CC To answer your question about the Mules, yes the second place ranking was on the high side. In all reality, there are 4 or 5 schools who have a realistic shot at winning a National Championship before the season starts. The other 200 some schools have no shot. Wait until you see some of this week's scores as well in the final eight and if history repeats itself there will be a few more blow outs. Before the playoffs started, I looked at the game notes for Mount Union. Looking at their roster and I saw they had 30 Freshman listed ( that's about average for most D III schools including the CC schools). Then on the next page was the FRESHMAN roster with 104 more players listed. The CC schools can NEVER compete with that.
And from what I've heard, Mt Union has a full JV schedule, so by the time those 104 freshman move up with the big boys, they have plenty of game experience.

BTEXPRESS

CBE,You are correct, most D III schools play 3 or 4 JV games, and from what I understand Mount Union plays TEN. Without following the Raiders closely, I wonder how many of those 135 Freshman make it to their Senior year? Another question is if they drop off the football team, do they stay at Mount Union as regular students or do they transfer to other schools?

How would MU fair against 1AA schools?

tough to answer.. Just as DIV III their is the good, the bad, and the ugly in the championship div(1AA). You could check Mt Union football page and see if they ever played a div up.

I just look at the all-conference teams again.. Juniata has a freshman Jason Marquia dl and a JR Andy Miller-DB.  If the new coach can keep the players and get a few more new ones they could be a big factor next year.

Just waiting to see who they might pick-up. You know I'll keep looking at the papers and let you know asap.

That may be next year though

Mates,

Mules just don't get no respect....nor does the CC . Let's get real, and then surreal.
The  Mules were undefeated last year and would have been again if injuries in game 9 (Ursinus) didn't
take 2 cylinders or sparkplugs from the offensive engine, the leading receiver (over 100 yds per game
and plenty of tds), , and the starting fullback, the undersized member of the 3  amigos in the backfield,
a run/pass blocker as good as you could find in the conference backfields, who ran the short yardage
first downs, caught the 3rd down conversion passes, and gave you 23yds per kickoff return for
field position.Cut off one arm and one leg and try to win a race; it aint happenin.
The rest of the team carried on as well as could be expected, but the losses to Moravian and Wesley just
made it clear to the Mules, their coaches, and their fans that the promise and dream of the 2nd undefeated season, much less outstanding playoff potential, were over..Any rating of the Mules before then was earned, and anyone who looks back and says otherwise did not watch the Mules closely.....the CC national rep could have grown even more....

Muledaddy-- and your point is ????

Centennial is just one of the few conferences that, within it's self, plays good football. There may a chance that one of the teams has a great season and goes futher than round 1 or 2. This year was good to show that while three teams had good records the rest did not thus pulling the Mules and the rest down. It is looked at overall not just conference games.

Ralph Turner

I thought that the more telling feature is that the CC went 0-3 in post-season play.  The ECAC games gave us an idea of the level just beyond the Pool A bid.

As a conference, the throne is up for grabs every year.  It makes a good race, and fans can enjoy it.  The difference between #1 and #9 is minimal compared to what is seen in the "power conferences" that still have teams in the playoffs.   :)

Muledaddy,

I might take a little heat for this response but if I do it will be worth it!  Please stop your whining.  >:( It is getting very old and tired.

Injuries happen to everyone.  To the best of my memory during the course of this year;
1)   UMHB lost it's starting tailback (and probable All American) for the season in the second game of the year,
2)   Lost the second tailback for at least six games in the third game of the year,
3)   Lost three more tailbacks to injuries for multiple games during the remainder of the season,
4)   Lost a total of six tailbacks during the course of the year for all or part of the season
5)             Played a total of ten different people at tailback during the course of the year
6)   Lost the starting wide receiver for two games, (same as you are crying about)
7)   Lost their starting free safety when they had to move him to tailback at the end of the year
8 )   Lost one defensive end/linebacker for several weeks during the season
9)   There are probably more I don't know about

In spite of all this UMHB beat Wesley 46-14 who beat you 20-0!!  Then beat the winner of the other half of the bracket 63-7!!  :o

If losing two starters left you an arm and a leg, I guess all UMHB had left was eyeballs.   :D

YOU DON'T GET RESPECT, YOU EARN IT!!   ::) :P
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!
