QuoteAlright, since we can't discuss dunks, nah wait a minute.  Seriously CON – how many made alley oops dunks do we see in the MIAC, or in D3 for that matter -  seriously? If we're lucky, one a year.  This Tommie team is causing me to compile a dunk scrapbook.  And it isn't like I haven't seen the other teams in the league play.

I shot this game and was able to get some shots of the dunks. Visit www.mnphotonet.net and check under the MIAC section to check these shots for free. You do need to enter an email address to access the photographs.

They were pretty sweet and I captured some multi frame sequence shots. There are a couple of St. Thomas vs. Bethel games so look for the most recent.

I'm hoping AUG wins today, not because I'm an AUG fan or anti-SJU, but I'm just hoping it will make a more interesting playoff picture.

I'm thinking they might....they are red-hot and SJU (despite VJ's homerisms  :) ) has been up & down all season. It definitely would make the playoff race more intriguing.

The evening game should be most interesting....Cobbers/Royals. Some nice match-ups. A loss would hurt BU's playoff hopes, but not kill them.

Maniac...have to play to my audience...oh and take off those purple shades you look ridiculous...you too Drake ::) ;D

CAR barely escapes defeat from the St. Mary's Cardinals. CAR was up by at about 20 or so in the first half but SMU rallies back and had the game. Will Wright was filthy in the second half and Tommy Drake couldn't buy a bucket. SMU kept chipping away at the lead and on consecutive possessions with under a minute to go things got crazy...

Wright hits a 3 pointer way beyond NBA range to cut the lead to one and then Tommy Drake misses the front end of a one-and-one. With under 10 seconds Wright drives and gets stuffed by Zorro but the ball goes right back to him and he gets the go ahead lay up with 3 seconds remaining. CAR calls time out and has the length of the floor to go...Rosett almost steps over the line causing the time keeper to start the clock early...Rosett then passes the ball in with the clock stopped to Sutherland...clock is restarted as Sutherland passes to Zorro who attempts a deep three...The ball comes off the glass hard and winds up in Tommy Drake's hands slicing to the basket for the rebound...he puts it up as time expires/expired he gets his first two points for the game winner. CRAZY.

I think CAR expected SMU to lie down after the first half but they hung in there and got the W...although I don't know how legit the game winner was. Its nice to finally see CAR catch a break in one of those close ones at home. Big ups to Zorro...the goose was definitely loose today as he ties his career high with 36.

UST 76-68 GAC

First of all, I take back what I said about the Shoe, or at least the crowd involvement.  Excellent fan turnout, very weak, UST fan involvement.  The students ought to be ashamed of themselves.  The UST fans are extremely fickle. One game they're up, next game they're like the Lakers fans.

Aside from that, good ball game.   Joe Scott was on fire in the first half, & at the half UST lead 40-27.

You just knew the Gusties were going to make a run in the 2nd half & they did, & the Shoe got quieter & quieter.

After a Wittwer followup dunk off a nice feed by Mike DesLauriers, toward the 5 minute mark, the Gusties did the "Duke floor slap" & I thought "ut oh, could this be the run?"

Tommies regain their composure, also helped by questionable officiating on both ends of the floor.  Actually the officiating was sketchy throughout most of the game.

Sam "Ol School" Eicher back at it again with the sweet hook shot.  Viau &McCoy should be named to the All-MIAC defensive team.  Joe Scott is a nice young player, but he could look for his teammates more.  Viau with a block on one end & a monster dunk on the other end (left hand again) & I thought the Gusties would wilt.  Tenacious play by the Gusties.

Wittwer was a stud, Andrew Doble did a strong job offensively when McCoy wasn't in the game.  Gustie D kept GAC in the game as they slowly started to creep back into the game.

Good playoff- like game between two teams even if the atmosphere was not playoff caliber.

Voj – throughout the season I've positively talked up every team in the league.

I'm out.  I gotta see if I can avoid the doghouse & sneak over to Bethel for
Cobbs- Royals.

Tommie fans present but uninvolved? What a surprise! Unfortunately, too many Gustie fans have been the same this year. That's probably why they've only lost 2 road games, but managed to lose to three mediocre teams at Gus Young Court.

Wow Dawgs win 77-64 over the Jays.  After being down 35-26 at halftime, they out score SJU 51 - 29 in the 2nd half!!

Brink 26 pts, Solaja 22 points 13 boards.

Was at the shoe today--I was surprised to see the Tommie fans in force and a little more vocal than usual.   How many times did they call Doble for the illegal screen in the final couple minutes?  If it was 1, it was too many.  Should be a different result in the rematch.

gacbacker

Fun game today at the Shoe, but I was disappointed in how big a part the officials played. The Tommies clearly wanted to make it a physical game and it took the Gusties a half to figure out that they needed to match the physicality if they wanted to have a chance.

