McGuire won at Marquette, why couldn't Crean?

The IU job is too good to pass up though, although Crean did turn down Illinois when Self left for Kansas.

(yeah, new poster here. just heard about this board)

Interesting spelling of your first name Cholcolate, is that by design?  ??? ;) At any rate - welcome aboard.

LOL....not by design & trying to figure out how to correct it.

DP,

I don't know what Crean was making at Marquette, but his deal at Indiana was 7 or 8 years for 2 million per year... Money talks. Indiana needs a younger, energetic coach who is passionate about the game, and that's exactly what Crean is. Say what you want about Bob Knight, but the biggest mistake the Hoosiers ever made was getting rid of him.

I agree. Knight (whoops, he doesn't like that!)...Coach Knight was and is good for college hoops!

Interesting career moves...

*I noticed in the paper today that Travis Feezell, the AD at Macalester is stepping down after a 3-year run to become an associate professor of sports management at Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina.  I'm guessing he'll be missed at Mac, he did good things in the short time he was the AD.

*Why in the world would Tom Crean leave Marquette for Indiana?  I've got my opinions, but this seems like a lateral move to me.

*Oles hire former Wisconsin Steven Point assistant football coach, Jerry Olszewski, as new football coach.

I say "hmm" to all of these moves.

I can't fault Feezell for getting out at MAC...I think they are making strides but need to continue to do so...the fact they are not in the MIAC in football is ridiculous...but they continue to schedule MIAC teams and have one of their opening games if not their opener against St. Thomas...why?  If you are out, you are out.

If Crean would have stayed at Marquette he would have always been second banana to Bo Ryan...even though they went to the Final 4...Wisconsin is a Big Ten state...and they are a midwest team in the Big East, he had done all he could at MU

The thing that surprised me about the Oles hire is their new coach was not in coaching, but I am sure he will be able to get back in the groove...I know the cupboard is not bare in Northfield.

Another recruit for the J's

Wow, combine what they have recruited so far with last years class, begs the question....Will there be enough basketballs to go around in C-ville next winter?

Good link VOJ, I'll update the list.  With all of the 6-4 to 6-6 players that the Johnnies have either returning or coming in as FY, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mr. Powers from NLS decide to concentrate on one sport.  It looks like the MIAC arms race has heated up for those lanky, athletic wing/forward types. First the Gusties, then the Cobbs & now the Johnnies.

I'd expect we'll hear more about more college decisions after this weekend's All-star games and I believe the D1 & D2 spring signing date begins on April 16th - I think. Unofficial enrollment decisions begin a few weeks later on or around May 1 for D3 players who as we know, do not sign National Letters of Intent.(The last part was for the "newbies" or the seasoned, legalistic types who look to bust peoples' chops -  Mr. Ypsi  ;) )

Cricket, cricket....

Anyone stop up at St. Cloud this weekend for some all-star hoops?

abominable_snowman

quick questions in the spirit of tonight's championship game, and to revive the discussion we were having earlier about draft and ncaaa prospects:

what is the likelihood of the T-wolves landing Rose in the draft? is he the person they should go after?

this weekend was an interesting one...not only did i lock myself out of my house for 2 days but i also was Famous Daves Fan of the game at the Twins game on saturday...i think they liked the rollerskates

i would love it if the wolves could land rose...but it wont happen because we are cursed

Congratulations CMOB, post 1000! +k.  I'm expecting that on post 1033 or whatever random number you selected  ;D there will be gyros, tsatsiki sauce, tripple burgers with extra cheese & grease, beers and of course the Cmob version of Matt Leinart's hot tub party with boombahlaties galore!

Heard some rumblings at the All-Star game in St. Cloud Friday night that Colin Utke will be heading to River Falls next year.

Any word on Hamline assistant position, Saint Mary's, or ND School of Science?
