rosefelt & co. get a lopsided win at gus young tonite & prove that they're a force to be reckoned w/. on the other hand, the gusties looked pretty gun-shy. sowden stepped up & played aggressively b/4 things got outta hand but no one else followed his lead. all things considered tho, it's awfully early in the season to get too excited or disappointed by the game's result.

CAR gets a blow out win...they won by 20 and augsburg went on a 12-2 run against the CAR bench

Cobbs beat SMU 70-58.  The game was tied 29 apiece at the half.

I am going to get excited about this game, regardless of the fact that its relatively early in the conference season. UST thoroughly DOMINATED Gustavus in just about every facet of the game. Schnettler snapped his mini shooting slump, Rosefelt completely controlled the game on both ends of the floor and officially entered the pole position for MVP, and the Tommies showed up defensively and put the screws to a tough Gustie squad who represents their only real threat for a championship. If UST squeaked out a close one, it would be different, but they flat out abused GAC-on Gus Young, nonetheless. I think the unwarranted UST hating can now cease-this shows they are for real.

understandably so, megalo...the tommies proved that their legit as i said before. yet, it's not everyday that a tough Gustie squad shoots 30% in the first half. what goes around comes around.

Ahh the revenge of a blowout loss in the MIAC Championships a few years ago at Schoenecker is so sweet. UST thoroughly dominates Gustavus in virtually every facet of the game tonight in an 87-51 ass kicking in St. Peter. Willy Wonka's look of shock and disbelief at halftime, with the Gusties trailing 46-18, summed the night up in a nutshell. I don't think I've ever seen a Gustavus squad less motivated to be on the court than the team I saw tonight. Sowden was the only guy who even looked like he wanted to be out there. TeBrake was awful, and Olson was just slightly better. I'm officially on the Rosefelt for MVP bandwagon- he goes for 27 pts, 14 boards and nine blocks, shot 12-15 from the floor and dominated the game. Schnettler was on fire with 21 pts (5-8 from three land). Everyone played well and they caught the Gusties on a terrible night at Gus Young. The Tommies shot 65% from the field in the first half, quieting the crowd and never looked back. Gac was patient on offense early, like they always are, but I think they were too patient. They moved the ball around, but it seemed like nobody wanted to take the shot. UST defense was solid. It was probably as good as UST can play and perhaps as bad as Gustavus can play.

I also see that St. Olaf beats Macalester handily in Northfield this evening. Conboy goes just 6-20 from the floor, ick.

Touchdown Tommy

I believe the results of this evening CLEARLY proved that SJU has a much better team than Mac this season.

When the emotions have calmed down from both camps, I'd be interested in hearing about the personnel matchups in the Gusties/Tommie tilt.  Was it a case of exceptional defense by the Tommies, poor shooting by the Gusties, or a combination of both?

Offensively, you knew UST was capable of putting up the type of numbers they did tonight, but they had given no indication of being able to play defense with that type of intensity in any games yet, this season.

On the other hand, the Gusties have shot the ball very well so far, & with the exception of the game against the Cobbs, they've played their typical, solid Gustie defense.

Thoughts, comments?

Great win for SJU in Arden Hills tonight. That should prove that the Johnnies are better than in years past.

SUMMIT!!!!!

After making the trip to GAC, all I can say is WOW what a performance!

As was mentioned by several, "Dunken-felt" clearly established himself as the front runner for MVP. "Rosen-dunk" totally dominated both ends of the court. NINE blocks....hell, most guys get that many in a season, some in a career.

Yes, UST was paying nearly as good as they can, and GAC definitely was out of synch all night....although I think UST's defense contributed greatly to GAC's shooting woes. Keating & Shimek in particular did exceptional jobs on "D"

Despite tonight's outcome,. the rematch shuold be a great game.

Thanks to freebird for giving me the opportunity to make a fool of my 3-point bankshots!  Seriously, it was good to sit with you freebird-- I look forward to the hockey series!

SJU played well tonight, and things really went their way.  Bethel's defense seemed to struggle and it never really felt like the Royals got into their game until Cook was fouled intentionally-- and then only for about 2 minutes.  There's some talent with Bethel, but it really feels like it hasn't gelled at all.

Chase Lenz alley oop to Casey Jones with 2 seconds left was extremely cool.  Whoa.

Couple of last thoughts.....
Schnettler showed he is easily one of the top 5 guards in the league, while Sweeney continued his steady play and his knack for making threes at key moments.

Huge win for the Tommies, and with the women's win, you can bet the bus ride home was a sweet one!!!

PI, TH4L & WW--- good to see you guys tonight (What was your prediction, PI?   ;D  )

I agree 100% it kinda showed up the other two dunks tonight ( one by Henrichs and one by Cook).  Casey is very athletic and hopefully he hangs around for a couple mores years so we can see more of that !!!!!
