This Purdue/Oregon thing is ridiculous.  Lots of fluky stuff going on here.  The stars may be aligning for Purdue to finally win an important game....lots of game left though.  The Ducks won't be held down all game.

Some NCAC Finals:

Kenyon 39, Chicago 36
Manchester 40, Earlham 7
Westminster 6, Allegheny 2

Looks like there should be some movement in the top ten rankings.  Wabash shoud benefit.  I believe Wabash has the talent and will be fine ... but they were ragged and penalty prone today.  I go back to what appears to be a Wabash tradition over three coaches now:  we can really stink up the gym for that first game.  Our scrimmage against Wheaton should provide some reason for confirmation and belief in our team.  BUT ... boy ... today, happy to win but very ugly.  The Big Red will have a good year and will supprise some people.  Granted we were very rusty ... but they took and worked and with the seniors they have will do well.

Now Kenyon beats Chicago.  Well, not sure I am happy with them coming next.  We need to get better and reconsentrate our focus ... not sure Kenyon and Chicago will give us that.  Gheny will.  Should make for a great Homecoming and Homecoming game.

I think the question of who will replace the Fab Four at wide receiver has been answered-Andrew, Kody and Wes. They looked promising to me in February and have rewarded my faith. But the hard hat D (now the yellow flag D) had best spend some time on their technique. Unreal!

If we do, it would probably be because of the Wesley loss. Without that loss I think we would drop based on this performance.

We really have to stop taking the bye in Week 1. We play a team that's played Week 1 every year while we're on our first game and it always results in a stinker. It's time for that to stop.

Too true, Li'l Giant. Open with Hiram or Earlham every year. That should do the trick.

I knew I could do it all along.  Thanks for believing in me.

Wes,

If anyone could make you look like a respectable receiver, it would be Hudson.   :)

Yet another baseball type final in this series...

I remember when this series was all about one of the best teams from DIII vs. one of the best teams from NAIA.  My freshman year at Westminster, Allegheny came in with the longest winning streak in all of football and both teams were coming off of National Championships.  Westminster beat the Gators and took over the nation's longest winning streak.

Oh how the mighty have fallen...   :-\

Great photos from the Wabash/Denison game on the Wabash site. The new white jerseys look great.

Denison's unis are a bit odd though. That weird striping on the rear of the pants looks like the guys leaned on a rail that had fresh paint.

New coach, new system, new sets and plays....getting the W is all that counts in that first game. A good team makes its greatest improvements from week one into week two.
The disconcerting thing about all the posts was the Wabash D. Last year, we didn't have all the penalties but we just couldn't put people away. Sounds like we have the same type of D, at least for the first game. Maybe it'll be like the last several years...we'll just score a lot more points than the opponents. I know it's a cliche...but it IS true...offense sells tickets, defense wins championships.
Maybe someone from the soccer team can kick for the football team?
Sounds like lots of challenges for ER. Go Wabash, Beat Chicago.

After having 24 hours to digest the season opener, I'm fairly pleased.  My primary concern about this season is how smoothly the team implements the new schemes.  The offense rolled up over 500 yards...that seems to be fine.  The defense did well up until the point where they made bad penalties.  Of the 13 penalties Wabash made yesterday, 8 happened on defense.  These mistakes are easily correctable...much more so than if the players aren't executing the new schemes properly.

Looking ahead to next week...we've got some interesting matchups.  Wash U. is coming to Witt, CWRU is going to play upset-minded Oberlin,  OWU's contender/pretender status will be determined against Wooster, and who knows...Hiram may have a chance to get to 2-0 against Kenyon.  Should be a good week.
