I think Shana might be on to something....  Larson's contract is up at the end of this year, don't know if Hamline re-signed him yet or not.

I have no comment on shanagolden's prediction ;)

prophet - I was able to take in two Bemidji State games this past year.  I also have friends who live in the Bemidji area and they keep me posted on things.  I'm always curious to see how those young freshmen are developing.  I enjoyed watching Mr. Fairbanks and some of the others throughout high school.

mtman - I've heard Nigel Jenkins, Coach Trewick's assistant, will go after the head position.  I would expect to see a lot of interest as I think with the right person in place it's a good job.

Shanagolden, +k Nice work. Looks like you are the winner. Local, when is the announcement suppose to come. Haven't seen anything on the CORD website of in the Fool-Em?

Localcoach - thanks for the info -- how is the school perceived?  could the mbb program challenge miac's best if right person hired?  what do you think? thx

My guess for the new concordia assistant will be Brady Larson current assistant at Hamline, he has ties to Glas from UND

Good call Golden.  Knowing LC's familiarity with the Pipes program,  ;) it all makes sense that Hamline assistant coach & former UND player, Brady Larson might be the next assistant coach at Concordia.  Say what you will about Rich Glas, at least with some of his former players he seems to have developed some loyalty.  Glas was hired by Ben Jacobson, head coach at Northern Iowa.  Jacobsen played for Glas and was a former assistant coach at UND.  Now if this latest rumor is true, Glas is paying this loyalty forward by hiring another one of his former players and coaches in Brady Larson.

While the loyalty is certainly admirable, I still don't know if Larson is necessarily the right fit.  Obviously with his background Larson knows basketball, but I don't know if he's the dynamic recruiting dynamo that Glas will need to move the Cobber program into "D3 national prominence." The few snippets I've heard from Snelling & Hewitt have indicated that the Hamline coaching staff knows basketball inside & out, but sometimes there seems to be a disconnect between the technical side of basketball, and the coaching, teaching & motivating side of basketball.  I would think the latter characteristics would be nice ones to have in order to be an effective recruiter.

The Cobbs and those people who have some connection to the Cobbs (CON, Willy), have been unusually quiet about this Glas hire.  Has there been a gag order issued?  ;)

Snow – in the paper they listed 660 am as carrying the Class AAAA games and the following link is supposed to be carrying the games over the net: MSBN

I don't know what to think of it. It's strange to have your connection to the program severed.  How do I relate back to that team beyond the name on their chest?

I'm also still worried that this guy will be  there and gone again.  I haven't heard anything from anyone.  I hope they get an assistant who really drives that program.

I also hope very good things for Coaches Whartnaby and Odegaard.  They have distinct but very valuable gifts.  In the right program Whartnaby's encyclopedic faculty with certain offensive schemes is a great tool.  Odegaard is a spitfire and a very capable recruiter.  Look at the growing size and quality of those classes up north! They are excellent pieces to their respective puzzles.

Snow, in addition to the link DP posted you can get live stats at the High School League website.

A Northern Iowa rep told me today that Larson was all but assured to land the assistant's job. He also thought I was crazy to think Glas won't be successful up there. Apparently the CC community (excluding those I know) is buzzing with excitement over the hire.

I remain very skeptical.

I haven't heard any rumors of the sort, but I'd be curious to hear the interest level of GAC's Drinkall in the SMU position. That's the area he grew up in and I've got to imagine he's got some pretty solid connections after working with the WSU staff for the past few years. Personally, I hope Nigel gets it.

I've said it before but I'll say it again...the new seeding process is whack in the state tournament. If Mayo's D1 studs hit a couple open perimeter shots, they beat Sibley and its extremely overrated Sconny recruit. Tech looked extremely sloppy and should get beat by 30+ against Tonka, if Tucker decides to actually try the whole game instead of just the first 10 minutes. Cooper won by only 2 in the game I didn't see.

A re-seed after today's game would likely see Mayo and Kennedy make a strong push for the #3 and #4 seeds; Tech would clearly lose its spot in the top 4, though I can't comment on Cooper. Then again, if the Strib is gonna pimp all the metro teams/players in its state preview I suppose we'll just have to accept the anti-outstate sentiment for the foreseeable future...

Also, enjoy this good laugh.

I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I think Maple River and New London-Spicer play in the 2A semifinals. Game of the day. Willmar is also a solid squad that those watching 3A should watch.

WW...I can't believe Brusewitz is going to Sconnie either. He was out here at Litch last year...good player, but not D1. Product of the program at Sibley.

