Are you speaking up Douglass?

MULEY

Yes having a great year after missing all of 04 with an injury. Need to get him the ball more. Big play receiver. 41 yard TD vs Union,71 yd td vs Dickinson, 24 yarder vs ursinus 16 yarder vs GCC.Nice15+ YPR avg on 27 catches with 5 TDs (on a pace with Kodi Shay who had All American Matt Bernardo in the backfield) plus healthy  YPC average as a runner although he has only carried about 10 timeas all year. Now starting  to return punts and kick-offs.Montalto is also a very effective TE., big and athletic and deceptively fast . The Soph QB seems to be doing well also. Leads league in QB effic.Mules lead CC in Pass effic. They have the talent in the passing game So why try to run first?

Amish Allstar

Good question! but it seems like muhlenberg has also been primarily a run first set up the pass team.  Then again it doesnt seem like they are getting the recruits that they had been getting.  No more Bernardos, Shay's, Carters or even a QB like Justin Jones.  I believe it was you that said all that offensive covered up the spotty Offensive Coordinators play calls.

Out of curiousity what happened to him in the F&M game.  Didnt impress me much but then again did look like they wanted to get him the ball. any thoughts

MULEY

Amish Allstar,

The folks at The Berg consider him one of the most talented all around skill players they have ever had. As mentioned, slightly ahead of Kodi's Senior Year  pace.
Good observation on The F&M Game. None of The Mules had a good game that day .He was wide open many times but they seem to forget him for long periods of time when they decide that they want to try to run.

Dont think he is on Kodi Shays level just yet even if his numbers are slightly better.  Kodi could alter the game anywhere on the field and in the kick game.  he was a gamebreaker and i dont see Kyle anywhere near that.  Just an observation but i have only seen the F&M game to go by.

Beat the Jays this weekend!

Amish,
You are correct Kodi Shay could change the game at any moment with his talent.  One reason for that was his aggressiveness when being thrown to.  When he wanted the ball.....he would go after it and make the catch.  Although douglas isnt as aggressive, he runs routes much more percise and effective than kodi shay ever did.  not many people in the cc if anyone at all can cover douglas.  if you watch a mules game you will see that 90% of the time douglas is open.  if you werent impressed with his showing against f&m this year.....then maybe you should look back two years ago to 2003 when douglas was spinning f&m corners into the ground with his corner routes all game.  douglas is the kind of player that the more you give him the ball.......the better he performs.

muley,
i agree with you montalto is a hell of a player.  he is extremely aggressive when he is thrown to and you are right he is deceptively fast for his size.  he seems like he wants the ball every play and thats the mentality you need to have as offensive player. i would like to see him become more of a focal point in the offense along with douglas.

go mules!

MULEY

Amish Allstar,
No disrespect to Kodi, great player but he was always the go to guy in a balnced pass/run offense. Douglass is usually only thrown to when the whole stadium knows it will be a pass, the defense can cheat on him and still he delivers.
PS Kodi himself told me that Douglass is a more talented player than he was.

MULEY

youcan'twin22,

You obviously have been watching The Mules for a few years, I would add that When Douglass was a Soph he prevented teams from doubling on Kodi.

Amish,
You are correct, it doesn't matter if they don't get him involved more.
I have seen him take over a couple of games. Ursinus last week 9/105 1 TD, 196 all purpose yards.Kings Point 04 ,5 for 105 with an additional 30 yd td called back and a 35 yarder called back as well , all in the first half. The more they use him,. the better he performs.

Maybe they are concerned about durability after missing almost all of 04 with a serious knee injury The game is on the web and on WMUH 91.7 and on Service Electric Cable Channel 2. I heard it was going to be rainy and cold, not a great day for passing, could work in JHU's favor.

Kvontrout, if you are there, you were right about F&M, they do have a hell of a defense, I was right about their offense, still sputtering. I would like to have seen them without the injuries.

Muley:

The Dips "D" has been playing some great ball starting with the Muhlenberg game.  Last weeks game was a heartbreaker but i said last week that F&M would keep the Union RB under 170 yards.  Boy, was I wrong! They kept him under 105, half his average! Th eonly problem with last week was the number of opprtunties that the Dips had to intercept Marottis passes.  Yes they had 3 but it could have been 7.

However, again the Dips "O" has been a disappointment.  it would have been nice to see them at full strength but it happens and you cant make excuses.  It has given other players opportunities to step with some having done so and others not.  Unfortunately, that is the name of the game.

As tough as it has been for the O there are still 4 week left in the Centennial and as we have seen previously ANYTHIGN can happen.  I hope they are able to get it together because when they play well they are exciting to watch.

Good luck to all this weekend.  Looks like it is going to be another wet weekend.

CBE

Does anyone know if Baer will be back QB'ing McDaniel this week?  If not, what's his expected return date?

mandfense

The weather has a big bearing on my selections and score predictions

Dickinson 13  Franklin & Marshall 10 (dry conditions and I would have picked F&M)
Ursinus 24  Gettysburg 20
Johns Hopkins 13  Muhlenberg 3
McDaniel 27  Randolph Macon 13

badbadman

Franklin & Marshall at Dickinson  - F&M by 3
Gettysburg at Ursinus  - Ursinus by 7
Johns Hopkins at Muhlenberg  - JHU by 10
McDaniel at Randolph-Macon - McDaniel by 20

What happened to the Terror. Wow.

Congrats to Johns Hopkins for clinching at least a share of the conference championship for the 4th year in a row.  Nice comeback win to get the Muhlenberg monkey off their back.

By my calculations, the only way JHU doesn't get the NCAA bid is if they and McDaniel are the only 2 teams that end up 4-2 in the conference.

That can only happen if JHU loses their last 2 conference games AND McDaniel wins their last 3 conference games, AND Ursinus, Gettysburg, Muhlenberg, Dickinson and F&M lose at least 1 more conference game each.

Any other combination and JHU should win the tiebreaker for the NCAA bid.
