Stout was up 6 with a minute to go and then went 4-8 from the line in the last 20 seconds, including 0-2 with 6 seconds left and up 3...and lost in overtime.

Hey Doolittledog, good to see someone else on here. But if posting brings Central bad luck, go away! 🤣

I imagine there was a combination of Dubuque doing some things really well and Central being a bit worn down after Loras and NWU. Two shocks for me in this game. Brand leading all scorers was the first as he has not been scoring much this year which has been really strange as he was a strong scoring player last year. I am hoping that means he is stepping up and not that the rest were really off. He was our technical foul shooter last year and this year his free throw percentage is way down. Kind of like he didn't really want that Covid year back. The second is the low scoring by Van Gorp. I only caught a small portion of the game so I am not sure what was happening there.

On letting UD hold the ball the last 30 seconds, a part I did not see, but if they were already down by 7 a comeback in 30 seconds isn't likely. Steinkamp seems to realize when to accept that a win isn't going to happen. If it was 3 or 4 points I agree with fouling. Too often it just backfires with the other team getting two points and a hurried shot by the team behind.

Last year in the Elite 8 Trine was down 77-71 with 37 seconds to go. Since Trine won the Natty, you can imagine how that game ended.

The 1st game of this year, Platteville found themselves down 9 with 1:01 and 6 with 32 seconds to go against Calvin. Platteville won.

Yes, most of the time, it doesn't work, but sometimes it does. Why not try? Who cares if you lose by 7 or 15?

More fouls, delays getting to the Dog House for that Carlisle burger basket with fries postgame!
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

That actually sounds good. Is that in Dubuque?

Oh boy, I messed up.  It's the Carmichael, not the Carlisle.

The Dog House is walking distance to UD, which is good when you are a college aged student.  It's a dive bar, but the  food is good, and it brings back good memories for us old folks.  Here is a video that made the rounds a few weeks back.

Once upon a time, I was planning on coming over for a Dubuque or Loras game and then heading to Platteville for the Stevens Point game. Unfortunately, kids and family got in the way of fun.

SpartyBlue

Dubuque 100 Loras 79 in the Key City Clash.  This is a huge win for Sparty--essentially running Loras out of their own gym.  So, what does this win mean big picture?  Both teams were 12-4/6-1 coming in and this win puts UD in a great position to vie with NWU for the conference championship.

UD is very tough athletic matchup for ARC teams this year, Jaylin McCants is playing at an all-american level now and you really can't double team him as the offensive threats are high at each position.  UD has moved into the top 50 Massey and I believe is edging into the national conversation.  There are two terrible road losses to bad teams in Edgewood and Blackburn but since the Blackburn loss, UD has rattled off 6 in a row including a dismantling of a very good Gustavus Adolphus team.  We'll see what happens, but UD is set up for another 20 win regular season...the home matchup with NWU looms, Central on the road, and then Loras to close things out.   Keep an eye out for the Spartans.

Dubuque currently holds the Pool A spot, but sits around Pool C #32-#33. There's 21 Pool C spots available and with bid thieves, you wanna be around 15 or 16 to have a shot.

Central gets two more wins since I last posted. Luther came in winless in the conference but played a gutsy game against the Dutch making us work for a 3 point win. Then Central goes on the road and beats Wartburg 77-63 today.

I have to give credit to Kaleb Brand for stepping up his offensive performance in the past three games. He had a fantastic game against Luther and is getting closer to last year's levels recently. Credit also to Karson Wehde leading the Dutch with 21 points today. Other players are stepping up taking pressure off Van Gorp to carry the scoring load. The Dutch have to keep improving to get where they want to be. I hate to see Van Gorp and Brand's careers down to half a season, but I am excited by what I see from the younger players.

Dubuque playing well as of late.  Nebraska Wesleyan visits UD on Wednesday.  Would like to see the camera operator pan over to the pep band during time outs so I can see my son playing his trombone  ;D

NWU outscored Dubuque 23-6 in the last five minutes of regulation and during the overtime. The Spartans led 51-41 with just under 5:00 remaining in the second half. Carter Glenn hit two killer threes for the Prairie Wolves in OT.

Central added two more wins again since my last post. They were easily in cruise control over Simpson going up by 30 points after the starters came out with 11 minutes left in the game. They were hammering Van Gorp on the inside often with 3 players on him. He only took 3 shots from the field and added five free throws for 11 points.

Today Coe decided to go one on one against Van Gorp and it was obvious the team wanted our best player ever to break his own scoring record in front of the home crowd. He set it last year with 48 against Coe. He could have set it out of sight if he had not missed 9 free throws. His grandma will say it keeps him humble.
He did break the record scoring 55 points.  Way to go and congratulations Josh! Proud of our hometown player. Dutch beat Coe 75-73 nearly exclusively on two point shooting, but we did need a last second shot by Brad Curren to do it.
