Who cares ???

We (MUC & Bash) can resume this conversation if and when the two teams meet somewhere down the road.  I would welcome the opportunity to see Uncle vs. Nephew #1.

A number of positive posts concerning Wabash fans were posted by Whitewater fans lat year.  Maybe Wabash fans are best served frozen.   ;D

So MUC fans are no different from Wabash fans.  Got it.

but the rep Wabash has earned around D3 is not being cocky, but rather rude, obnoxious, and vulgar as a whole.

And this is the problem...no doubt Wabash has some fans that fit this description.  I don't care for obnoxious and vulgar stuff any more than you all do.  But again, that's 2% of our fans.  Mount Union and every other school in the world has those same 2% of fans that unfortunately don't know where the line is.  I'm reminded of something about glass houses and rocks...

In my years of following Wabash athletics I've seen fans from dozens and dozens of schools...both fans that are visiting Wabash for a contest and fans at their home stadiums when Wabash is on the road.  Without exception, the fans of these teams that Wabash plays know just one thing about the College and that is that the College is an all-male institution.  That's all the ammunition the hecklers from the other schools need.  At every place I've ever gone to while watching a Wabash contest, I have heard or been directly taunted with the obvious and every conceivable derivative thereof.  Believe me, I have heard it all, and nearly all of it is positively shameful.  These fans exist everywhere (yes, even in your own alma maters or favorite school of choice)...they aren't going anywhere.  I'm not condoning the behavior, but there is very little that can really be done about it.  I don't like a guy in a Wabash sweatshirt yelling vulgarities at the other team every bit as much as I don't like having vulgarities yelled at me by another team's fans.  But those fans, both mine and yours, are going to yell whatever it is that they're going to yell whether I want them to or not.  It's easiest to just ignore it and enjoy your game...otherwise you'll never enjoy these games which is a terrible waste.

Man it was brutal by haltime.... in every way!!!

Still it was a fun trip and a very cool stadium.  Going to games like that (and MUC in '02 and CWR last year and this year) are a huge treat for me.  I enjoy the opportunity to travel to a new place and see a team and locale and fans that I would otherwise not see during the course of a regular season.

A memory for me as I was driving toward the UWW game as the snow began to fall was the sight of a Jeep pulling out ahead of me with a dead deer tied to the top.  Its cold dead eyes were staring at me, and its tongue was hanging out.  Priceless!!!   Needless to say, I snapped a photo to show the wife and kids later.

So is Case Field going to be packed Saturday?  Last year, I had no problem getting a ticket and a seat about 40 minutes before kickoff.  Do a lot of students watch the game from the residence halls there?

Let's not try to turn Football into watching the PGA or a Tennis match.

The fact of the matter is that we are dealing with mostly 18-24 year-old kids. (or in my case quite a bit older  ;))  And I doubt any successful program at any level can point their finger at anyone else....because with winning comes the fans, comes the passion, comes the small percentage that offend.

Otter: Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests - we did.

Otter: But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

cwru70: My "wish" is that Battling Bishop football can be a championship caliber program. Will Delaware get "hit"....The odds tell me probably not. The staus quo has been accepted about the program for way to long...mediocrity has settled-in. Until there is total commitment into football at OWU....not much will change. Every program has it's dark days....Case had them in the old PAC, Mount had them too....The last 3 years at Wesleyan have been unacceptable. But, 70, could you imagine saying good-bye to the D3 Playoffs & going back to those old days of Spartan football? There were many factors in the success in CWRU football...was a coaching change part of that? They say timing is everything....and will it come to Bishop football? I won't be checking the Delaware Gazette anytime soon.

I would, too. Let's see what we can do about that.  :D

Again, the problem with Wabash was not the fans in the stands.  It was their cheerleaders on the sidelines.   Not sure which one of the newspapers said it (Review or Rep), but they described the Wabash cheerleaders as "a cross between carnival barkers and candy stripers that spent more time heckling the opposing fans then leading their own".

When the vulgar behavior comes from the organized team representative, it's different.    If the MUC cheerleaders come over and flip the bird to the RMC fans this weekend, then I'll change my tune.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Anytime you can work in references to Animal House, it's a good day.
They should have practiced harder.

Woo did.  Thus no national chapters.

Last year my wife and I attended the Wabash/CWRU playoff game in University circle. Although being a CWRU grad grad, we had to sit amongst the Wabash followers. We encountered no disrespectful fans and that game gave me a new insight into DIII FB. Enjoyed watching true student athletes playing for the fun of it. I still think that CWRU should be the Rough Cats or the Red Riders.

The Sphinx Club is not a traditional cheerleading group.  Their role at Wabash goes well beyond doing front handsprings and helping the crowd spell out V-I-C-T-O-R-Y.  The things they do on the sidelines aren't going to be what you're used to seeing...because it's a different kind of group.

Those guys who are front and center at these games get the most attention, and they should be mindful of that when they speak/yell/cheer/gesture and for the most part I think they are.  I do sincerely believe that a lot of this stuff that is being dredged up has all but ceased, especially from the guys in the Club (at least I haven't been seeing it in a long, long time). Again, I agree wholeheartedly that there is not any place for yelling obscenities and producing obscene gestures at these games...but how much of that behavior that has peeved you all off from that one Saturday afternoon six years ago was provoked by the 2% of lubed up MUC students that were doing their own fair share of "barking"?  How much of the stuff that you saw came as a response to those lubed up MUC students taking shots at the silly guys with the silly hats and the silly overalls from the all-guys school?  Again, I don't think that retaliation is a valid reason to be busting out the bird or shouting out any of the seven words that you're not supposed to say, but when we're talking about very proud college aged kids who are having a full blown testoserone-off with the very proud MUC student section, you can see how things might get R-rated in a hurry.  This is/was a case where nobody was right and everybody was wrong.  I would hope that we can at least agree to that to some degree.

You ought to go again this year. It will be good for your soul.

Animal House? Apparently, at Ohio Wesleyan, "they took the whole #***# bar" from Phi Gamma Delta. They're gone from campus. Aggressive alumni are posturing for a new colony in a few years. They use to be a campus leader with many grid player/brothers.
