The Parks kid is from Crown Point H.S. (IN) and is very solid.  6'0 220 and hard nosed.  Sounds like they have a pretty good nose guard (All-UAA as a Sophomore) too so I am anxious to see him against our O-line.  Forecast looks great for game day and the field looks really, really good.

So, who is going to the Wabash Home Opener?  I know my wife and I and our eldest son (He's going in the Navy in November) will be there.  Looking forward to a great game and great weather to boot!!  I had a nice zucchini from this summer saved up, but it got buggy.... :(
Been rooting for Dear Old Wabash since 1976...

I hope the better question is who isn't going to Hollett on Saturday!  It would be great to see the parking lot fill up early and the home stands full on opening day.

I won't be missing it, that's for sure.  Tailgate preparations are underway...  ;)

The home opener is one of the most fun times.  Great weather day and seeing folks you haven't seen for a while ... along with the fun of Wabash football starting again ... Wabash style.

First time for the freshmen, freshmen parents,  as well as freshmen footballers to experience the Wabash community.  Fun behind the stadium with tailgates before the game ... which by the way, any of you purple maroons or whatever you Chicagoers call yourselves:  ... you are all welcome to stop by and partake of our victuals and libations. Wabash tailgaters are welcome to that as good hosts.

And no disrespect for Univ. of Chicago team ... but I hope we heap it on them early so that we get to the "all play" aspect of a home game for the strings other than 1 and 2.

BB 16 will, of course, be coaching his world champion 5th graders in some sort of world champion football game till just before kickoff ... so he will have some catching up to do.  BB16 reports the field to be in exemplary condition ... compliments of the rains of IKE and care by the grounds crew.

There will be better radio and audio streaming, as I am sure Brent has had the "you are sportscasters and not members of the View" conversation with the undergrads announcers and now he also adds video streaming.  All in all, a great Saturday on the horizon.

Be there or be square.

I think it's important to keep in mind that the student radio station on campus is just that...the student radio station.  It doesn't fall under the jurisdiction of the athletics department.  I only usually need the web stream once or twice per season, and after Saturday I think it's probably clear that the station could use some equipment upgrades in order to increase the quality of the broadcast for the many, many listeners that download the stream every week.  I'm sure that there are enough resources available amonsgst the vast alumni base that rely on the web stream for coverage to make this happen.

I agree with Wally that it is a student radio station, with all the pluses and minuses that brings.  And, as a result, the announcers are entitled to some slack.

However, having tried to listen to the game Saturday (until my connection and patience were both lost), I don't think it is unreasonable to expect more from the announcing team.  We have had some very talented student broadcasters cover Wabash football and basketball (as well as talented writers for the Bachelor).  At one time, in fact, there were even "tryouts" for the chance to be on the broadcast team (a simulated broadcast done to a game film that the Sports Director used to pick the broadcast team). As it was the first game and they have to get their feet underneath them as well, I will certainly give the announcers a break.  But, I don't think we are setting too high a standard to say that there is some room for improvement going forward.

This Saturday, St. Scholastica under the able leadsership of Head Football Coach Greg Carlson begins their first ever football game as a member is NCAA Div III against Wisconsin Lutheran.  While I do not wish the WL's any ill, I wish the best for Greg and St. Scholastica.  Greg:  teach them the Wabash tradition .... Wabash Always Fights.

Two ideas:
1) you may want to post on this web site for the conference St. Scholasatica is a member (Upper Midwest something or other ... in the West board) a supporting post; and
2) it would be neat (at least I think so) if just before the Wabash/Chicago game our announcers congratulated Greg and St. Scholastica and wished them well ... (hint hint ... encouraging emails today to Bambrey and/or Emmick and/or Harris and/or Amidon).

I wonder ... is the cheer :  Go Saintsor Go Scholars or just "don't step in the Ca?

DYK....

Chicago is one of only five schools Wabash has played more than once and never beaten?  The others are Cincinnati, Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota.

Historically, Chicago has crushed the Little Giants.  And I do mean historically.  Amos Alonzo Stagg coached two of the teams Wabash lost to and the last time these two teams met, Chicago was in the Big Ten.  The landscape is a little different now.   :)

Got a feeling it will be down to four schools by the end of the weekend.

Also have a feeling it will remain four schools for quite a while!

Huge game for the Bishops at Wooster.....they must shake-off the loss to CMU...
Soph QB Mike Fisher could be doubtful for the NCAC opener...
For OWU to have a shot at a conference crown....the Bishops can not lose this game.....

Wabash has announced its long-awaited plans to upgrade its outdoor facilities to match the high quality of its indoor facilities.  New playing surface for the football field, dedicated baseball and soccer facilities, new practice fields.  A first-rate plan that will be completed by the start of the 2009 academic year.

BashFan74 -

"DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"  How sweet will that be?

The baseball stadium looks incredible.  No more fastballs slamming off the wood backstop in Mud Hollow!   ;D

CC will be happy to know the endzones say Wabash and not Little Giants.  :)

Very impressive on all fronts.

Wabco - a few things missing bro that you can help with....we need a 2nd or NEW scoreboard for the football stadium (instant replay) and a completely NEW press box.  Can you make a few calls on those and have those added to the plans.

Seriously, everything looks awesome.  Now Allen will be surrounded by the same quality.
