Pat,

thanks for the response.
I know very little about this confernce but would like to learn more.
What are the major issues keeping JU from competing?
Once again, thank you for your input.

Footballer22

Pat and anyone else,

Who do you like as early favorites in the conference it seems like everyone had very young teams last year...maybe the conference will do some damage in the playoffs this year.

Big Scream

Here's how I think the new teams will fare:

Moravian

@ Susquehanna W
McDaniel W
LVC W
JHU L
Dickinson L
G'Burg W
F & M W
Juniata W
Ursinus W
MC W

Moravian will make some noise.  I think they could also lose to McDaniel and Ursinus and possibly beat JHU and/or DC.  Either way the 'Hounds will be in contention.

Juniata

@ FDU-Florham W
Ursinus L
Franklin & Marshall W
@ McDaniel L
Muhlenberg W
@ Gettysburg W
@ Moravian L
JHU L
Dickinson L
Gallaudet W

JC will be a respectable (and suprising 5-5).  I am not sure if a major upset is in the cards but I think they will be improved.  I think that the bookend W's are almost a lock.  The test will be finding 3 to win in the middle of that stretch.  Which I think is definetly doable.

These two teams will show how strong the MAC actually is.  Without having to deal with King's, Lyco, Widener, Wilkes week in and week out  these teams will have more success.

Pat Coleman

It's very possible. We just don't have a lot of data to measure Juniata against the Centennial -- all we know is they were 0-2 in 2006 against 2007 Centennial members.

Sure. But it's different if you use Moravian as a benchmark. :)

Well put.

2007 is a new year and in July everyone is 0 - 0 and old-has-been-athletes are looking to relive their glory days through their kids.

I look forward to the season.
Murphy,
I like your style. :)

How does JU compare with the other CC teams in terms of:

Roster Size
Staff Size
Facilities

... of the schools that contacted him he thought Juniata was the best place for his future.

Excellent. That's the way it's supposed to be.   ;D

The league doesn't control Juniata's out of conference schedule. Juniata could have played FDU-Florham on Sept. 1 (or Aug. 30 or 31) if both teams had agreed to do so.

Indeed, camp is restricted to a certain number of practices before the first game, but actual calendar days as well as the first day of class are taken into account. Not everyone who first plays on Sept. 8 would report on Aug. 14.

I heard that Moravian has a transfer qb from DII but I cannot confirm it. He was supossedly an all-state qb in PA. If this is true it would defintitely fill the position that the Hounds were shaky at last year. Anyone confirm this rumor?

URSINUS NAMED 2007 PRESEASON FOOTBALL FAVORITE
Bears Edge Johns Hopkins and Dickinson in Coaches Poll

LANCASTER, Pa. - July 30, 2007 - Returning 10 starters and three first-team All-CC performers from an 8-3 season, Ursinus has been selected as the preseason favorite to capture the 2007 Centennial Conference football championship in a poll of the CC's head coaches and sports information directors.

It is just the second time in the poll's 18-year history that the Bears have been tabbed as the team to beat.  Ursinus was picked No. 1 in 1997 after winning its only Centennial grid title in the previous season.  UC received seven first-place votes (teams not permitted to vote for themselves) and 112 points.

Johns Hopkins (5-5 in 2006) came in second to Ursinus with four firsts and 105 points, while defending champion Dickinson (8-3) finished third in the balloting with three firsts and 94 points.

Conference newcomer Moravian (4-6), who joins the Centennial as an associate football member, was slotted in the fourth position, just two points (76-74) ahead of archrival Muhlenberg (5-5).  Gettysburg (5-5) and Franklin & Marshall (3-7) each received one first-place vote and were sixth and seventh with 67 and 52 points, respectively.  McDaniel (4-6) and Juniata (1-9) rounded out the preseason prognostication.

2007 Preseason Poll

1.   Ursinus (7)   112
2.   Johns Hopkins (4)   105
3.   Dickinson (3)   94
4.   Moravian (2)   76
5.   Muhlenberg   74
6.   Gettysburg (1)   67
7.   Franklin & Marshall (1)   52
8.   McDaniel   44
9.   Juniata   17

COUNTDOWN TO CAMP
65 hours and counting!!! :D

BITMAT.24CB

I will follow the mules and greyhounds.  I understand that there is a great rivalary between the two. I have recently relocated from the northeast to the Valley. Looking forward to all the football between Lehigh, Moravian and Muhlenberg

BITMAT.24CB

no I have not. I first heard about this from a guy who heard from a guy who heard from a guy :D
I guess we will find out shortly as Moravian is scheduled to begin practice on friday. the only info (rumor?) so far is that he played D II and has transfered with at least 2 yrs eleigibility and that he was all state in high school. Don't know where he is from or where he played. I think if it is true and he is as good as the rumor mill says he is it will help Moravian. I looked at the qb position last year and the stats are average at best. if anyone else can verify or disclaim the rumor feel free to comment