After seeing 6 games today from the media table at the Target Center, a few thoughts:

- Kennedy's PG has the potential to be a stud at St. Olaf. Christensen isn't a lock to start next year with this kid coming in.

- Cooper/Burnsville was the "who doesn't want to win" contest. The Hawks missed nine straight free throws in the closing minutes, while the Blaze didn't help themselves with equally as bad shooting from the line. Burnsville's stud guard went 3-of-17 at the stripe... ouch! Cooper wins a close won, and their 6-5 foward (Williams Jr) is a sick athlete. The two teams shoot a combined 19-of-55 at the line. When did free throws become so tough?

- Do not get yourself into a track meet against Patrick Henry, you're not going to be quicker than them. St. Michael-Albertville loses 72-60 to them despite leading by 5 in several stretches. Rothstein will be a nice player for the Huskies, he had 25 or so in the loss.

- Mayo/Sibley was by far the best atmosphere of the day and one of the better games of the day. My eardrums went numb by the time that won was over. WW was right, if they can hit a few shots, Mayo is in the semis. It's an absolute joke that they weren't seeded. Sibley hit enough 3's to win.

- Tech will get destroyed by Minnetonka tomorrow. The Skippers look like men playing against boys.

- Jordan Taylor dropped 43 on Como Park. He's the best player in the state, and it's not even close or worth a debate.

- Can high school basketball PLEASE get a shot clock in use 24/7? I'm sick and tired of teams holding the ball with 3 minutes to play.

Based on my work schedule, yesterday was the best day for me to check out the state tourney.  So I took in the Sibley-Mayo game along with the Burnsville-Cooper matchup.  I've now seen Sibley play 3 times this season – vs. Tonka, Cretin & now Mayo.  I should also add I've seen Mayo play twice – vs. Tartan & Sibley.  Mike Bruesewitz of Sibley will be a decent college player, but I think Bo Ryan is projecting him as more of a Joe Krabbenhoft type player – tall, athletic type player, not really a post & not really a guard.  (Now, Jared Bergrren (sp), the other Wisconsin recruit who is a post player out of Princeton, he's a kid that can make you say - "wow.")  In the 3 games I've seen Bruesewitz play, he's struggled when he's had a larger, athletic player defending him.  However, keep in mind, he's only a junior.  He should have a decent showing against Cooper's smaller lineup.

Mayo's Kuipers & Hicks definitely kept their team in this game.  In the game I saw earlier in the season against Tartan, they were hampered with foul trouble throughout much of the game.  Aside from some silly traveling TOs by Kuipers, he was solid & did a good job defending Sibley's Bruesewitz.  Jordan Hicks is a very smooth looking player.

Team depth & guard play won the day for Sibley. There might be a Sibley – UST connection developing with several Sibley graduates now attending UST: basketball - Anders Halvorsen & baseball - Dan Leslie.  PG Peter Leslie and W/F Noah Kaiser could be other Sibley grads to take the short drive up 35E to St. Thomas.

I'm glad I decided to make a doubleheader out of the day and saw both AAAA games in the afternoon.  I would have been disappointed if I only came for the Burnsville- Cooper game as I'd originally planned. The 2nd half of the Bsvlle-Cooper was a rough one.  I'm still having a tough time figuring out how Cooper beat Osseo, and Burnsville beat the best of section 6 in their respective sectional finals.  That was an ugly, ugly game yesterday.  Burnsville was basically up the entire game and then a couple of timely (lucky) threes by Cooper gave them the lead in the last 4 minutes of the game.  Cooper managed to hang on despite terrible FT shooting on their part & worse than terrible FT shooting on the part of Burnsville.   If Cooper's Rodney Williams developed a consistent J and handles, he could be a big time D1 recruit.

Amen to that.  I have been wanting to see that over here in Wisconsin for years.  A few years ago I watched a state tourney game in which one team held the ball for the entire 8 minute quarter.  They had the lead and wanted to force the other team out of their zone defense.  Even the announcers said that basketball is not meant to be played like this.  The crowd was booing for the majority of the 8 minute stall.

Rodney Williams already is a big time D1 recruit as he has received interest or offers from Bradley, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Minnesota, Purdue, Wisconsin, Miami (Fl), Ohio State

i think Mayo was the only outstate team in this years tourney that even looked tourney worthy...about 4 or 5 great basketball minds who i talked to at the game said the st. cloud game was very JV like

i think the 2-6 teams in this years tourney are all pretty much on the same level...even if Mayo was a top 4 seed they would have matched up with a tough team...their only problem was they were blown out by Tartan during the regular season
