One note from the Witt game is that Huffman went out with a shoulder injury in the third quarter. Hope he is ok.

Oof. Talk about a double whammy for Witt. Hope Huffman is okay. I'm sure the Tigers will rebound. They're a tough lot.

I don't mean to take anything away from Wooster's win, but what is going on in Delaware? There is nothing from these two games of theirs that indicates they'll win more than three games this year. And with Hiram and Kenyon putting up points like they have, three games may be a stretch.

To make things worse they play Witt next. Witt is going to be hoppin' mad as my granddaddy used to say. Any of you Bishops out there, I'd love to hear from you about what y'all think the problems and solutions are.

Wooster's defense is much much better than last year.  The coach I saw sceaming at everyone during the August practices must be Barringer.  Played at Michigan.  Must know what he is screaming about.  Wabash looks good so far, but Wooster will compete for title.  OWU offense looks as bad as I have ever seen it.  Maybe Hymes did not want to risk getting hurt again.  But they certainly could use him.  Their offense is so predictable.
And Hiram!!!!!!  Going to go to their website now for the first time ever!

Call me jaded, but I haven't seen near enough to predict anything about Woo other than the fact that they have to step up consistently through 4 quarters of play on both sides of the ball to make a run at anything, including Denison next week.

Kudos to the defense allowing only 2 field goals of scoring in 2 games (the 2 points today coming off of special teams, not the defense). They are stepping up and proving the point that it's hard to be defeated if you don't allow the other team to score.  ;D

If the offense had come out and looked similar to the offense that played at Waynesburg, I might be more willing to daydream about the possibilities. BUT, the offense today was pretty bad and downright difficult to watch without pulling my hair out. No doubt they have the potential, but they are going to have to bring it into play again starting with Denison and then we shall see what we shall see.

GO SCOTS!!!!

Congrats to those Terriers!!!! :)

Good for Hiram.....  Very cool story about a team that has seen so much defeat.   I would have loved to have been on that team bus heading back to Hiram today.

Good for them.

We left the game at halftime, it was 21-0.  Nice INT return for a TD.  It started thundering and they cleared the stands and put on a 30 minute lightning delay.  We had other things that we had to do so we went about our business.  The no huddle did it's job, the Maroons defense was not able to catch it's breath.  Defense had a few issues early with their run game but adjustments and injury to Parks made a big difference.  Was pretty good game to see and a good crowd there for our opener!!

Did the same.

Defense was impressive, as expected.

Penalties along the O-line are going to be the undoing of our boys against tougher competition.  Need to take care of that more than anything else.

Good to be back on campus - the sketches of the new outdoor facilities looked outstanding!  Get out the checkbooks, Gentlemen. ;D

Terrible Terrier

The Terriers are 2 and 0!!!!!!! Auntie Em throw my glass slippers away, please dont pinch me, and turn off the time machine. I know its early but please shhhhhhhhhhhh let me drink it all in!!!! The TERRIERS are 2 and freaking 0 8) ;D
The Terriers might not beat you on the football field, but we always leave our mark!

Great win for the Terriers - unbridled woofin' expected!  Hope it continues.  ;)

ScotLass,

I wasn't at the game, but I was just wondering if maybe OWU's defense might have had something to do with Wooster's offensive woes yesterday?  Or did Wooster just not look all that good offensively?

I will say, I wasn't expecting Wooster's defense to be a strong as they have shown through the first two games.  If the Scots can continue to play defense at this level, I don't see any reason not to think why they shouldn't be considered as contenders.

The answers to your two questions would be "no" and "yes". No to the OWU defense and yes to the Scots offense just looking bad.

I'm not trying to be a wet blanket here. BUT, I am also not ready to start printing the championship shirts either. I tend to be more of a reality based fan and that said, 2-0 is great but I do tend to look at the quality of that 2-0 in comparison to what's coming down the pike.

Sooooo, kudos to the defense, keep it up. BUT, the proof will be in the pudding when Woo has to face some teams like Washington, Witt, Wabash, Case......a wee bit of a different look than Waynesburg and OWU.

