 4th....LG's (5-2) grab 3rd...
Common Opponents 2001: Games that stick-out in my mind:
COW: Bishops get by at 36-30...LG's coast 35-7
Witt: OWU gets blasted at 14-39....LG's lose 3-14
Gheny: Bishops win shoot-out...51-47...LG's win 41-20
LG's lose to Wheaton, a 6-4 team that year, 33-58.....ouch.

Fantasy Game 2001 at Selby: Weather/Perfect....OWU 31...Wabash 24
Sorry wally...the best part of you're season was the last 2.7 seconds in The Monon Miracle!!! I am sure this will get our off-season blood-flowing.......
GO BISHOPS

Does anyone have any recruiting news yet? Looking for a slow recruiting year by Wabash with the turnover, but still think they will get a few KILLERS.  I am expecting a great recruiting year from Wooster with the new administration.  Does anyone have any word how anyone in the NCAC is doing???

Is turf being installed at Wabash for this next season...or its it 2009?

BashBacker#16

Turf at Bash will be '09 season.

Short - I think the Bash recruiting class will be OK, better then one would think.  2 really good commits this week (both out-of-state) and similar numbers for Honors Scholars weekend which typically yields a 60-70% "hit" rate.  Sounds like Coach Raeburn jumped right in and has been involved, especially the top recruits.  I know of at least 1 quality transfer from an Ivy League school that is "close" to a decision.

Wabash also had a huge number of recruits/prospects named to the Indiana North/South All Star game.

FS4 - any knowledge about the TX QB?  Wasn't sure if #4 had any dealings with that??
