Both have great defenses, but more scoring may come from special teams, big plays by each defense, and the inevitable gadget play.  I think the winning team will need to put up more like 20 points.

Have been away from the computer the last two days but what an unfortunate turn of events that took place in Lancaster this weekend.  Not really much else to say.  Union made a nice "lucky" play to win the game.  Not making excuses because good teams find way to win with a little luck on their side as well

Same thing again killed the Dips. Turnovers at critical points in the game.  However, the Dips "D" showed tremendous heart all day shutting down the nations leading rusher and cutting his average in half.  Intercepted Marotti three times and deflected numerous others.  Some of the deflections could/should have been picked.  Either way the D played great, except for the last play.

If there is an consolation in this game is that the Dickinson "O" is not nearly as quick, powerful and explosive as Union's was.  Only Centennial games reamin for the Dips, with the conference title still up in the air.  Hopkins is sitting in the drivers seat but as we saw last year anything can happen.

I know you will all pshaw this but take a close look at The Mules passing stats for 6 games and some of their individual receiving, scoring, and all-purpose stats. I have noticed during this season that when they decide to pass especially on 1st and 2nd downs, they are hard to handle. For a couple of series Saturday they passed to run instead of trying to run to open up the pass. They moved right down the field and scored back to back touchdowns on decent drives and then inexplicably went back to their predictable 1st and 2nd down runs.
The Mule defense is good, not great as in the past, but when the offense runs to pass it usually leads to lots of 3 and outs and the D gets tired.

Muley,
I agree with you.  Maybe its about time the mules o cordinator realized that he hasnt put his offense in positions to succeed in the past by his play calling.  Run on first down, run on second down, pass on third down seemed to be their scheme and an unsuccessful one at that.  not to mention some of their other tendencies that i have noticed from attending several games in the past few years. (red zone/ 3rd and short = option, 3 rd and long = qb/sprint draw, sprint out to twins, just to mention a few).   in the past the mules had weapons where play calling was a nonissue and pretty much anything would work.  as they continued to lose all of those playmakers of the past (josh carter, matt bernardo, kodi shay) they were forced to actually think when it comes to play calling.  it has no longer been a nobrainer when it came to play calling and this has led to problems.  now it seems a reoccurring theme that the mules fans just sit around and wait for the offense to shoot themselves in the foot soley because of awful play calling.  who knows maybe they are turning over a new leaf and maybe they will have a chance at winning the cc outright and stop depending on their defense and special teams to get the job done with fumble returns and fake punts.

I also agree. Muhlenberg's offense, once the bane of the rest of the conference, is now much more predictable and apparently easier to stop. Without a doubt this weekend's game against JHU should go a long way in determining the conference's automatic bid. It should be interesting to see if JHU's offense which has been rather stagnant recently can exploit the flaws in the vaunted Muhlenberg D. It should be even more interesting to see if the Muhlenberg O can do anything with a very though JHU D.

How would you guys say the CC ranks compared to the other conferences in the nation. Looking at the stats, and than stats from other conferences, i cant say the competition's the best.
JHU-MC will come down to mistakes. Both great D's, whoever comes to play, holds onto the ball, and makes the most of opportunites will win. I'm picking JHU. 4 FG's.

patcummings

McDaniel still has nine votes from the AFCA poll...that's really incredible considering the last two weeks.

The CC ranks in the bottom half of conferences...I don't recall specifically where, but D3football.com ranks all the conferences and we did so in our season preview edition.

The reason...the competition between teams in the conference is great, but when you get outside, and especially in the playoffs, the CC hasn't been able to hold up.

badbadman

Per D3 Kickoff:

2005 preseason conference ranking: 15th of 25

Generally, the CC has had a winning non-conference regular season record and usually beats some decent out of conference teams.  The CC has not had a great amount of recent success in the NCAA playoffs.  The last NCAA playoff wins were Muhlenberg 2002, Western Maryland 2000 & 1999, and Ursinus 1999.  No CC team has advanced past the second round although Western Maryland gave Trinity a good second round game in 1999 losing 20-16.

MULEY

CCfan4Life,
Great analysis. Couldnt agree more. The Mules do have one outstanding weapon that they are not utilizing fully. Check out the indiv stats.

ccfan4life

Muley,
I just checked out the stats and no huge weapons are jumping out at me.......or did i just miss something??

CCFan4Life. The Mules Have a receiver who is #1 in YPC #2 In Total receiving yards, #2 in overall  CC scoring# 1 in receiver scoring and #5 in CC in all purpose yards.I would call that a weapon.Check again and you will see.

ccfan4life

Muley,
You are correct i dont know how i missed that.  He is a weapon, but once again he cant be effective if he does not have the ball.  I agree mules need to get him the ball and not just in passing situations.  its time for the mules o coordinator to realize that his offensive attack has been just that...... OFFENSIVE to watch.

MULEY

CCfan4life,

It is easy to miss. Most schools would be hyping him, but The Mules are very low key . I noticed in todays JHU Game notes that they have picked up on him and they have also noticed a few other positive things offensively.  He has scored every week except The F&M game(dropped a tough TD pass at the back of the end zone ). No one has been able to contain him. Should be a great game if The Mules use their weapons.
