Didn't the NESCAC use to play a nine game season until recently....and doesn't the conference still abstain from playoff participation?

RT...My post RE: NCW mentioned "possible southern power"...even though the Bishops lose some talent, the big question is...can they overcome the loss of Head Coach Jack Ginn (a Witt man). He started the program from scratch in 2004 and wins the USA South and the Bishops are the first #8 seed to knock-off a #1 seed (W&J) in the playoffs.
He went to D2 Grand Valley...he is a name to remember.

I agree w/wally that the UAA gets more out of the agreement than the NCAC...
The NCAC has to much to lose, but, I think we should go head to head with the OAC.
Congrats to OWU on the All-Sports Trophy...now, if we can just add a grid championship....play-off run....National Championship.........

Anyone know who the top players in the NCAC are going to be this year both defensively and offensively? It seems to be wide open. What does each team have?

Wally---I'm looking forward to a trip to Stagg Field next year, since the Bell game is down there and I'm not about to pay for a ticket to support THAT institution. The field holds about 1600, which should be ample for the crowds. I'll miss the real Stagg Field, which was torn down to make room for a graduate library. When I was there in law school (1965-7), the north stands were still standing- a bit long in the tooth, but still impressive. I think the original held about 28-30 thousand in the glory days of Big Ten championships. The south stands, where Enrico Fermi et al. did their thing, were gone. Probably had to encase them in lead and drop them into Lake Michigan. U of Chi is a fantastic campus and well worth the trip.  :P

I'd betcha Darryl Kennon makes some serious noise in what amounts to his 5th year at Wabash-- that guy's a beast. Witt has a junior DL who made first team all-conf last year, as well. Lance Phillips. The frosh linebacker for Witt, McKinley, made 2nd team which is nothing to shrug at. Adi, for all he won, wasn't selected until he was a sophomore.

Anyway, having not seen most of these players it's hard for me to offer picks, though the ncac squad from last year suggests the cupboard isn't exactly bare.

I will venture that Carrol doesn't snag his 2nd straight POY award.

64- Forgive me if I am wrong but the Bell game is at Wabash this year unless there is a mistake on the schedule and Wabash and the other school is breaking the tradition of the home and away.

Forgive me for not being lucid. I was referring to the wabash-chicago game at Chicago next year, which is what Wally said. My reference to the Bell game was next year's game, but it looks as though I was thrashing about in the rank undergrowth of the English language.
Not to worry----the Monon bell clash in 2008 is at Wabash :-[

I just hope the '09 trip up to Chicago turns out better than my last two trips did...both were 2nd round hoops tourney losses to the Maroons.   :(

There's plenty of players to watch for in the NCAC this year.  The OPOY award winner is back as is the guy who had the best season on offense last year (they aren't the same guy).  Wooster's RB Sheppard is back, Witt's QB keeps getting better.  If the rumblings are true and OWU qb Steve Hymes is back, he's one to watch as well.

On D, BashDad hit the high points.  Kennon is a monster and I believe Wabash's other first team DL Bubba Lange took his medical redshirt and will be back this fall.  Witt's McKinley is really good and will be even better if he has matured any in the offseason.  Overall, it's going to be a fun year in the NCAC I believe.

Isn't Mckinley the Witt linebacker best known for his late hits last year ... including a late hit after the play ended to Wes Anderson's head?

Yup!! He also picked up an unsportsmanlike. Being petulant, I guess. I expect he figures since he's only 5' 9", 195 his late hits shouldn't count like those of the big guys. He's a talent, but he needs a better attitude.

The foul was called, geez.  Don't take it wrong, not condoning extracurriculars as the game should be played between the whistles, but that same attitude helped produce the turnover for a go ahead try if memory serves correct.

Maybe as further punishment the dining service should cook his steaks, heard good linebackers like their red meat on the hoof.   ;D The wife of my favorite Wally always gave me a hard time in high school for ordering steaks medium.  ;)

With a HS alma mater like McKinley's, maybe the chant will return.

Perhaps the Little Giants will remember McKinley's antics from last year's game.  My suprise was that it continued (and was permitted to continue) throughout the game ... either Witt coaches are blind .... or .....

Highly doubt the coaching staff promotes poor sportsmanship... if thats how the dangling Finding Forrester disjunction is to be read...

OR is that to say the referees should be in better charge of the game?

Was rather miffed by the amount of playing time for freshmen last season.  Would like to think maturity is not only part but parcel of the mix; alas even the great Nittany Lion head man now employs the wares of a few frosh.

As for the veiled threats wabco.  >:(

Guess am just in the minority.  Keep getting speared, rolled up, etcetera and just go back to the line and beat the guys ass within the rules.

Veiled threats???    Nah, just a personal observation of a coaching staff that either cannot control certain players on their team or choose not to control them during this specific game every year.  Sure, it's usually for a championship and very heated, but.....

How many games vs. Wabash have you seen them play......???

Referees are not there to control players, coaches are.

Have seen three games in the Wabash-Witt series.

And, yes it is the referees job to control the players; not that it isn't the coaching staffs' duty as well.

Is it the coaching staff(')s' obligation to police the institution's(') fans as well?

Haven't seen the last two years installments as have been trying to get out and see other conference teams play.

Was your player hurt on the play?  If the answer is in the affirmative that really adds to the magnitude of the infraction, if not...  then no blood, no foul save the fact a foul was called.

As for veiled threats, just as wabco's earlier statement had several logical tributaries, it appeared to this reader he was condoning fighting fire with fire, and really...  whether the game is or is not being played outside the whistles, that reading is shameful.  I'll retract and hope otherwise.  ::)

The Wabash player was injured on the play (concussion I believe).  He missed the remainder of the game and lost a week or two after that if memory serves.

But that's neither here nor there now.  It's 2008 and the page has been turned.
