The rich apparently get richer....I spent part of my day at the Magic Invitational Tournament in Bloomington today and was told that St. Thomas is also getting a commitment from 6-7 Como Park senior Greg Morse.  Morse will play both hoops and the pigskin for the Tommies.

The question now becomes will either Morse or Leslie be able to crack the rotation, both have great reputations...

I'm glad to see Peter Leslie must have recovered from the ill-effects of the concussion he sustained in the state championship game, & gave up the notion of trying to walk on at a D-I school.  ;)

I think it's going to be difficult for either Peter Leslie or Greg Morse to crack the Tommies top 8 or 9-man rotation next year.  The Tommies return their top 8 players.  They also had some talented players on the bench who with another year of off-seasoning development could really push the top players.

Greg Morse could possibly give Sam Eicher a run for the money & match up funky, hook shots.  Morse is a very talented player but at various times tends to disappear into the background.  At 6-1, Leslie is bigger than both Tyler Nicolai and Brett Tuma at the PG, but I don't know if that will be enough for him to steal any minutes from either one of those players next season.  However, I wouldn't be surprised in a year if the Tommies went "small ball" & played 5-10 Nicolai, 6-1 Leslie, played 6-4 Joe Scott at a "3" & then a couple of biggs.

Peterson could barely play half a game in high school, how's he gonna make it in college?

Engen says "he's real coordinated and good around the basket?" Who's he kidding?

Speaking of recruiting, who's Augsburg and Hamline bringing in?

Finally, a story in the Fool-Em this morning on the Brady Larson hire at CORD.

Another minor recruiting tidbit - Cameron Rundles, former DeLaSalle star, has officially decided to transfer to Wofford.  There had been speculation that he might end up at UST.

Chip (Chocolate Hoops) - I like your style, I hope you stick around next season.  I'd tend to agree with your assessment about young Peterson.  ;)

The only player I've heard mentioned that might be attending Augsburg next fall is 6-5 Corey Polta from Spring Lake Park.

Interestingly, I was at a handful of "big-time" HS games leading up to & through the state tournament, & I never saw any coaches from the Hamline staff.  Most of the MIAC schools were well represented at State,  but perhaps Coach Whitmore was hot on the trail of an ace PG from NY.  (Notice I didn't say NYC Greg Sager) It will be interesting to see who Whitmore hires as an assistant coach.

Sum - have you heard any further word about the other Cobb assistant coaches, Whartnaby & Odegaard?

How are them greens doing up nort? Sooner or later, spring will come to the north country.

I saw the hamline head coach at Tonka games. I think he was looking at Andy Burns.

DP, Other than Whartnaby applying for and not getting the Science job, no. I have seen him at a couple of golf meets this spring but always from afar. I did not get a chance to visit with him.

Spring?? What's that? Boys golf team was suppose to have their big two day invite starting today >:( Maybe next weekend?

Good news is it looks like the ice may be off the local lakes for the fishing opener. Start getting North of here and that might be in doubt though.

Besides HU, SJU was working hard on Burns this past hoops season. Heard they're trying to get the kid from Benilde (Neville?) to join Burns as those two are pretty good friends.

Anyone heard any recruiting updates on the Neville kid?

Someone said Burns was playing for the Pulley team this spring.....how can he do that? Is he young for his age? Is he thinking he can get a DI or II offer somewhere? If so, he's fooling himself. He's a DIII player

A question for MIACers,

As a fan of Southwest MN St, I'm curious about Jon DeRock.. What are his strengths/weaknesses? Will he adapt to D-II?

As of right now, I think hes our starting 2-guard so I wanted to know what type of player we have.

klomp44,
i will take first bite on this, as no one else has stepped forward.  :)
i was disappointed when derock left hamline after his soph season.   he was one of the players in the league that was truly fun to watch.
he was quick, could create his own shot, shot a decent percentage (on twos), was a good free throw shooter, and was able to stretch the opponent's defense.
he was an average defender and was a bit turnover-prone at times, but my guess is that he will do very well at ssu and in the nsic, particularly if he has added a bit of muscle to his frame of a year ago and  doesn't have to play 30+ minutes for the mustangs.
i think he was all conf honorable mention as a soph and made the all rookie miac team as a freshman.
how will ssu be?   who else (aside from winona state) should be good in the newly revamped nsic?   ???

MiacLostProphet

I think Derock will do well at SSU.  He has another year of basketball experience under his belt.  He has all the skills, just needs a coach to keep him working hard.
