Looking at the AFCA polls for the last two weeks I have made an interesting observation.  During week 3 (10/4/10) Ursinus got 26 votes and Muhlenberg got 25.  The next week, week 4 (10/11/10) Ursinus, after a bye week, received 29 votes and the Mules received only 3 measly votes after a thorough drubbing of Juniata.  With a big halftime lead the reserves were put in.

What this tells me is that in these polls you have to kick the living tar our of a weaker opponent and run up the score to a gaudy level before you get any props from the polls.

Coach Donnely, bless him, in the 5 years since I have been following the Mules, has always show a lot of class and good sportsmanship.  He has never run up the score after having the game well in hand and has put in the 2nd and 3rd srting guys to give them an opportunity to play as well as gaining valuable game experience.  Thank you coach Donnelly for marching to the beat of your own drummer and sticking to your principles.

It's the AFCA poll -- I don't think coaches are impressed by running up the score. Neither is our poll. But when you get to the bottom levels of any poll, where there are fewer votes (25) than there are voters (the AFCA has 40 or so), you're going to get inconsistencies.

My picks

Ursinus
Muhlenberg
Franklin & Marshall
Dickinson
Gettysburg

Decent slate of games this week...Headliner is definitely Hopkins at Ursinus, which I think if Hopkins can play mistake free football they have a good chance of pulling it out. Unfortunately for them, they have made their share of mistakes this year. Muhlenberg at McDaniel should also be a good one, if the Mules pull off another road win down in Maryland that might just say the Mules are back. Obviously they have some tough games left on their schedule past McDaniel but if they get this one, look out. Hoping the Hounds can shock F&M on Homecoming but not sure that is in the cards, need another consistent game out of newly found QB Johnson and a solid game from the defense with some forced turnovers to have a chance.

Good Luck to all the teams this weekend.

Pat,

I am extremely impressed with the job the D3.com team does in terms on surveying the boards for different areas to add their insight. That must be quite a time consuming thing to do with the amount of different threads that exist. On top of writing for the various D3sports pages and your full time jobs, it is quite impressive. All the effort is much appreciated and keep up the good work.

Enjoy the weekend of football

I am waiting for the Greyhounds to be the fly in someone's ointment.  Just not the Mules' ointment as the Greyhounds have, over the years, been known to do.

muledaddy

bears ,mules ,dickinson.f and m, gburg.......might get to see Ursinus, I hope.

old ends

Just got back home after many weeks of  travel.

Some thing never change.

Looks like Ursinus and Muhlenberg are once again heading for a battle for number one.

HELP WANTED:

Looking for Pollsters for a "soon to be unveiled" D3 TOP 25 FAN POLL.

Publishing site: www.uwwfootball.blogspot.com

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Commit to submit a ballot ranking the D3 Teams 1-25 by stated deadline. I'm thinking that will be midnight on Mondays.
2. Research the teams and try to be as unbiased as possible in ranking them.
3. Think through your own philosophy as to how much to weigh previous ranking, won/loss record, your sense as to who would win head to head, national performances in recent years, quality wins, and whatever reasonable criteria you care to choose.
4. Submit a ballot EVERY WEEK by the deadline. Missing a deadline will be cause to forfeit your spot. Create and submit your ballot BEFORE viewing the D3football.com poll. You can look at previous weeks polls to get you started if you are having a hard time filling out the last few slots.

PURPOSE OF POLL

This poll is to promote meaningful and fun discussion on d3boards.com.  It is simply something that will be fun to contrast with D3football.com's poll. D3football.com's poll is the one legitimate poll we have in D3 football in my opinion.  This poll is not even intended to become #2. I just think it would be an interesting point of comparison and discussion.

HOW TO APPLY

Send me a private message. In your message indicate:
1. you are applying to be a pollster.
2. What team/conference you follow.
3. Whether you can submit a poll as early as this Thursday. (That is not mandatory, if everyone can we may do one this week).

WHO WILL BE CHOSEN?

The first 25 respondents will be our initial group of pollsters.  This group will remain the D3 FOOTBALL FAN POLL TOP 25 pollsters unless they resign their position or miss a deadline.  Pollsters, I will never post your names on the boards.  If you choose to, that is fine. If you are beyond the first 25 responses, your name will be placed on a "waiting list".  If there are fewer than 25 respondents by midnight on Wednesday, we will go with what we have and continue to have "open" slots to be filled.

Remember FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED!  ;)

Another good weekend of Football in the CC...Hounds pick up a huge Homecoming win against F&M, the new QB has given them quite a spark offensively as he has really been impressive the last 3 weeks. The defense was very good as it has been most of the year. Mules pick up another big win and Ursinus takes another step toward the CC title. It's starting to look like a crash course for Muhlenberg and Ursinus to meet for the CC title, although the Mules will be dealing with an angry F&M squad this week.

Good Morning,

I think you made a boo boo CCFan.  I picked 5 out of 5 this past week, cleverly picking the Moravian upset ;D    Based on 20-10 after the previous week I should be 25-10.  Did I miss something?

In any event, many thanks for being the "pickem administrator" this year.

wesleydad

ok mule fans, wesley has a bye week this week and in 2 weeks.  the mules have what look like 2 good games.  which game would you suggest that i add to my traveling d3 football game itinerary?  F & M coming off a tough loss or ursinus possibly for the league title and maybe even a trip on the line to dover.  let me know your thoughts.  hate sitting around on a saturday and mule is a short trip, well at least compared to some fo the others i have made so far, from my place.
