Does anyone have any info on how the McDaniel/Salisbury scrimmage went?  Thanks!

MOJO

Posters,
Any info on the Ursinus / DVC scrimmage?  Curious if DVC  looks as good as they supposedly are.  Input please.

With so many people interested in how scrimmages went, it would be cool if people were assigned to attend them and then reported (not a score, just how the 1s & 2s looked).  I could see that being a big hit.  I'd be willing to organize it (and attend what I could).

This of course being for next year...

Rough day for the CC...

Rochester is probably the fourth or fifth best team in the LL and double up JHU.
Gburg loses to the one team we had them beating, Leb Val.
McDaniel blanked by Bridgewater.

Ursinus won and shutout Susquehanna - solid.
Dickinson the same versus Juniata.

Could be a rough year based on some of these starts.

Does anyone know if McDaniel looked as bad as the score would indicate? Was the defense just done in by the big plays, or could they just get no help from the offense?

They did not look good on either side of the ball.  They did not get in the red zone all day.  They seemed to be playing tentatively all day.  7 players went down.  Baer had some limited success running the ball, but it didn't last.  Their O-Liners didn't give him enough time to set up to throw very often.  There were several sacks for losses.  The defense didn't play very well either.  The people around me were more than a little surprised that McDaniel didn't show better today.  The weather was the same for both teams (and the fans as well--I know I felt like a drowned rat most of the afternoon!!)  Just my 2 brownies worth.

I must say I'm a little disappointed by the score. I know the team is very young and inexperienced this year, but the score definitely tells me there was a lack of effort on everyone's part. Can't imagine giving up 41 points is sitting very well with the defensive coaches. The whole not being shut out streak ending is a real shame as well, because I would have to assume that was one of the longest streaks in the nation, even though they have been real close a couple of times. Maybe if anyone gets bored they can look into that.

A starting point... 193 games.

Can't find where that ranks in NCAA record book - doesn't appear to have been tracked. Eyes burnt out on the pdf, so I may have missed it.

Either way...I think its a very commendable statistic, a lot of people can look back on that and say they were apart of it.

All,

Does anyone else remember when people used to talk about the CC?  I know that in recent years the conference has made an effort to stress our academic and liberal arts heritage instead of nationally competitive football...but this is just boring.

Any predictions or insight for this week?  I was surprised to see my bears get the player of the week nod on both sides of the ball in a game that ended 6-0...any chance they can head into conference play at 2-1 or 3-0?

Granted...Ursinus won, and the weather was bad.  Look at the box score and tell me if you think UC can continue along with that same approach that got them a win?

I don't want to say that the quality of talent in the CC has gone down hill in the past 5 years or so, but its been a long time since this conference has been looked on strongly through an entire year from a national point of view. 2004 I think was the banner year for that. A 5 team tie for the conference championship (only because of a controversial ending to the McDaniel-Hopkins game, but I won't get into that) certainly doesn't help a conferece's image from the outside looking in. Then the two top defenses, Muhlenberg and McDaniel, who both had top 10 rankings defensively in multiple categories get absolutely picked apart in their respective postseason games by top ranking offenses. I don't know, but to me it just seems that the CC schools' stressing of academics, and this view that the conference likes to have of itself as a mini-ivy league from an administrative stand point doesn't really help athletics, and more specifically football. It dilutes the talent pool within the conference, so while the teams stack up well against each other, when facing other top teams, i.e. in the playoffs or ECAC games, the conference representative doesn't meet expectations. But this is just one man's opinion, I'm just trying to stir the pot a little...Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Now wait a minute here-the Centennial looks upon itself as a SMALL IVY type of league.  Give me a break!  The TRUE SMALL IVY Conferences are NESCAC and the UAA.  I mean, just check out some of the league schools (Centennial's) rosters - I will not name schools but SEVERAL of the CC colleges have student-athletes who couldn't even get wait listed at NESCAC or UAA colleges! I have been told by SEVERAL people who are in the know about the CC and they tell me that about four of the member colleges can admit student-athletes with SAT's of 700-800!  According to the same source, two of those colleges also have admitted some with SAT's of UNDER 700!  C'mon!  You can't even get a feeler from NESCAC or UAA without a 1250 to 1300 SAT and a solid class rank/GPA.  I worked in both NESCAC & UAA - the CC has some schools (JHU, Dickinson, Swarthmore & Haverford (no football), and maybe one other) that have high standards for admission but lets face it-the CC is NO SMALL IVY LEAGUE. Dispute it as much as you want to - call me down for it but the truth is they better rethink this self engrandizing image because it flat out IS NOT TRUE!
