I will assume that you are a coach, since you are watching film with a play-by-play. As a coach, I am certain that you are aware that the Conference allows for coaches (with the benefit of a tight shot from the endzone and press box, and a wide shot from the pressbox, as well as a clicker in both directions) the opportunity to make changes to stats through SIDs, particularly in the area in question.

Is this true, really? Because the NCAA does NOT allow this. In fact, it specifically prohibits postgame adjustments to tackles.

Sorry Pat, but it absolutely does not prohibit correction in the case of obvious errors or misidentified players. The spirit of the rule is to prevent is wholesale changes at the discretion of coaches. Since most SIDs lack the time to sit around and rewatch games, the people who alert us to these obvious errors are the people who do - coaches.

Taken directly from the NCAA manual in the tackles section...

QuoteThis policy does not preclude a conference or institution from making after-the-game changes to press-box statistics. This is consistent with existing NCAA policies involving corrections to any offensive statistics after a contest. Any changes to press-box statistics must be obvious errors, such as misidentified players, and should not be interpreted as a way for pressbox statistics to be later "updated" by the coaching films.

If a coach from an opposing institution's coach asks his SID to request a change in a game I scored because a 38 looked like an 88 from where I was sitting, but 88 was on the sideline not dressed... well, your reading of the spirit of the rule means tough stuff for 38.

I see. However, I think anyone other than an SID reading your Feb. 28 post would have assumed my interpretation rather than yours.

What's going on at MacDaniel? I heard that several coaches left and that the best d-lineman (Catucci?) quit. Anyone know the deal?

A note for those of you who follow Johns Hopkins U and the Naval Academy sports...
Colby Umbrell who played football for Johns Hopkins in the ealry 2000's was killed in Iraq on Thursday. He was on he was from Doylestown Pa.
Travis Manion a standout wrestler at the Naval Academy was also killed this week in Iraq and was also from Doylestown Pa.
Both were excellent athletes and particapted in multiple sports in high school. Both also were very involved in helping the children in Iraq.

From the Hill in Westminster...

D-Cordinator, Brad Fordyce will be leaving the Terror for the same position at Susquehana.

I don't think this is just a rumor either.  This could spell trouble for an already struggling Green Terror unit.  The defense has been the lone bright spot in the past few seasons, and that could truely be in a great deal of trouble without Fordyce there.

Fordyce is an outstanding coach.  He really deserves a head coaching position.  I know a lot of people on the Hill were hoping he'd take over for Keating in the near future.

Coach Fordyce was a good coach and its a shame to see him go, but I can understand his reasoning.

Terror football team seeking new defensive coordinator

By Josh Land, Times Staff Writer  Wednesday, May 16, 2007

McDaniel football coach Tim Keating hasn't had to search for a new defensive coordinator outside the program in 11 years.

With Brad Fordyce leaving the Green Terror for the same position at Susquehanna and several other assistants not returning, Keating is mounting a search once again.

Fordyce spent nine seasons with the program, including the last four as defensive coordinator. His goal is to become a head coach and to do so, both Fordyce and Keating said it's important to diversify his resume a little bit.

"I'm really just trying to gain a new experience, try and open some more doors for me professionally, just gain new insight," said Fordyce.

Anyone know which other coaches aren't returning to McDaniel?  Any candidates for the DC yet?

illinihscoach05

I heard that the coaches at McDumbell were cutting and running for other reasons than what is being said.  There is a major question about financial aid to athletics that has been a factor before (mid to late 90s) that was covered up and the former lax coach took the brunt of it although football was the major violator in this scandal which went as far as Annapolis before being brushed under the carpet.  The name Hindman will arise before all is said and done and the illegal monies being doled out are being looked at INTENSELY!

CBE

Hindman last coached in the early 80's.  Has he still been involved with the program?

Please predict how you think things will go this year?
How do you see Juniata doing?

Pat Coleman

This conference is hard to get a read on even in its old configuration and I think it will be harder now. The standings are so tightly packed of late. But here goes.

I think Moravian slots in in the higher middle tier of the league, the ones that will be fighting to go 5-3 in this configuration. Juniata is going to have to fight to go 3-5 and might be destined for 2-6 or 1-7 without some major improvement. I look at the conference schedule and I can't point to a single game that I know Juniata will win, you know what I mean?
