Now quit posting things that I find more interesting than this sweet flood story from 1969 I'm trying to rehash from old articles...

You shouldn't have tossed out the bait.  ;) I'd forgotten about the interview that Pioneer Press writer, Bob Sansevere had with Gopher guard Al Nolen.

Here's an excerpt -

The only hobby I really have is I like to play video games. My favorite video game is Madden. I recommend PlayStation. I have PlayStation 3. I'm serious about it. I've got the online. I've got the headset. I've got it all. I don't want to sound cocky, but I'm probably one of the best in Minnesota in the Madden game. I've played online a lot. I've beaten a lot of people online. I have a really good record online. At one point, my record was like 40-3. That's when I was going at it and playing a lot. It's probably a little worse than that now. I've been busy with a lot of other stuff. I haven't been able to sharpen my skills.

Sounds like fighting words to me Willy.  ;D

Here's the complete interview

So Drake when do you want to leave...The Bear Truck is gassed and ready to go

Thanks but no thanks, too cold for the kid.  When you say "Bear Truck" this is the image that comes to mind
   ;)

By the way, how much sleep do you get at night?  I see you were on here posting at the ungodly hour of 4:48 in the AM??  On a bad night, that's when Wonka goes to bed.  ;D

Drake the Bear Truck is a superbly built Yukon...decked out with the Bear logo see www.660wbhr.com and SJU on one side ESPN on the other...

As for sleep...I start work at 5am usually get 6-7 hours a night...less when we get back from weeknight road trips...

My award-winning story (for worst thing ever written, after all of MM's pieces  :-* ) is done and now I get to move on to...laundry!

I haven't been able to play Madden since I moved, but I was something like 27-6 — after a horrible 1-4 start as I adjusted to the online lag time. Helpful hint: Don't play anyone who uses the Pats. They are crazy good, no matter who's at the controls.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

the fans will be very scarce ( did i spell that right?) for the SJU tommie game due to long weekend!!

I would say that TSN (The Sporting News) is the best. It's got the best coverage and most in-depth information, without being too sappy or heart-wrenching. I want sports when I read those magazines, not too many stories that tug at my heartstrings. If I want that, I'll use Reader's Digest.

Plus, I'm still a little pissed at SI for the way they manhandled Kirby Puckett back when that whole story broke. Call me a biased Twins fan just trying to stick up for his boyhood hero (well, second favorite, after Kent Hrbek)

And ESPN, just a lot of noise and not much info, kind of like how Sportcenter is getting.
(Reporter interviewing Charles Barkley after and altercation where he threw a fan out of a bar window)

Reporter: Charles, is there anything about the incident you regret?

Sir Charles: Yeah, that we weren't on a higher floor.

Cobbs led early over UST, but Linz went to the bench with 4:50 left in the first half after a turnover and committing a (frustration?) foul. It was his THIRD foul.

UST now up 25-23 late in the first.

How will SJU fans turn out? I'm hearing some of the usual fickle excuses I hear in down years at SJU ("my wife is washing her hair that night" being my favorite). SJU fans that would walk thru fire to attend an SJU/Mac football game cant bring themselves to watch the SJU/UST hoops game where there is at least a 50/50 chance Da Big Red Machine will get beat??

SJU has a long and storied tradition of being frontrunners. This is well documented. Heck, look at the CSB poster who calls out lil Gags every year on the football boards after a loss.

If a 9-1 regular season and the top-ranked offense is enough to draw criticism in football, it should no surprise how poor the support for the hoops team has been since big Bigalke graduated back in 2000-01.

Wonka...although I don't totally agree with the term front-runners the lack of support for the program the last two years has been disgusting...I don't think most people realize that last years team went to the NCAA tournament for cryin out loud...the attendance for the playoff game vs Loras was bad, but the weather was awful that night and of course no freebies for the students into an NCAA game, but still a 20 win team should have gotten better support...it will be interesting to see how many show up on Senior Night against the Tommies, I would hope enough to fill up the sides, but maybe not enough to pull out the end zones...

VOJ- I don't think you can look at the Loras game to guage the attendance. There was a white-out snowstorm that day and even Loras had trouble getting to the game!! Granted the attendance was VERY poor but when you have to risk your personal safety to attend a basketball game.... not such a bright idea.

However, the Loras game aside the J's home attendance has been very low the past couple years. I am not sure what the deal is with the students. They came to some games they don't come for the next. It's a weird deal. Only for the UST-SJU game has the gym been anywhere near full. I think one factor may be that the success of the football team leads to less fan support for any other program at SJU that may be having a sub-par year.

Closed circuit to VOJ, it looks like the Gusties avoided the tailspin tonight with the 29-point victory over the Pipers.

Pipes head coach gets tossed with about 5 minutes left in the second half on a double tech. The Gustie radio announcer said he was arguing an accidental elbow that a gustie player delivered to Tanner Anderson.

Gusties played their JV in the final 2 minutes and Hamline left their starters in and the Gustie JV outscored them about 10-2.

Gacbacker...obviously the Pipes made a better stand against SJU then on the road in St. Peter...I had a feeling that Coach H would get them going in the right direction...

Playoffs will be fun

True watchmen...but the students could have made the trek...not far for them, but they pretty much stayed away too...

I would suspect the crowd to be actually smaller than SJU's season average this Saturday vs. St. Thomas. It is Long Weekend, meaning, the students have this Thursday and Friday off. Some may come back early for the game, but not many.

VOJ- I agree its pretty bad when the SJU students don't even show up for the games. Nearly 1000 of them live on campus you would think a couple hundred could walk two minutes to see the game!!!

So you're saying spending roughly 7 hours on the road that day going to the women's title game and then coming back down in the snowy dark for the men's title game wasn't a good decision? Who knew :)

Looks like the Tommies laid an egg on the road in a 67-57 loss to the Cobbs to further muddy the playoff picture. UST finally got some refs who called their shinanigans, getting whistled for 30 fouls and giving CC around 40 FTs.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Check that.

Cobbers finish 33-43 from the line, compared to just 5-6 for UST. The Cobbers' last FG made came with 11:19 to play, if the stat tracker can be believed.

Poor Teddy Archer  ;D
