This was just posted on Guilford's website, so I guess it's now official.  Chris Rusiewicz (pronounced roo-sev-itch), the 2010 AFCA Assistant COY while at Ursinus College, has been named Guilford's 22nd Head football Coach.  I'm sure a more thorough release will follow after today's 1:30 pm press announcement on Guilford's campus.

Welcome aboard, Chris!

This is a sad day for anyone connected with Muhlenberg Football. Coach Marino was real gentlemen, a great coach and a great person.

McDaniel's AD resigned.  National search underway.

In the middle of his 12th academic year on the job, Jamie Smith resigned as McDaniel College athletic director Monday.

Longtime women's basketball coach Becky Martin has taken over as interim director of athletics, a move confirmed on the school's athletics website staff directory and by Martin via phone Monday night.

"I think this has taken a lot of people by surprise," Martin said. "It certainly has taken me by surprise."

Phone calls to Smith and the college's communications department, and a Facebook message sent to McDaniel president Roger Casey were not returned.

Martin, who was in her third year serving as assistant athletic director, said she received the news recently but was given no reason for Smith's resignation.

"I was told it was Jamie's decision," Martin said. "I wasn't part of the conversation. Jamie didn't say anything to me. That was a discussion between Jamie and the president."

Smith had presided over the department since September 1999. During his time at the school, Green Terror athletics experienced mixed results with the women's basketball program and both golf programs rising to national prominence. But in recent years, there has been a department-wide decline.

Since 2005, McDaniel has won just one Centennial Conference championship outside of golf - last winter in women's basketball.

Martin said she has been told that the college plans to launch a national search for a new athletic director, and hasn't been informed how long she'll be filling in.

"They want to bring in an appropriate candidate to fill the position, and whether that's two months from now, five months from now, I don't think they have a specific timeframe," she said. "But I believe they'd like to get someone into the position as we move into the new year."

Martin also said she isn't sure whether she'll pursue the job. She has been the Green Terror's women's basketball coach for 30 seasons and has won four Centennial championships. However, the Terror are coming off a 7-18 season.

"Right now, my interest is I'm the women's basketball coach. I've been asked to help in the athletic department and that's what I'm doing," Martin said. "At this stage of the game, all I can tell you is I'm still here recruiting for the program.

"It's my basketball program. I want it to continue to be successful."

It's been a tough few years to be a terror fan. I'm not sure I want the women's basketball coach to get the job full time. Hopefully they're not looking at going that direction. Athletics director should be a full time job.

I don't get the impression she's too interested in the position.  She was told they were conducting a national search, so it sounds like it will be someone from outside the school.

Moravian's AD Paul Moyer to McDaniel - Wonder who will fill the void at Moravian, will be interesting to see if they go externally to find a national candidate or if one of the current head coaches will show interest and get it. The internal ones I could see being a good fit are Dapp (Football), Byrne (Softball) and Spirk (Women's Basketball).

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Coach Scot Dapp ends his tenure at Moravian to become the new AD. Jeff Pukszyn, the team's defensive coordinator for more than the last decade will take over as Head Coach. I think this is a great move for the overall athletic department as a whole and the football team will also benefit with the opportunity for a fresh perspective at the head coaching position. It will be interesting to see who Coach Pukszyn appoints as the OC and if anything philosophically will change within the offense. Should be an interesting season to watch these things play out.
