ktroutvon,
No I have not seen either of those teams play and I assume you have not seen Union either. Analysis of play  against common opponents is an accepted method of predicting strength.
I just observed that Union was very impressive against an equally impressive Mule team that nigt ( Mules problems seemed to start after the Union game)while F&M struggled against a down Mule team.
Look, you could be right and maybe I just plain missed some of the strengths of F&M . Let's talk after The U/F&M game and see what we think then OK?

I saw Union last year so I more or less know the offense, but they lost some important guys from their defense.  It doesn't seem like it will matter though b/c F&M's defense isn't going to shut down Union and their offense seems horrendous.  F&M's defense couldn't hold a struggling Hobart offense (new receivers and 4/5ths of the O-line) under 30 pts so I am assuming they won't do any better against Union.

Can the F&M QB put it together for a game and put 24-30 pts. up is the only question I am curious about.

October 14
Gettysburg at Johns Hopkins - JHU by 14

October 15
McDaniel at Dickinson - McDaniel by 10
Union at Franklin & Marshall - Union by 3
Muhlenberg at Ursinus - Muhlenberg by 3

Both Union and F&M seem inconsistent this year, but Union is unbeaten so I have to go with them.  If F&M wakes up out of their offensive funk, it could be interesting.  BTW, F&M's defense has been average at best so far, but the expectations for the offense were much higher.  If the offense plays poorly, this could be a blow out.  I hope F&M gets it together.

I won't make it to the JHU night game as I have in other years...

I'm in Knoxville, Tennessee on business for two weeks...although I will be catching the Maryville/Centre game on Saturday.

JHU 34  Gettysburg 13

On the d3football.com website, under recent press releases, there is a link to Union game notes with F&M.
In Union's game notes there is a statistics comparison between Union and F&M.
Union's stats are pretty impressive.  The Dips will need to bring their "A" game.

Amish Allstar

Yes, they sure will.  Seems like it is going to be a nice day out there and hopefully the O can get on track

badbadman:

Regarding F&M's defense being average, they have shut out the opposition two times so far.  Although they give up some yards, I would say they are more than just average.
Of course I've only seen them three times this year.  You may have seen them more.

Is there any offense in the Centennial league this season...so many games have been very low scoring affairs. I look for Union to beat F&M without too many problems unless Union turns the ball over several times.  Union 21-3

To paraphrase Mandefense "is Gettysburg that improved or is JHU over-rated"? 14-0 against  a team that Hamden-Sydney scored 56 on? (I know -the Bullets scored 40 on HSC, but it was 35-7 at half, and 56-34 with a minute left)...should be interesting when JHU and HSC play.

You care to share where you're paraphrasing me from???  I did wonder a few weeks back if Gettysburg was improved, and it seems to me they have.  NEVER did I imply JHU was overrated, so don't put those words into my mouth.

If anything, I implied H-SC is overrated.  That defense is atrocious.  Even a struggling Hopkins offense will put 30 up on it, and that will be plenty with the defense they have, Ricca or not.

Plus, anyone who was there will tell you tonight's game wasn't as close as the score indicated either.

Congrats to Coach Margraff on his 100th career win as well.

Hmm ...

I do think we could've played another two, three, four quarters and Gettysburg would not have scored. But would Johns Hopkins have been able to score either? Their points came off one broken-open pass play and a blocked punt. Sure, JHU put a couple drives together, missed two field goals, failed on fourth-and-3 from the 4 ... but man, they gotta score more.

The two teams went 2-for-18 and 3-for-15 on third-down conversions. With numbers like that, doesn't matter which belongs to which team.

Not disagreeing with you Pat.  The JHU offense can be frustrating at times to watch, for the fans and the coaches.  The talent is there, but they need to find a rhythm sometimes.

You had to have been at least a little impressed with the JHU defense.  They are for real.

badbadman

wr22,

No, I have only seen them once so perhaps it was just a bad day.  They were pushed around on the LOS and seemed a little soft that day.  Hope you guys can get it together against Union on Saturday.

norton,

Sets up an interesting match up between HSC and JHU since Gettysburg scored 40 on HSC vs 0 on JHU and HSC scored 56 while JHU scored only 14 on Gettysburg.  The game will probably come down to how well the QB's play and who wins the LOS.
