I entered my post-graduate school more than 30 years ago.  The school president had been an all-Southwest Conference tackle who decided to go to medical school after a knee injury.  We had about 5-7 D1 athletes every year.  At that time, the Post-Graduate exit exam scores from my school were  1st 2nd or 3rd in the country, routinely battling Harvard and Yale.

The admissions counselors told the athletes that intercolegiate athletics at that level was worth about 0.5 worth of value to assessing the GPA's.  The admissions counselors knew that the dedication to task that these athletes knew and lived was proof of the ability to handle heavy work loads.

Just read the CC website and read the unfortunate news the Barbara Streeter passed away this morning after a long battle with cancer.  Being from F&M, Coach STreeter reminds me alot of Coach Gilburg.  Always has his mind on his players and Mrs. Streeter was ALWAYS there!!

The thoughts and prayers from the F&M Football team are with Coach Streeter and his family.

Amish:
Looks like a change at F&M.  Not completly unexpected though.

Here's the article from this morning's Intell regarding Halloran's departure from F&M:

Any guesses on the leading candidates for the open F&M job?  I'd guess there will be a strong pool of applicants.  It'll be interesting to see how this sudden shakeup impacts recruiting, as college decision time is right around the corner.

WR22:

Kind of figured he was going to be leaving eventually but i was VERY surprised at this move now.  Good luck to him at UPenn. He helped turn F&M's program around and the job is a very attractive one for the potential candidates.

RW:
It should be very interesting with the recruits but life will go on.  There are 3 great classes here already and if they can get a solid class from a numbers prespective, everything will be fine.  Definetly no need to panic!  Smesko and Sutyak will do a good job until a new coach is named.

Coaching change a few years ago obviously when Halloran was hired and it didnt hury anything. Granted it was under very different circumstances and not this late in recruiting. Either way it should be interesting to see what happens.

new coached named at F&M.  Looks like a good fit.

Does anyone have the league wide schedule next year for the CC? Is it even out?

HeardEnough

This board is dead. Who's the team to beat next season? I like McDaniel with the qb back. Hopkins should be tough. Any other thoughts?

Amish Allstar

The Centennial is going to be tough to predict again.  You cant really count any team out, which is a good thing to have because it makes the season exciting.

I am very excited to see what type of team F&M will bring out this year.  Troxell takes over for Halloran, who used to run Muhlenbergs "O", when they put up some huge numbers.  F&M has a lot of talent especially at the WR position.  Will be interesting.

Hopkins is always tough because they are able to get good kids in and margraff does a great job year in and year out.  They cover up their weaknesses very well yet find a way to win.

Not sure abot the other teams.

Amish-

Do you know if F&M lost/gained any recruits as a result of the coaching transition?

Also, do you think the Dips will enter a mediocre period until Troxell gains his footing, or will they compete immediately for the CC title?

patcummings

I'm not Amish...but

I'll believe anything in the CC...any team can win any year.  It's almost impossible to predict the CC at this point.  Doesn't mean I won't try in our preview along with all the analysis fit to print.

Amish Allstar

RW-

With Halloran leaving I am sure there were some players lost along the way. I am not sure the direct impact or numbers but i am sure it had some effect like any other school with a coaching change.

To me F&M was medicore last year and it was a very disappointing season in Lancaster, especially with 18 or so starters returning from the '04 team.  However, I do not see that being the case in them this year.  They have a great bunch of seniors who will hopefully provide the leadership unlike last year.

As Pat said the CC is always tough to predict and I am going to agree with him on that especially this year.  Pat, you have a tough road ahead of you in the preview but definetly looking forward to it again.

What are some thoughts on the other teams in the conference?

Terror82

Does anyone have any info on the Green Terror recruiting class? I haven't heard anything about it....

This link is an article on the New Jersey North/South All Star game being played tomorrow June 29 at Rutgers.  Leading the way for the North will be Franklin & Marshall bound QB Tommy Hennessey.

Any schools announce their recruits yet?

patcummings

Found this gem amongst sports transactions...

FRANKLIN & MARSHALL-Announced the retirement of Ed Haas, assistant athletic director and sports information director, effective Aug. 4.

Didn't exactly think Ed was of retirement age, so I hope he won the lottery or something.  Good luck collecting social security.

Amish Allstar

Pat,

I thought it was rather strange myself.  I know he did put in incredible hours and i guess he figured he did all he could.  Wish him luck!!

How is the preview issue shaping up?
