Thanks for the nod about the other sports mentioned in the post, but Pat is right.

We all come to the table as D-III's.  In most ways, D-III is the most egalitarian collegiate athletic experience that we have.

Best of the holidays to all. Be careful and enjoy

Good article in today's Baltimore Sun paper about the new head football coach at Stevenson University and his recruiting efforts. In the article he stays that because of lower tuition costs he feels that he may be able to get some of the student-athletes that would go to Hopkins or McDaniels. I really don't think that his efforts will take away from Hopkins, because they really don't have that many local players on their team. But, seeing as their location is fairly close to Carroll County, they may take a few recruits away from McDaniels. Being in the CC should keep McDaniel as the preferred choice over playing an independent schedule, but we'll see in time.

I'm not really sure if people check the boards over the winter months since this is my first year posting, but I am curious what people see as needs in recruiting for the various CC teams. What does Hopkins have at running back to replace Kase? Who will take over the offense for Dickinson now that Mitchell is gone? Does F&M have play makers to replace Eager? Will Muhlenberg or Moravian make it back toward the top half? Does Gettysburg have a replacement for Flynn? Will any of the other teams be in the running for the top spot? How will Susquehanna's addition play into the mix? Just thought these might be some things to keep the board going a little over these cold winter months if people do actually check these boards.

As far as Hopkins running game, who knows, maybe they'll be able to recruit a big 225 lb. freshmen to take the place of Kase, but unless they do, they will have to alter their running game. Rigaud has real good speed and can be gone if he gets around the outside corner. He will be a Sophmore and will probably be the main running attack. He only weighs in at 165 lb. Being young, he'll probably put on some weight, but hopefully not so much that it will affect his speed.  The other two reserve running backs are also light weights, O'Connor and Fazio, at 175 and 185 lb's respectively. They can  be effective between the tackles. Also look for more use of Porco, (the running QB).

Dickinson doesn't lose alot in terms of sheer numbers but they do lose IMPACT players on both sides of the ball. On Offense they need to replace Mitchell & O'Connor( both future Dickinson Hall of Famers) and on Defense they lose their leader ( Maxwell). If they find a replacement at QB for Mitchell, they should be competative again in 2010.

Easier said than done! Mitchell was the heart and soul of that offense his entire career

Unless Moravian has an extremely good recruiting class or there are some players that seriously improve in the off season it is hard to see them near the top next year. No proven QB, Rempe graduated. I believe they have a good amount of their defense back which was decent this year even though the numbers didn't look like it some games but the offense didn't give them much of a chance.

Muhlenberg looked like they may have found their QB toward the end of last year and had a strong year out of the freshman RB. I could see them being back in the mix.

If I had to choose a team right now to win the conference I think it would be between F&M and Hopkins and I'd give the slight edge to F&M because I think Harrison is the best QB in the conference hands down.

Who would you guys choose? Being as objective as possible! If that is even possible haha

New Poster here--great board, lot of good football talk, and no personal agendas--a pleasure to read.

Anyway, I saw several CC games last fall and my two bits would be (in no particular order):

1) Dickinson's Mitchell will be a HUGE hole to fill. Some good players still left (the FB is a horse, and they had some good DBs and LBs) but in that offense, the QB is everything. The coaching staff seems to inspire a lot of devotion in their players, which goes a long way.

2) Muhlenberg-- tough team, young last year, they bring a bit more feisty attitude than the other CC teams I saw which will serve them well, I think, as they try to prove that '09 was an aberration.

3) F & M -- for my money, they're the favorite. Finished strong in '09, excellent QB, the momentum is all in their favor in 2010.

4) Gettysburg -- a goodly number of players returning but Flynn is a major loss, no doubt. But biggest issue with Gettysburg is intangible stuff -- they had a lot of talent this year and got worse with each game, losing spirit and resiliency as the season progressed. It's two years in a row now that the Bullets have had the #1 offense in the CC and the #10 defense. Seems to me some changes are in order.

5) Hopkins -- AWESOME season in '09. Loved rooting for them. But I'm not sure it's a program that can sustain that high level two years running. We'll see.

6) Susquehanna -- pretty good program, from what I understand. Really nice stadium and field, if you haven't seen it. Should be an excellent addition to the CC.

Anyway, forgive any ignorance I've shown here. Just a fan really. Take care.

Agree, on paper right now, without knowing what recruits are coming in, I'd say the DIPS will go into the 2010 season as the CC favorite.

But I'd guess that very few incoming freshmen will make a difference. It's probably only half-a-dozen or so across the league that even get significant varsity playing time, much less make an impact. I know there are talented exceptions, but as a rule . . .

Yes, very few Freshman seem to play, BUT that is why F&M will have an advantage next year. Their QB has started since his Freshman year and they had an outstanding season in 2009 playing with a fairly young team. But in most cases very few Freshman have made an impact in this league over the past few years. There is a big difference at any level between an 18 year old playing against 21 or 22 year old young men. Most players need a year in the college system and a year or two in the weight room.
