Anyone want to go out on a limb, and make a bold prediction that F&M will continue to get better and beat Union?

If I were the Dips, I'd worry about travelling to Hopkins this week first, especially considering they haven't beaten the Blue Jays in quite a while.

An interesting and surprising fact about the 2005 McDaniel (4-0) team:  they average 340.5 yards of total offense and give up 375.5 yards of total defense.  Three of their four opponents have outgained them this season.  I give them alot of credit for finding ways to win.

"Three of their four opponents have outgained them this season."

A result of getting ahead early, letting up, having the opponent move the ball up and down the field on them, and comming back in the final minute to win.

BC the exception, Seton Hill, Catholic, and Ursinus should all have been big wins. That's why BC has the edge in the poll. I hope they can turn it around because comming into tougher conference competition, playing that way just wont get it done.

Regardless of the online quote that Pat noted in "Around the Region", F&M's defense the last two game has been very good.  Considering the past two opposing team's passing attacks' have been suspect, it will be interesting to see how they do against Hopkins, going up against a good quarterback and receivers.
If F&M can control the mistakes on offense they have been making, it should be a good game.

The Centennial Conference race is shaping up to be another exciting one. McDaniel appears to be urning to juggernaut status (albeit with close wins over Ursinus and Catholic), Hopkins survived their typically soft early schedule unscathed and has an offense that appears to be waking up, F&M started conference play with a much needed victory, and Gettysburg can do the same by upsetting McDaniel this weekend. As far as the underwhelming performance of Muhlenberg, the offense is mostly to blame. Although the defense has given up a ton more yards than in previous seasons, they haven't given up an insurmountable amount of points. The offense has consistently been in positions to win games, but hasn't pulled out a tough one yet. The offensive scheme it not suited to the players they currently have on their roster. Until they gameplan changes, the Mules will have to hope their defense can win some games for them if they want to contend.

WR22:

Personally i was very surprised of the comment made in the Talkback section of the Sunday News.  Probably even more surprised that Pat included it in his column.

Had a chance to read the entire thing.  Sounds like it was written out of frustration.
I think everyone would agree though that the team is not playing up to expectations, especially the offense, even with the recent victories.
I've seen improvement each week, hopefully it will continue.

Agree the team isnt playing upto expectations but still dont think it needed to be included in the article.

While may have been unnecessary, I don't have a problem with Pat using the "comment" in his recent piece.  F&M has dug itself into a hole and rightfully lost much of the respect that it earned last season.  F&M now has the opportunity to win out and regain that respect.

F&M's defense does, however, deserve some respect and recognition.  They have pitched two shoutouts in a row (the offense gave up the 9 pts to the Mule on the safety and fumble) and are very aggressive and move well.  The game versus Hopkins this weekend will provide some insight about whether the D is for real.

As for the offense, it has problems, but is not as bad as some make it sound.  Harner has yet to have a good game and I suspect this has a lot to do with losing his favorite target from last year and losing two starting WRs so far this season.  The receiving core dropped a lot of passes this past weekend, but with experience, they should get better.  F&M also has appeared to have found their next running back in Petricelli - the kid runs hard and has pretty good speed and instincts.  If the o-line plays more consistently, Petricelli could be on his way to a good second half of the season.  Once the running game is established, Harner will have better looks in the passing game and should improve.

On a whole, the Dips are getting there.  This weekend will be a good test.  The Dips haven't won in Baltimore in ten years - a game I remember fondly......

Go Dips.

The offense clearly has some issues and I wasn't particularly thrilled with their performance

Going to be a wet and rainy weekend.  Running the ball will be very important this weekend.
