Chocolate Hoops

Heard Whitmore brought in a coach from NY.  (can't confirm this for sure, but that's the strong rumor)

Haven't heard much from the Midway lately. I'll be there Friday for state track, so maybe I'll hear something.

From the Trib:
Kyle Foster and Tony Pierce each pitched a scoreless inning of relief (for the St. Paul Saints). Pierce earned his fifth save of the season. Foster has not given up a run in 17 innings this season.

WW,

My boss wanted me to dig into all that business and get a story out of it. As you can imagine, both schools kept their mouth shut about the whole thing. I thought there might have been something fishy going on when Carleton jumps out to a 21-7 lead, only to lose 85-28 and get blanked 56-rip in the second half. The Knights had 6 turnovers, but seriously, 85 points?!

The final count I heard was that around a dozen Olaf football players were banned from Carleton's campus, including a couple starters. If I remember correctly though, they could be on the sidelines for the game, they just couldn't dress. It was a mess. There's also a league rule that states visiting teams can only dress so many players, and Carleton/Olaf usually agree to do away with that and let everyone dress since the two schools are so close. This year, that didn't happen.

Can't we all just get along?

Two summer leagues started this week-Sunday evenings at Bloomington Kennedy and Monday and Wednesday nights at 43 hoops in Hopkins

I can confirm chocolate hoops story about the new Hamline assistant coach.  I ran into some Piper alumnus' over the weekend on the golf course and apparently Coach Whitmore has hired one of his former players from out East to replace Brady Larson.  HU's other assistant, Jamison Rusthoven, will also remain on staff.  That same person added that it sounds like the Pipers are going to start recruiting outside of Minnesota a lot more.

A couple other tidbits - I can't remember if this has been posted yet, but Kellen Dahlquist, a guard from Foley H.S., has committed to Bethel.  He's a nice athlete from a quality high school program.  And on the rumor front, Andy Burns, the point guard from Minnetonka H.S. remains a strong St. John's lean, or so I've heard.

I wonder if PiperOutsider can tell us about this Foley Falcon headed to County Road F and Snelling? Can't say I've heard much about the Dahlquist kid.

sumander

Can't say I have ever thought of Foley as a quality high school bb program either, wrestling maybe?

Oh wait, wasn't Norm Grow from Foley? ;)

Several MIAC teams are playing summer league ball. One set of games is played Sunday evenings at Bloomington Kennedy. Chris Carr also has summer college games at his facility on Sunday evenings.

These are nice places to see some of the newer players in action.

what position is grey from montevideo?

grey is a two guard; saw him play in the first round of the state tournament this year in a loss to maple river.  nice player; streaky shooter.   could help the gusties in a couple of years.  he will need to develop the ability to create his own shot, though that is not always a big concern in st. peter.   ;)  grey  played with a really nice point guard--trammel barnes--who is  headed to northern state in aberdeen.

A couple of new tidbits for the board....nothing of great substance.

Chris Hopkins is the name of the new Hamline Assistant Coach.  As I said he played for Coach Whitmore at SUNY-Brockport.  I don't know much else about him.

St. John's has officially renamed their floor after Coach Smith.  Check out the Johnnies website for the press release and the pictures.  I like the new look but it's a little "busy."  It did however get me wondering.  How many other MIAC schools are completely redoing their paint jobs because of the new 3-point line?  Does anyone know of any others (not named MAC) ???

sumander - Foley coach Chris Lewis has done a nice job with that program over the past couple of years since his arrival.  They consistently win 15+ games each year and Coach Lewis is a good young teacher of the game.

Willy Wonka

Drake - Humor wasn't really the point of my second piece of info. It was more along the lines of "What is this guy thinking?" Did he really expect to land the job after saying something like that? Even if he knew he was out of the running by then, that seems like a burn-some-bridges type talk.

TH4L - I was told Hutchins watched the game from outside the fence at Carleton's field with his hood up. I'm sure that was very inconspicuous ::)

And how is it I have better connections at the schools you cover? :P

State golf here I come...hopefully I don't get blown away.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.
