The #7 ranking is, I believe, a new highwater mark for Wabash in the D3football.com Top 25.  It's also the highest ranking achieved by an NCAC team since Wooster hit #6 in the final regular season poll in 2004.

Wittenberg picks up 10 points this week and is effectively #30.

Some other notes...

- Matt Hudson and his 6 TD passes have been awarded the NCAC OPotW.  Kenyon's Mason Stabler has been named the DPotW.

- With Saturday's win, Wabash head coach Erik Raeburn is now tied for 27th on the all time wins list at Wabash.   ;D

Speaking of "rank," is there any opportunity to request some increased "power" to the Real One Server?  Girlfriend emails aside, and I'll leave those verbal daliances to the announcers  ::) and their bosses, it was a frustrating Saturday of spotty before nonexistant coverage.  ???

The chance that there will be no LG fix prior to a Monon gathering in Atlanta is a painful thought.

Sounds like there was pretty high demand for Wabash internets media coverage Saturday afternoon.  Denison's radio stream was giving out by the end of the game as well or so I've been told.

This weekend should be much better...you'll have Wabash audio, Chicago audio, the video stream, and livestats to link on to.  Should be enough avenues to game coverage of some kind that people aren't left in the dark this week.

As for your Bell gathering in the ATL...unless somebody wipes out Mark Cuban's satellites, you should be able to enjoy that one in splendiferious high definition.   :)

Breaking News!!                           Breaking News!!
Sources from inside the Wabash athletics department are telling me that the College has struck a deal with Teamline to provide free audio coverage of all Wabash road games.  With Teamline on board, the problems with server overload and the resulting connection issues should be alleviated.  Expect an official announcement sometime this week.

Also congrats to the Wabash O line ... they provided a base for a run average 5 yards per carry, and with regards to OpotW Hudson, no sacks, one hurry.  In his blog, he describes that he has never felt as physically good (i.e. not at all bruized up) as after this game.  So OpotW - at least in my mind - shares the award with his line.  I am sure, even without asking him - based on his blog comments - he is in 100% agreement.

While we are at it ... congrats to a D line which held Barnes to 49 yards (from 247 or something like that last week).

That said, I believe D coasted a little in the 4th when the game was out of hand ... would not like to be reporting to Coach Gilbert on that one.  The penalties will go away.  We have the quality players and coaches to make that happen.

Improvements needed:  beyond GET THOSE PENALTIES GONE is more attention to D against the pass.

NFL to look into inadvertent whistle rule
3 hours, 5 minutes ago

Buzz Up PrintNEW YORK (TICKER) —A botched officiating call in Sunday's game between the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers has reached the NFL offices.

The league on Monday said it will look into changing the inadvertent whistle rule after the season following the Broncos' controversial 39-38 victory over the Chargers on Sunday.

The play stemmed from a non-fumble call against Denver quarterback Jay Cutler, who had the ball slip out of his hands while attempting a pass. The Chargers recovered with 1:14 left to seemingly lock up a 38-31 win.

But referee Ed Hochuli ruled the play dead after an inadvertent whistle and gave the ball back to the Broncos, who went ahead with a touchdown pass and two-point conversion with just 24 seconds to play.

Although Hochuli admitted the play was a fumble, he said the ruling on the field was an incomplete pass and that the replays rules in that instance do not allow the referees to award the ball to the other team.

Chargers coach Norv Turner termed the call "unacceptable," and the league acknowledged Hochuli made a mistake.

"Officials are held accountable for their calls. They are graded on every play of every game," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday. "Ed has been an outstanding official for many years, but he will be marked down for this call.

"Under our evaluation system, an official's grades impact his status for potentially working the playoffs and ultimately whether or not he is retained."

Does this mean we get a "do-over" on that whistle two years ago in the Witt game...That was a tough call

I know it is very early, but the Wabash offense put itself nicely on the national radar.

Wabash #7. Nice! I resolve to say nothing on this board that has anything to do with rankings. I do wish that d3.com would change the format a little: My eyebones are getting old and I have difficulty picking up the red lettering on the alternate dark grey stripes. REALLY dark grey. Grey is fine; red is fine, too, but not in combination.
Miraculously, I never lost the feed on Saturday, but missed out on a lot of the names of the Wabash defense who made tackles. The announcers were too tied up with their eMails. I say scrap the website & do the game. It reminded me of Harry Caray dropping the names of all his pals-- "restauranteurs"(read bartenders) and "prominent lawyers" (to fix all his OWI arrests).

Started linking around from there, bashbro... and found Witt is facing the nation's top kickoff return team in WasUStL.  The Bears seem to be a perennial 7-3 team with a few 6 and 4's peppered in there.  Am suspecting this team is the sleeper pick in the UAA this season.

Have noted two senior offensive linemen with what I call prototypical D3 builds for the Bears.  Add this to the fact their QB is already garnering some honors and the aforementioned return game having a recognized man and the makings are there for a good stern test.

Note WasUStL is also top 20 in total defense and number eight against the rush with 140 yards plus rushing per outing to their own credit.  This is a football team that is on the same page top to bottom with two excellent showings thus far.  Impressive scoreboards in their two early season wins, a shutout and a one-sided shootout.  Might discount that these are not wins against elite football programs, BUT have to give credit where it is due and a team can only play the opponents scheduled.

Props to the Purple Lords for representing well in the interconference scheduling agreement.  Wanted them to win this one, but didn't necessarily believe.

Love it when the conference steps up and does the unsuspected, the doubted...  had the Yeomen beaten W&J would say the unthinkable.  The Yeomen won't consider it an upset should they defeat Case.  Macleod will.

Washington should provide a strong test for Wittenberg...and for Wabash a little bit later in the year.  Wabash had an off and on series with Washington for some time and what I remember of those teams is that they were always pretty solid teams.  Not always with the best athletes, but they are very well coached and didn't make a lot of mistakes.  You had to go beat Washington because they weren't going to beat themselves.  It will take a good game to beat Washington.

Notables from Chicago last week vs. Kenyon:

Tommy Parks 153 yds rushing
Clay Wolff 129 yds receiving

Looks like these will be two to watch this Saturday.
