And Wes ... the Dannies WILL COME TO PLAY.  There is danger when one team has nothing to play for exept opportunity to cause the other embarrassement and for pride ... things like "play 4 down football" in unorthodox positions, toy plays, and the like.

Over the years, both teams have done this ... to good effect.  The favored team has ... in far too significant percentages ... come up short.  Last year was a good example:  the Dannies came to play and for whatever reason Wabash did not bring their "A" game or "A" head.  A Player or two tend to have the performance of their life, whether a tip catch of a 50 yard pass or a field goal way beyond their "distance".  Great in number and volume supporting fans.

The improvement over the last few years at Wabash (DePauw seems still mired in the past in this regard) is that the administration is understanding that today attendees tend NOT to do stupid things as fans ... and hopefully with the new Wabash AD, he will accelerate this trend toward less rather than greater Gestapo presence (especially since they are generally poorly trained in crowd events).

The Wabash tailgate will start as early as Thursday eve ... for sure on Friday ... I can smell the foods cooking now.  Bring it on.  Every team player get well and play, no injuries, great tilgates, great crowd support.  FUN   Wabash verses DePauw ... and may the best team that day ... Wabash, of course, win.

WOW   The Warhawks lost to UW St.-Point.  What does that do for the rankings and the playoff positions?

The WIAC is a certifiable mess right now.  And with the traditional western powers in the MIAC and the IIAC also having down years, the possibility of an undefeated CCIW champion going west seems to be a lot higher now than it was a handful of hours ago.

We'll have to see how everything shakes out when the regional rankings come out this week.

As far as poll positions go....I think you've got to believe pretty strongly that UWW will fall out of the top 5 and the other teams that won today will move up a spot.  My guess is that Wabash will land at #5 when the poll is released tomorrow night.

Interesting side note.....
Wash U. Bears have 7 players from
Ohio....2 from the Delaware area.....
After reviewing the LG posts & boxscore,
I am thanking the NCAC braintrust for
not scheduling the LG's versus OWU.

Here is a thought ... Witt could very well be a third place team in our conference this year.  Now that must be a suprise over there.  I think (based upon Wabash experience with both) Woo will wip Witt. (Also known as the "4W" event.)

That's the Witt defense have been waiting to hear from.  Five turnovers is a solid outing and the rush numbers look stifling.

Will get the other extreme this week in the CMU Tartan, run first, run often offense.

CMU rushes the ball fifty-six times for 250 yards.  At first glance this looks like a ton of yardage.  Then the net rushing comes across the board at 200 and the sting is mitigated.

Quite a few runs for double digit yardage, but 50 yards tackled for loss indicate a ball club doing two things: playing aggressive yet assignment football complemented with some... dare I say... nah! will withhold... let's just say group hugging and eleven men to the football.

You have to play assignment football against the wing-t, absolute must.  Considering the pass numbers for the Tartans there were no false pretenses regarding their intentions and M.O.

Looks like Mary Hardin-Baylor may lose as well, albeit to Southern Oregon, which isn't D3.  What impact will that have on the poll?

No effect whatsoever on UMHB's stranglehold on the #1 seed in the south as the game is non-divisional.  The pollsters will probably ding the Crusaders a bit as SOU is only 2-5 and has lost already to two D-III teams (Linfield and Willamette).

How big are the stones on the UW-Stevens Point coach?  Going for 2 for the win at the Perk!  What a call.

And it's final in Ashalnd, OR.  Southern Oregon 40, UMHB 28.  That's a pretty big upset.

Or how about Trine . . . rallies in the 4th quarter from down 14 late to Kalamazoo, kicks the PAT that would have sent it to overtime, takes that point off the board on a K'zoo penalty, then goes for 2 for the win 36-35.  Wow!

And a shout out to Li'l Giant --- thanks for the text updates.  I could only watch the first quarter today due to other commitments.
Long shall we sing thy praises, Old Wabash

Congrats to Witt on their victory over Carnegie Mellon and Denison over Chicago. After seeing Woo today...Witt is going to have their hands full. That Holter is the real deal...and may be the best offensive athlete in the conference.
Great win for Wabash.
It was posted earlier...but Witt and to a much greater extent Woo, have found the weakness of the cover 2 defense. Holter just killed us all day with slants and passes down the seam over the middle in front of our safties. But...the D came through with the turnovers when needed...and Slack's interception return for a touchdown was huge.
Two more conference games for the championship and then the Bell.

Looks like UW-W, Mary Hardin and Wheaton have lost or will lose.  Where does that put Wabash, North Central ...?  Is Wabash 5th, 4th, even 3rd?  What does this do with playoff power ratings?

Wabash Plays Oberlin and Hiram ... neither will be a factor.  Assume wins with enough points/dominance exhibited.  Assume a win over DePauw.  Any thoughts? Educated observations?

Not knowing which teams may get sent where, I'll pass on the playoff seedings.

Wheaton just got a TD, but still trails 37-14 near the end of the third.  Wabash (and presumably NCC) should pass UWW and UMHB.  #5 Muhlenberg struggled to beat a very mediocre Franklin and Marshall, and looks ready to be jumped.  Wabash downed a very solid Wooster by 21, but NCC currently leads a much better Wheaton by 23 (and only trailed Wabash by 18 points in the previous poll).  Barring drastic change in the 4th quarter of the NCC/Wheaton game, I'll stick my neck out with Mount being now unanimously #1, and NCC just edging Wabash (and Muhlenberg) for #2.

Mr. Ypsi

Immediately previous post may be rendered inoperative!  Wheaton just scored again, trailing 37-21 with 12:48 to go.
