We should ask Dan Whalen if he thinks Kennon is the best defensive player on Wabash's team.  He's still running from #11.

Kennon is manimal.  Plain and simple.  Lange is also a beast, but step 1 for anybody's offense vs. Wabash this year was to block Kennon.  Lange, Whyde, and Gangloff all had good seasons and benefitted greatly from the attention that DK drew.  When DK couldn't get to the qb, he was knocking passes down.  This is kind of a sick stat...DK's 6 pass breakups are good enough to lead 7 teams in the NCAC and are good enough to be 1st or 2nd on EVERY team in the NCAC.  From the DT position.  That's just nasty.  He's plenty deserving of the award.

That is a crazy stat. He does do a good job of getting his hands up when he doesn't get great pressure. Don't get me wrong, Kennon is a heck of an athlete- his vertical must be crazy, seeing how high he got to knock down passes against Woo...but I know for a fact that Wooster's #1 concern was Lange, and I can't ignore stats in this situation, he was better than Kennon in every category but pass breakups and fumble recoveries- I didn't see the games, so its all ive got to go off of..I need to add that Lange had more sacks/ TFLs in the Case-Bash game stat book to boot, so ask Whalen if you really want :)

You can't ignore DeGrand's impact this year though, leading the conference with 113 tackles (also leading in solos with 45), 9.5 TFLs, 3.5 Sacks...good for first or second on the team in all of those categories, AND he added 3 picks for 56 yards. In terms of both stats and as a single player's impact on his team, I don't know how you argue against him.

FightinScot,

Degrand is a very good player.  In fact, I think I complimented him after the Wabash/Wooster game.  Very good closing speed and fun to watch.  However, I don't feel like he ever took over the game nor dominated segments.  DK did throughout the entire season - no matter the opponent.  Ask Coach Finchum about the opening of the 2nd half.  He simply took over.  I haven't seen this since Blair Hammer used to go crazy.

I still can't believe Schmitz wins the Coach-of-the-Year over Erik Raeburn.  7-0 in conference, brand new staff, brand new systems, etc.  I just think that is odd he doesn't get the nod.

By the way...could be used in both arguments...

Final Score
Wabash 45
Wooster 24

Archived audio of the game on Saturday.   Forward the coverage to about the 2:50:00 point and hear Brent Harris almost jump out of the booth.  Great moment for a "Great" broadcast team.

Congrats to the four Battling Bishops that were named All-NCAC.
One Jr, Rylan Mitter-Burke (1st Team) & four Sr's.
Mitter-Burke had 4 INT's & had 70 tackle (2nd on team).
With such a dismal season, these Bishops stood-out.

Everyone probably knows this (I just looked at them)....DePauw has the Bell photos...some very outstanding...Go the schedule & click on the wabash game....I am sure all you LG's have already been there.

Going back to the discussion about DK and Lange.  One thing that the stats don't show is that a lot of those sacks and TFL's that Lange picked up are due him picking up what was left from the damage Dk did.  On a lot of those Lange was mopping up and getting the sack or TFL that was caused by the havoc caused by DK.

That was especially the case this week against CWRU.  Lange played great don't get me wrong but DK was the main one putting initial pressure on Whalen and when he would scramble to get away from DK he would run into Lange.  Same thing happened with running plays.  DK was getting great penetration blowing up the initial play which left Lange in position to pick up the tackle.

That is why I think Lange had better statistics but DK is the bigger force.  A lot of the damage done by DK doesn't show up in stats.

It might take a week or two to get on Case's YouTube channel.  If you know anyone with a satelite package that includes SportsTimeOhio, the game is being re-broadcast at 9 tonight.

Thanks for the tip - just got done watching it.  Calderone was a one-man wrecking crew, especially late.  Odd dynamic watching the smiles of the kids on the Case sidelines after they took the lead, which (unbeknownst to them) wouldn't last very long.  I also did not know that the TD by Chamblee was his first of the season.  He picked the right time to step up!

Thanks, but no thanks eagle.   :)

All truth here...I had the 2007 game on my dvr for about nine months.  I deleted it right before this season started.  I planned on watching it again because it was a phenomenal game.  And planned on it...and planned on it.  Never could pull the trigger.  I've never seen that field goal that Havercamp hit.  I couldn't watch it when it happened and then when somebody told me that it was on Sportscenter that night, I avoided Sportscenter for 48 hours just to make sure it cleared the cycle.  I know bashbro has watched this year's game multiple times.  I probably never will...in fact, the only footage from this year's game that I saw post facto were the few highlights that ESPN News showed during the selection show.  Watching Wabash lose Bell games is hard enough the first time around.  ;)

The collector in me will buy the DVD, but I'll be darned if I ever put that thing in the DVD player.

Sorry guys....I should know better. Even after all these years, I am still learning. (Ex: Some women from DePauw: Ok....Men:NO!).

I don't even buy the DVD from the years we lose. It's childish, I know. But Wally is right; it's painful enough in real time.  ;)

This year's game is still on the DVR but I'm going to have to remedy that soon. I'll never watch it again.

I still have the 2005 game on my DVR at home. (Side note: I loved Harbaugh's interview after that game (which is edited in the DVD version). In the full version it's obvious how much he gave in that game and how excited he was to be 10-0 and going to the playoffs. Maybe we should show that interview to the seniors before next year's Bell Game if we're fortunate enough to be 9-0 again.)

I also have the 2005 and 2006 Rose Bowls on that DVR as well. Hook 'em.  ;)

Looking forward to a great football game Saturday!  Will have my boys and be hanging with #16 and Dickison. I sure hope we put more than 1500 in Hollet Stadium.

Wally & Co. -

Agree on the Bell games...that is so funny because it sounds like we are all on the same page.  I Ti'vo'd it and have watched bits and pieces but that is it.  I do want to mention a really cool feature on Brock Graham late in the half time regarding the Spring Break mission trip he and a bunch of guys took.  Its a great piece.  (Thank goodness for fast forward!).  The quality of the broadcast and the HD was "off the charts" impressive.

Hoping Bash can get some key guys back this week who did not play at Case.

Hearing more and more that will be at the game on Saturday.

Believe me, even though I say I watched it 4 times, It only took me about 10 minutes to watch most of it each time.  Fast forward button was worn out.

Li'l Giant - you had to bring up 2005  ;)  That team was very close to breaking through.   Lost to Cap 14-11...(#3 hide your eyes, we should have won it  ;)) then Cap lost to Mount Union the next week,  34-31.  Could have been one of Wabash's best all-around teams ever.

BB16 - Looking forward to Saturday.  The LG's looked more like themselves at the end of the Case game.  Got to "get her done" this weekend.

Congrats to DK on being the NCAC Defensive Player of the Year.  Congrats to Lange as well.  Having a great pair of d lineman makes it a lot harder on the opponents.  You can double or triple one guy, but with thunder and lightening, you slow one guy down and the other is there to get you.  The other d linemen are pretty good also which doesn't hurt.
