Wally - did you see Brady Young's profile in the Wabash game preview this week?  Impressive.  Should get more touches this week too.

Brady had a really good game after stepping in for Graham last week.  I was definitely impressed.  I'm constantly amazed at the depth Wabash has at receiver.  Add Brady Young to the long list of capable Wabash receivers.

The best part is that this new group of players are all young.  Of the 80 receptions that Wabash has as a team, 54 of them have been caught by freshmen or sophomores.  This well isn't drying up anytime soon.

This is interesting...Oberlin claims to lead the series vs. Chicago 6-4-1.  Chicago claims that the series is tied 5-5.  These are smart people at these schools.  How does this happen?  Time to investigate....  :)

As has been noted, Wabash on this board is like Wooster on the NCAC hoops board.

Having been away from Indiana for over a year, I can tell that the Kool Aid isn't as strong for me. I've discovered other things in life to be concered about - such as spending Saturday mornings with my daughter's soccer team,  trying to get an internet connection to work in rural Ohio, and making sure that if I'm in a Delta or Continental club in an airport I grab some of the biscottis and put them in my briefcase, or why the heck the Philadelphia Avis is so horrific.

Wally, I bet there's a disputed forfeit or something. The funny thing is that Oberlin has one extra game. Hmmm...

Having just been on the Oberlin campus recently, I can assure you that no one there is staying up nights over it. I can also assure you that Oberlin students are the most reckless bicyclists in higher education.

And I have answers...

The extra game comes from a game allegedly played in 1944.  This was after Chicago had discontinued football, so I'm not sure how this game actually happened.  But Oberlin claims the game happened (and they lost 25-0...to a team from a school that wasn't supporting a football program...ouch) so I'll count it even if UC doesn't want to.   :)

As for the accounting problem...the scores and results reported in Oberlin's media guide leave the series, including the 1944 game, at 6-5 in favor of Chicago.  You're right that the differences probably come from disputed forfeits or some such thing, but no asterisks or any other mention of that is mentioned in the media guide.

Yep...it's a slow day at work.

I don't know if it's related to proximity. We all have our priorties. Being single with no children spending a Saturday afternoon following Wabash's football team isn't really putting me out.

I think the "kool aid" thing we're talking about isn't the problem here. The real problem is some folks have a tendency to say stuff on message boards that makes them look like tools. That's not a result of the "kool aid"; that's a character flaw unaffected by team affiliation. There's some on every single message board I frequent.

There's a really cool story featured on the front page about the Carleton/St. Olaf game.  If you're like me and like to read about the traditions that go along with some of small college's rivalry games, you'll enjoy reading about The Walk after the Carleton/St. Olaf game.  Fun, fun stuff.

Thanks. :)

Quote from: wally_wabash on October 09, 2008, 02:14:14 AMThis conversation probably doesn't happen if Wooster won by the 30 points that they should have last weekend.

My part of the recent conversation really had nothing to do with points or performance, it had more to do with remarks that are right up there with things like.....I don't know.....somebody being idiotic enough to spit on their opponents field.

Mostly I'm just bitter that my spread looked so bad on this game.   :)

I was away for a long time and missed any posting on this subject (if there were any).  Are there any Witt people on her who can give me some info on Wash U?  I know this is looking ahead, but as I don't play, I can afford to do that.  I plan to attend the Wash U. game next week and would appreciate any insight on the team.

Thanks.

Case will BLAST Wooster this weekend.  Count on it.

I can't believe no one has voiced stronger concerns about last week's game against Earlham...needing a late fieldgoal to win the game??  Earlham!!!  Seriously.  In Earlham's first 3 games (all losses) they had given up 42 (Rose), 40 (Manchester), and 47 (Anderson).  They hold the Scots to 16!!!  Earlham had lost their 2 previous games by a whopping 87-21.  On top of all of this, the game was at the Papp??

In looking at the NCAC statistics, Woo doesn't jump out (on either side of the ball)...given their schedule to this point in the season, they should.

