Man, this must be the lull before this week's regular season grand finale. You would think some "newbies" would pop out of the woodwork proclaiming this team or that team is going to kick butt this week.

So since this is a slow news day I'll create some news:  For those of you who are superstitious, or have a vested interest in Wednesday night's highlight game between Carleton & St. Olaf, let me toss out this obscure fact:

I've seen St. Olaf play four times this season & they've lost all 4 games.

11/07 @ Concordia St. Paul: 73-68
11/07 Buena Vista: 89-70
11/07 @ Hamline: 87-84
12/07 UST: 85-78

Mere coincidence?  Hmm, should I stay or should I go?  ;)

So here are the numbers..... First, if each player was in the top ten for a category, where did he place.

Second how many categories was he a top 10 contender, and finally, what was his average rank.

The winner by numbers is Brady Brink

A few games to go though.

If you find another player that would do well, feel free to provide their position.  I have nobody from Bethel on here.

Hunter gets on this "short-list" and Madson does not...absolutely hilarious!!!!

I am not saying Madson should be the MVP...I would actually vote for Linz, Johnson, Brink, and Wittwer over Madson.

Just shows you the IQ of some people on this board (that is not a slam at Snowman...more just frustration at BU's performance in the second half of the season >:()

It is great to be a Royal!

I believe Brady also makes it onto the FG% at 10th place which is a catagory you missed him for.  Therefore he is the all out winner!!!!

Assuming the tommies do not lose going into the last game of the year vs SJU do they need to play all that hard or could the tommies rest players if they wanted too??

I can't speak for Snow, but I'm guessing the reason he left both Madson & Solaja off the MVP short list is that they're still on the outside of a playoff finish looking in.  Edit: (left a sentence out) If the regular season ended today, the Oles would be in the playoffs.

In the past 10 years, the league has never given the MVP award to a player who's team finished lower than 4th - or out of the playoffs.   Either Augsburg or Bethel will need to win out & need help to finish that high in the standings.

Not a chance. A loss in the regular season combined with a loss in the MIAC playoffs would likely prevent them from getting a tourney bid. No one will be sitting or going less than 100%, especially in a rivalry game of that nature.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

it appears he just took the top player off the top 6 teams in the miac...as of now BU is not a top 6 team...with BU being the miac favorite coming into the year and the way they have performed Madson does not even deserve to be anywhere near the conversation

yep, WW hit that one on the head. UST/SJU is all-out war. Take no prisoners. There is immense satisfaction in pounding the other one, particularly on their own court.

How will SJU fans turn out? I'm hearing some of the usual fickle excuses I hear in down years at SJU ("my wife is washing her hair that night" being my favorite). SJU fans that would walk thru fire to attend an SJU/Mac football game cant bring themselves to watch the SJU/UST hoops game where there is at least a 50/50 chance Da Big Red Machine will get beat??

spot on, CMobb...I dedicate my next trrriple burger to your genius

It is a toss up between Wittwer, Linz and Brink.... these last 1-2 games will decide it.

SJU has a long and storied tradition of being frontrunners. This is well documented. Heck, look at the CSB poster who calls out lil Gags every year on the football boards after a loss.

If a 9-1 regular season and the top-ranked offense is enough to draw criticism in football, it should no surprise how poor the support for the hoops team has been since big Bigalke graduated back in 2000-01.

I overheard that SJU is on long break this weekend and may have minimal fans??  This could hurt home court advantage!

With no Ole webcast & no compelling local action, I might have to do this.  Or maybe set up a home version of command central & watch the Cobbs-Tommies webcast, while doing live stats from around the league. Hmm.

Sounds like the makings of a special night in Northfield...

Lifted from the MIAC League Notes:

St. Olaf – 25 Years of MIAC Women's Athletics - St. Olaf will honor Tammy Metcalf-Filzen, Cindy Book and Chris Daymont at halftime of Wednesday's men's basketball game with Carleton as a part of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's 25 Years of Women's Sports celebration. Additionally, the St. Olaf Viking Chorus will sing the National Anthem prior to the men's game and the St. Olaf dance team will perform at halftime to help St. Olaf try to break the modern Skoglund Center attendance record for a basketball game. The largest crowd, since the arena was renovated in 2000, was 1,934 for last season's men's game against Carleton.