A tech called on Hanson in the second half, and after that the official who called the tech appeared to get caught up a little bit in the emotions of the game...didn't have a very consistent game in my opinion.

Should be a fun third match-up in the playoffs if both teams can hold serve on their home courts in the semifinals.

Concordia gets a "statement win" tonight, defeating Bethel at BU by a score of 66-62.  Good for the Cobbers.  I am disappointed though a little as I could have been 5-0 again in Pick'em for a second week in a row.  Oh well, 4-1 will have to do ;)

ok well i made the trip for the Carlton vs St. MAry's game today and i couldn't have been more please with how the game went and more disappointed with the people that are paid to work it.

At the end of the game CAR ball with 3.3 seconds left with the cards up one.  Not only did he for sure step over the line on the inbounds the clock started on time when it was thrown in, but then stopped again at 2.5, during the stoppage sutherland fumbled the ball dribbled 3 times and then through up a half court shot, CAR got the rebound came down with it then made the lay up to win!  Someone please explain to me 1) how all of that only took 3.3 seconds? 2) why there wasnt one of the 3 referees watching the clock with the game on the line. 3) The scorekeeper reportedly told St. Mary's coaches that he started then stopped the clock at the end of the game and he was sorry.    St. Mary's won the game and if the CAR website will still allow you to watch the webcast i encourage all of you to do so.  Even after the clock started again the backboard was red on the rebound of the half courter, before the lay-up was shot.

St. MAry's hasn't earned much this year but it's too bad that when they show up and play against a playoff team and win, they still lose.  On another side note Johnson is a disgrace to James Naismith (spelled that wrong)  all he does is talk trash, try and bully people all game, but when some one even touches him he flops like a fish out of water.  I have never been more disappointed that i even played in the same conference even though it was over ten years ago!  He should never get the calls he got.  However the ref giving him the calls was the same ref who counted the late game winnning basket.  If this were the NBA the ref would be in some very deep trouble right now, the miac should review this tape and Credit the cards with the win

concordia of the north

Go COBBS!! It's a great day to be a cobb!

cobs make 15 ft's, bethel makes 14, comparable turnovers and assists, same amount of steals and blocks, cobbs edge the royals in rebounding.  plain and simple, concordia just hung in there and gutted out a nice, gritty road win against a quality opponent.

at the end of the game with the cobbs up two, karl olson tips a pass and recovers it.  luke linz grabs an offensive rebound with 35 seconds left (HUGE!) and the cobbs dribble and pass 24 seconds off the clock until bethel finally fouls with 11 seconds left.  hit a couple freethrows, play good defense, rebound a missed madson 3 pt attempt with 5 seconds left and dribble out a big road win.  very proud of those guys.

cobbs have a chance to do special things in a couple years with baldwin, hagemeyer, fraase, olmscheid, olson, and others.  not only good players but standup and tightknit kids.  they'll gel over the years.

Fraase played like a monster in the second half.  he really saved the game for the cobbs.

WOW, that's pretty brave/stupid of you to say about Johnson when you really have nothing to back it up. Especially in a game where he can't be stopped. He plays the game hard, with love, and passion and that makes him a bad person? NO. I've seen it from many players and that doesn't make them a disgrace. It shows they are intense and have a passion for the game and are out their to win. Which is why we all love watching any level of sports. Yeah, there is some flops at times, but if the calls are going your way then you take them.

Yeah, CAR might have gotten by with one(hard to tell), but their not the ones calling the game. Luck is on your side sometimes. Take your loss and move on. Seems like you have more of a problem with the refs and the game and need a player to blame. Don't bash any player just because you don't like what you see and the outcome of a game. Johnson, among many other MVP players in the league, are stand out players and deserve credit (no matter what team they play for).

No basketball for me today. I've been watching hockey non-stop (minus the drive home from St. Paul) since 10 a.m. Wow, what a great day.

No dont get me wrong scoring wise yes he had a good game against a team that has the tallest player at what 6'2 when johnson is what 6'6? man what a challenge for him.  It doesnt seem like he should get pushed arpund then.  Johnson is no where close to an MVP.  i have seen PG way tougher than him.  But you my friend may be the stupid one since apparently flopping is becoming a decorated art in this conference nowdays.  It used to be a hardnose conference and the refs would let you play.  and yes i am sticking by what i said.  Zach Johnson should be slapped in the back of the head, his father should be ashamed that he has a daughter playing on the guys basketball team