...just my 2 cents.
Seriously, was this really necessary???  And what would you like to see from all of the Wooster posters in their voicing of concerns over the near catastrophe that was avoided against The EC last Saturday???  It seems to me ScotLass wrote a pretty insightful post about her concerns about that game and this Wooster team as a whole back on page 826 in case you missed it #16!

Obviously as fans of Wooster, there are concerns surrounding last weekend's squeaker over The EC!  What good is it going to do to rehash all of the negatives surrounding that game???  I would rather dwell on the positives which include the defense and the fact that the Scots are still 4-0!  I would rather HOPE that game was a case of Wooster looking ahead to their rivalry game with Case this Saturday as opposed to dwelling on everything the Scots did wrong!  We shall see what was really the case on Saturday in Cleveland...

I just don't get what is accomplished by some (not all) of you Bash supporters making statements like Case will BLAST Wooster or Wabash will monkeystomp Wooster, etc.  Especially when no one from Wooster was making any predictions out of the ordinary?!  And especially considering that I don't seem to recall seeing anything but well wishes for Wabash as they entered the post-season last year hoping that they could represent the conference well.  And I certainly don't recall any non-Wabash supporters making predictions that Whitewater was going to monkeystomp  or BLAST Wabash!!!

I just think those sorts of comments are a bit uncalled for especially when they weren't even provoked in any way shape or form!

You know, people who actually do critical thinking would realize that comparing scores, or even stats, is a fools errand.

Earlham may have matched up well against Wooster in many aspects. Injuries (minor / unreported or major) may have taken a toll, or affected Earlham in games before.

I remember the score: Benedictine 22, Wabash 18. That's all I need to keep in mind before denigrating a team based on its past performances.

Thanks for dredging up that nightmare...if memory serves, that game happened two weeks after Wabash lost their #1 qb and their #1 receiver to knee inuries (on consecutive plays no less).  Benedictine hit on two giant plays for well over 80 yards each (didin't get much of anything the rest of the game) and Wabash's (literally) crippled offense just couldn't get it going.  There is some context to that game.  Let us never speak of it again.   :)

Maybe Earlham had the most constructive off week in history and has turned the corner.  We'll find out over the next couple of weeks.  What I do know is that the list of teams that have lost to Earlham or beaten Earlham by 3 points or less at home since 2002 is: Oberlin, Hiram, Kenyon, and now Wooster.  As a subscriber to Occam's Razor, it's easier for me to believe that the team that needed a late field goal to beat a team that doesn't have enough players for a full travel squad and couldn't be competitive with Anderson and Manchester maybe isn't as good as we thought they were than it is for me to believe that said undermanned, noncompetitve team just flipped the switch and got really good in the last 14 days.

With all of that being said, Earlham has a chance to prove that they have turned a corner this weekend at Witt, which I hope they do.  Wooster also has a chance to prove to everybody that last week was a fluke, which I hope they do as well.  I'm not counting on either happening, but I hope it does.

Kid:

In years past, I would say Denison would win against the terribles.  However, given Hiram's success this year, I don't know what to think.  Having seen Denison this year, and seeing that Hiram is actually winning, I think it will be a good game.  Then again, I haven't had an opportunity to look at the teams Hiram beat (other than being familiar with Kenyon).  It would be nice to see Hiram start to compete in the league.

Speaking of depth at WR for Wabash:

Ryan Kerney #7 a junior is out injured.

Coming into this year, he had a real shot at being one of the top 4 WR's on this roster.  Has really played well last two years on JV.  Big Target with great hands and leaping ability and enough speed to get deep.  Has been out with stress fracture in pelvis.

Spoke to him this week at Homecomeing.  Gets MRI in 2 weeks and hopes to be back then.  Don't know if after this much time out how well he will be able to work himself into the rotation but without the injury, I think he definitely would have been in the rotation and one of our top 4 WR's.
