Some of the comments on the PAC board indicate that Thiel sometimes starts a little slow on defense, but picks it up as the game goes on.  Even more of a reason to take the ball if we win the toss.

Updated weather report for Greenvile Saturday.  41 degrees at kickoff with 25 MPH winds (31 wind chill).

Hmmmm.....

Hopkins posters:  What are the strengths of Thiel? What are its weaknesses?

Probably better to ask Thiels fans on the PAC board.  My opinion is that the outcome of this game will be decided on turnovers, big plays and how well each team runs the ball.

Thiel is small and quick up front on defense, so hopefully JHU will run right at them.

Forgot to add special teams play.

Johns Hopkins congrats on a great season. You guys played hard all day long and never gave up. You put a scare into all the Tomcats and thier faithful on the first drive.
GO TOMCATS!!!

Great Job today by the Dips. They played very well today but came up a few plays from winning.  HAd to settle FG's instead of TD's.  Offense had its finest showing of the year with over 425 + yards.  Once again the D played a very spirited game and held them under their total yards.

Congrats to F&M on a solid season.  Many bright spots to look forward to nxt year.

very interesting article on the Centennial Conference website regarding athletics vs academics at Haverford.  I know they dont have a football team but i think it is a very surprising article.

Would never consider going to Haverford for any sports after reading this.

AA:  when I read the same article, I thought I wouldn't send any of my kids there under any circumstances - athlete or not.

When I read the article, I wasn't really surprised by anything in it.

Believe it or not, a lot of liberal arts colleges that consider themselves elite academic institutions go through the same process when it comes to athletes.  At least the Haverford admissions people take the athletic department's needs into consideration.

The admissions people at some schools don't take the athletic department's needs into their decision making at all (my alma mater comes to mind) and it makes recruiting that much more difficult.

I'm going to stir the pot a little here, but I wonder what the process is for athletes at the Rowans and Wesleys of the world.   :)

The conflict between professors, non-athlete students and student athletes is what I object to.  Eighteen year old kids have enough stress in their lives without having to deal with this crap.  D3 student athletes have to pass the same courses as everyone else.  Professor or student objections should be the result of poor academic performance AFTER the student was already accepted.  Sounds like the objections raised in the article are more social than academic.

Is this article still up?  I would like to read this article, but could not find it...which, as a refomed Luddite, is not too surprising.

If you have a link, please post it.  Thanks!

Just took a look at F&M's website. It looks like Tony Thompson, DC at F&M is going to become the Linebackers and Special Team Coordinator for Hofstra University.  Going to be a big loss for F&M as he greatly improved their defense.

Was not aware they they finished 14th in the country this past season is def. pass efficiency.

Thanks for the direction, but unfortunately by the time I got to the 12/11 article it had already been put in pay to read status...so I shall head for the public library and track down the back copies of the NYT and see what they have to say.

Thank you again for the direction to the CC link!