The offense has the potential because they showed it at Waynesburg and if they had brought the same execution to Papp yesterday, the score would have been a blowout and not still only 7-0 into the 4th quarter. The defense provided 6....count them, 6 takeaways to give the offense opportunities, 2 of which they capitalized on IN THE 4th quarter to finally break that 7-0 score.

I am going to chalk it up to having a bad day, but having a bad day against some teams coming up on the schedule is not going to result in challenging for anything. I don't even play a coach on TV but the game film from this one doesn't need to be saved for anything.....the defense was great, now let's work on pressuring the QB and offensively, we don't need film to fix....it was that basic......make good decision at scrimmage, don't force things into double coverage, catch the ball when it's in your hands, block your man and then look for somebody else to block, use timeouts wisely, watch the clock........let's put this one behind us, thank the defense and move on....lesson learned

GO SCOTS!!!!!!

ScotLass-keep it up. You have earned grid cred on this site many times over. Your candor is refreshing and should give us all motivation to be so.

Like many others, we left at halftime as well.  Aside from the obvious excitement about a convincing victory, my two concerns are:

1.  Too many illegal procedure penalties - again, didn't hurt us against Chicago - will hurt us eventually if not straightened out.

2.  Twice stuffed on running plays on 4th and 1 - see note above.

Looks like the defense showed significant improvement from Week 1 to Week 2, and the offense showed good balance, so I'm confident the team will continue to progress and improve as we get further along.

Black n Gold

Wooster had a bad game offensively, but also had some strong points.......The first drive Holter looked like he took over from where they left off in Waynesburg with a steller drive with a few crisp passes which ended up with 3 points due to a dropped pass in the corner of the endzone. I was glad to see Jordan Ferns back on the field and little Dajun Bush slashing through the D with 82 yards on just 11 carries. Holter and quite a few others looked out of shape, maybe some 5am morning conditioning could fix that? Hopefully Mike Franciscangeli will make it back soon as well as Cameron Daniels. I still believe this D is the real deal and will keep this team in games even on a down week. And as Scotlass has said, If we can play 4 full quarters of football......good things will come. As I said in a previous post, I will give props to the OWU defense for knocking some heads around. They were not afraid to hit, and sent some of our boys to the sidelines. Hopefully this week we can get back on track and play a full 4 quarters because this Denison team is no push over, they will score points. GO SCOTS!

I think we may be overreacting to the penalties thing.  13 penalties for almost 140 yards can understandably work up a froth.  Doing THAT against good teams, especially when those penalties negate turnovers, extend drives, and give the other team gratuitous 15-yard chunks of field will be devastating.  But this week that didn't happen.  8 penalties for 54 yards isn't crippling.  there's room for improvement for sure, but these things, especially the procedure penalties (keep in mind that these guys are running an entirely new offense, 100% no huddle) are things that are going to get better the more they play.  This was game 2 and I think the improvement from a week ago was significant.

Procedure penalties are going to happen.  They happen to everybody.  Mount Union was penalized for more yards this week than Wabash was...things seem to be calm in Alliance.

I'm taking it as a very, very good sign that annoying false start penalties is the thing that's bugging LG fans right now.  When I think about the laundry list of concerns that I had about a team adjusting to a new coaching staff, a new offense, and a new defense.....worrying about illegal procedure is a relief.   ;)

Well, you are right that if all we complain about is the penalties, but it still bugs me when o-linemen blow the snap count.  I come from a family of them so I know.   >:(The defense looked much better from the second series on.  And of course Parks then got hurt.  Adarkwa (at least on the radio) sounded like a young stud for Chicago.  The no huddle seemed good to go.  Watching the signs being waggled in was sometimes kind of hilarious.   It was also good for our younger players to get some game time in.  Hernly at QB sounds like a good backup.  Lots of good things from this win.  By the way, all you 'Bash tailgaters, who and what am I looking for out in the parking lot??????  I guess I should have asked BEFORE the game.  My wife, son and I will be at homecoming.  Might be bringing my mother in law, brother in law and his family as well.  (We have a C'ville wedding after the game.)  They've never been to the school so I can show it off a little.  LOL ;D
